Troy Polamalu: Talk of Mike Tomlin not returning to Steelers is ‘crazy’; vows team ‘will be back on top soon’
Troy Polamalu not only thinks Mike Tomlin should stay in Pittsburgh; the Hall of Fame safety feels his former team is on the precipice of returning to its championship form. The two-time Super Bowl champion dismissed rumors that this might be Tomlin’s final run with the Steelers. Tomlin, who reportedly may take a break from coaching after this season, was under heavy criticism from Steelers fans before he engineered a three-game winning streak that ultimately resulted in a playoff berth. “They’re probably the same fans that were saying get rid of Ben too, and me,” Polamalu said with a laugh on “The Jim Rome Show”. “Honestly, I think Coach Tomlin is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. I think he’s a Hall of Fame coach. Absolutely, I think the talk is crazy for people to consider or think that he wouldn’t be our coach next year. I think it would be terrible for him not to be.” Polamalu has first-hand knowledge of Tomlin’s coaching prowess. Under Tomlin, Polamalu was named the 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He once credited Tomlin’s mid-week coaching for the defense’s rallying around James Harrison during Harrison’s famous 100-yard pick-six that helped the Steelers win Super Bowl XLIII. “First of all, I think that he’s able to connect with the younger players unlike any coach that I’ve seen,” Polamalu said of Tomlin. “He’s an amazing coach from a tactical perspective. I’ve been in meetings with him and learned so much from him, even though I had a Hall of Fame coach as well in Coach LeBeau.” Tomlin, 51, has never had a losing season in his 17 seasons as Pittsburgh’s coach. But that achievement loses some of its luster when you consider that the Steelers have not won a playoff game in seven years, an eternity for the NFL’s most successful franchise since the 1970 merger. Polamalu, though, feels the Steelers are close to returning to the franchise’s glory years of the 1970s and 2000s. “We have a new general manager in Omar Khan. I think he is going to make some new and exciting moves going forward,” Polamalu said. “I think that partnership (between Khan and Tomlin) is starting to and is going to continue to evolve. I think there’s a shakeup in the scouting department in terms of how we continue to build the culture in Pittsburgh internally, rather than how we’ve kind of done it recently with high-priced moves and really not sustaining the culture that really built all these championships that we do have. “To me, with a little more patience, the Steelers will be back on top, soon enough.” Polamalu may be onto something. While there was some turmoil, this Steelers team did, in Tomlin’s words, smile in the face of adversity when it was 7-7 and on the verge of a collapse. The Steelers responded with three straight wins and will look to keep their season going with a win in Buffalo in Sunday’s Super Wild Card Weekend showdown. As far as Sunday’s game is concerned, Polamalu feels it is the perfect opportunity to show the outside world that the Steelers’ culture is alive and well. “Obviously, we don’t have T.J. Watt,” Polamalu said. “We’ve been having our injury problems. But to me, our program’s always been bigger than names. For us to be able to go into a place like Buffalo and win would say a lot about how how we’re building our culture internally. I’m excited to watch this game. I do think that we’re going to give it a good run and come out with a big victory.”
A-list star issues grovelling apology after ‘tasteless’ Princess Kate joke
A-list actress Blake Lively has issued a grovelling apology over a “tasteless” joke about Catherine, Princess of Wales just days before the royal mum announced that she’d been diagnosed with cancer. On Friday local time, Kate, 42, revealed that doctors discovered that the cancer shortly after she underwent abdominal surgery in January. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she said. Stream the world’s best reality, entertainment and true-crime shows free on 7plus “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” In recent weeks, Kate has been the subject of persistent speculation due to her absence from royal duties. The controversy only deepened when Buckingham Palace released an image of the royal mum with children George, Charlotte and Louis for Mother’s Day that was revealed to be photoshopped. It prompted Lively — who has four children with actor husband Ryan Reynolds — to post her own image poking fun at Kate on Instagram. She wrote: “I’m so excited to share this new photo I just took today to announce our 4 new @bettybuzz & @bettybooze products! Now you know why I’ve been MIA.” The photograph shared with the post — which has since been removed — had obvious photoshop fails, showing Blake with an abnormally large thumb, a faulty chair and a random disproportionate lemon falling from the sky. In the wake of Kate’s cancer announcement, Lively issued an apology on Instagram. “I’m sure no one cares today but I feel I have to acknowledge this,” she wrote. “I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy and, oh, man, that post has me mortified today.” Lively has been the subject of intense criticism over her jibe since Kate’s announcement went public. “I wonder if @Blakelively is still going after Catherine, Princess of Wales after hearing what she – a devoted mother of three children – has been battling. You were only one of the ONLY of this generation of actors I was rooting for. Mean girls always show their colours. You are wrong,” one social media user said. Another added: “Now the news is out she is undergoing chemotherapy, a mother of three little ones having to share that news with them. You should be ashamed,” one Instagram user wrote. “You have now bullied someone suffering from cancer,” a third wrote. One more added: “Tasteless. So, so tasteless.” Stream free on
Sometimes You Just Have to Laugh at the Mess We All Can Be
Life is often a mess, and some days, you just have to laugh at it all. For those who rescue and care for cats and other animals, a healthy dose of humor is a must. With so many ups and downs, it’s an emotional roller coaster. To make it all work, we recommend being silly and taking a light-hearted approach whenever pawsible! Laughing at the Mess We Can All Be Here’s a video that might catch you off guard. You might recognize the subject; it’s Wisp, a Tampa, Florida, rescued Persian kitten. Wisp has become an internet sensation precisely because she’s a hot mess. She has been described as a ‘sentient crinkled napkin,’ who is ‘always in the middle of an existential crisis.’ But that’s why everyone adores her even more. And she’s living the happiest life thanks to her mom and supporters. Wisp has never been shy about loudly letting Mom know when she wants something. But be warned: the vocals in the video below are a little shockingly funny! “There should be a warning sign on [this]. I literally almost suffocated from laughing!” said one viewer on Instagram. “ Introducing Wisp’s vocals.” “ Introducing Wisp’s vocals.”
Video via Instagram/catsarecursed and rags_to_riches_animalrescue Wisp Always Looks a Hot Mess The iconic legend that is Wisp began when Tampa-based rescuer took in a group of Persian cats mysteriously dumped in her neighborhood. Although she at first thought one of the adult cats was a boy, she got a surprise at home when ‘Gerald’ gave birth to one solitary white kitten, Wisp, at home. Unfortunately, the mama cat neglected the kitten, so she had to bottle-feed her at all hours. At first, vets thought Wisp was a boy, but then they determined she was a girl. In many respects, Wisp was born different, with a disability that sometimes makes it hard to poop. (She’s had multiple procedures at the vet to help her.) No matter how many baths she gets, she always has messy-looking fur, which some have compared to ‘a used Q-tip.’ But to thousands of fans online, Wisp is delightfully odd. Of course, this kitty doesn’t know she’s any different and enjoys life each day in her own way. “Gerald ended up being a Gertrude, and she gave me the most magical creature I’ve ever laid eyes on.” A Stinky Scrungly Cat Wisp is so unusual that people have come up with unique words to describe her appearance, like ‘scrungly,’ among countless other new adjectives. Whatever words they choose, the rescuer loves hearing the funny descriptions and laughs along with them. “I had to ask somebody what that was,” she said of the word, ‘scrungly.’ “But anyways, I could not agree more. She is a crusty, dusty kitten; she usually looks like she’s been through it, sometimes looks like a mad scientist.” Everything that makes Wisp a mess just makes her all the more endearing. People can’t get enough of the crusty character, and she’s done wonders in raising awareness and support for her mom’s Rags to Riches Animal Rescue Inc. You can see much more on TikTok. Wisp is even the subject of a kid’s book entitled, “I Love You Even If You’re Stinky.” You go, Wisp! You might be a bit of a mess, but aren’t we all sometimes? Video by CUDDLY:
