Against all odds, The Super Mario RPG remake retains the original’s dirtiest joke

Mario has been teaching kids important life lessons for generations. Think about how Mario showed you that persistence is key, munching mushrooms is good for you, and stealing is a-ok. Well, that spirit will live on in the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake, it turns out, in the revival of one of the dirtiest jokes in the game’s history.

One of the most important lessons the original Super Mario RPG taught us was not to go through a lady’s belongings. As the game makes clear with one of the perceived dirtiest jokes known to Nintendo fans worldwide, you never know what you might find.

The game touches on the subject with a hidden item in Princess Peach’s room labeled “Toadstool’s ???” or “Peach’s XXX” depending on the translation. From the reactions elicited from spotting the thing – either a scold from Peach’s grandma, or Peach herself later down the line –  it’s clear there’s something untoward going on in the minds of those game developers.

If you thought, like us, that there’s no way the Super Mario RPG remake is keeping the original’s most infamous joke, think again. Turns out the new game stays true to the original to such a degree that it even keeps the silly filthy joke in. 

I mean if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

In their Super Mario RPG hands-on, our Dustin Bailey notes that “Against every expectation I had, the game even retains the infamous little Easter egg where you can make Mario rifle through Peach’s bedroom in order to find some sort of unmentionable item.”

There have been a few other theories around what the item could be, as one r/GameTheorists Reddit post from a while back goes over. User ProfessorMetallica considers that the item in question could actually be a bottle of booze, since “Alcohol is occasionally labeled as ‘XXX’, especially in cartoons”. Alternatively, it could be “a gift from her absent parents, and it’s labeled ‘???’ because Mario didn’t get enough time to look at it before it was snatched away.”

General consensus, however, is that it’s either a sex toy or some kind of pornographic imagery. As for the question of whether the true nature of the item will be revealed in the  upcoming game… well, you’ll just have to play it to find out.

“Super Mario RPG is deeply weird even by the standards of Mario role-playing games, and the remake loses none of those bizarre vibes”, says Bailey in their overview. I’m excited to relive the strangeness come November 17 when the new Super Mario RPG will hit shelves.

With Sam Sulek’s popularity climbing, podcast host Joe Rogan recently took a look at the budding bodybuilding influencer. In a clip taken from his Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Rogan discussed Sulek’s body transformation, fame, and steroid use.  Despite his introverted nature, Sam Sulek ‘s witty personality shines any time he’s recording gym-related videos. Boasting record-shattering numbers on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, Sulek’s rise although surprising to some, has paved the way for other content creators aiming to make a name in the fitness and bodybuilding niches.  At 21 years old, Sulek has built an incredible physique, though some have suggested that he’s setting a bad example for younger and more impressionable audiences due to his steroid use. The latest to give his take on Sulek’s newfound fame was one of the world’s best interviewers, Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan Discusses Bodybuilder Sam Sulek: ‘He Used to Be a Lot Smaller, & Then Got Saucy!’ Rogan clarified that Sulek used to be smaller and transformed his physique over a five-year period (2019-2023). “Sam Sulek. Oh Jesus. Jesus Christ. Oh, I have heard about him because he used to be a lot smaller and then got saucy!” says Joe Rogan. “He used to be a diver, you know into a pool type thing,” says Cameron Hanes. “So he was 183 pounds in [2019]. And now what does he weigh now? 237 in 2023, that’s crazy. That’s so crazy. That’s so much weight!” laughs Rogan. “He looks young. Oh, so he covers himself up like that when he works.” Watching a clip of Sulek’s training demonstration, Rogan said “you can hear the steroids in his voice.”  “3.6 million followers.” “Just from being jacked. Isn’t it crazy that just being jacked could get you millions of subscribers now? So he’s doing all kinds of crazy lifts.” “Bro, you can hear the steroids in his voice. He’s gargling steroids. That guy is jacked. Look at the fucking legs on him. Holy shit. Look at his fucking thighs. Bro, that guy must chafe like a motherfucker.” As for Sulek’s end goal, Rogan expects it to revolve around adding size. “More massive [is probably his goal]. Tom Haviland, maybe that’s his goal.” Joe Rogan isn’t the only person discussing Sam Sulek’s meteoric rise. Weeks ago, reigning five-time Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead talked about Sulek with Urs Kalecinski. Bumstead was impressed with Sulek’s efforts and said he had the potential to take over the world, but only after he retires. Meanwhile, Open standout Nick “The Mutant” Walker also addressed Sulek’s fame. Given Sulek’s physique, diet, and steroid use, Walker believes he’s ‘instilling’ the wrong message in kids who watch his content, adding that he’s ‘not okay’ with what he’s ‘putting out.’ Other bodybuilding voices like Lee Priest believe criticisms of Sam Sulek are unfounded. Priest backed Sulek up, citing his maturity levels. Moreover, Priest argued that Sulek’s fan backlash came as a result of jealousy. There’s no denying Sam Sulek has become one of the most talked-about names in fitness. While he’s yet to compete in bodybuilding or discuss his use of steroids, Sulek continues to dominate discussions online. Mother-in-law’s cruel gender reveal party prank leaves mum-to-be sobbing

A mum-to-be’s gender reveal was ruined after her mother-in-law carried out a cruel prank. It isn’t always easy to bite our tongues when it comes to the actions and opinions of our in-laws. But one woman, who wishes to remain unnamed, has drawn the line after being so hurt by her husband’s mother, she was reduced to tears and ran out of the party. The pregnant woman’s mother-in-law decided to take charge of the party planner. She offered to keep her grandchild’s gender a secret and purchase confetti cannons for the big day. But her kind gesture was ruined when she used ‘fake’ cannons before revealing the real gender of the baby. The annoyed mum took to Reddit to share her frustration. She explained that this pregnancy was extra special to the family as they had sadly dealt with four miscarriages, and the mother wanted her two boys to have another sibling. She expressed that while she would be happy to “keep her boy mum crown” she would also love to have a little girl. Speaking about what happened at the gender reveal party, the mum said: “We get to the cannons. Mother-in-law hands us both a cannon. Husband gets to go first and all I see is pink confetti, the sweetest surprise, my life with a daughter flashing in my mind. “I’m hugging my husband, tears shed, I was shaking happy. I’m always very calm and collected when I’m excited. My mom is crying happy for me, this is the biggest best surprise I’ve ever had. I was fully expecting a third boy.” The mum was confused when her mother-in-law said she also had her own cannon but when she let it off it revealed the real gender of her grandchild – a boy. The mum added: “I instantly regret my initial ecstatic response. Why are there both colours now? She then hands us the ‘real’ cannons, and they both pop blue. “Of course, I can’t match my previous energy. I hugged my husband and people around me and excused myself. And I cried. And I haven’t really stopped for hours now. Don’t get me wrong, I am so incredibly thankful for the opportunity to have any children and I know health is number one.” She continued: “I had this space in time where my dream of a daughter came true and now I’m grieving that. I know I’ll love my son with all my heart and I am not upset he’s a boy at all, it’s just the rollercoaster broke my heart today. “I feel like a jerk for being so upset but all this happened in front of an audience. I’m so embarrassed and this happy video taken of the reveal isn’t even real. It’s a moment in time I got my heart broken.” The annoyed woman said that she did not understand what her mother-in-law was thinking nor did she find the prank funny. The grandmother later apologised. After sharing what happened, a number of Reddit users comforted her and said she was not wrong for feeling upset. One individual said: “Who the hell thinks it’s a good idea to mess with the emotions of a pregnant woman? Seriously!” Another commented: “I’m really sorry you had to go through that, and with an audience to boot. Give yourself some credit, you handled it as gracefully as possible.” One other wrote: “This is why I hate pranks. They are only for the entertainment of the prankster. I mean, who pranks a pregnant woman?” Another individual said: “It sounds like she meant for them to both do the fake cannons at the same time, which would have revealed both colours and led to confusion, instead of a false positive on the girl. “It still wouldn’t be funny, but it wouldn’t be cruel like it turned out this way.” Do you agree? Lady Gaga’s dad says migrants have ‘taken over’ NYC neighborhood, causing ‘mayhem’ — calls city’s response to crisis ‘a joke’

Lady Gaga’s father told the New York Post this week that migrants have “taken over” his Upper West Side neighborhood and caused “mayhem.” He called the city’s response to the crisis “a joke.”

The Post reported that Lady Gaga’s dad, 66-year-old Joe Germanotta, is leading an effort to bring the neighborhood’s concerns to lawmakers, local law enforcement, and homeless services.

Germanotta, who opened a restaurant in the area in 2012, has lived in the Pythian building on West 70th Street for over three decades.

Down the road from Germanotta’s home, the Stratford Arms Hotel was recently converted into a shelter for approximately 500 migrants, he told the outlet. The building previously served as a residence hall for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

He accused the AMDA of selling out neighbors and called the transition a “pretty rapid” “stealth operation.”

“There’s now 500 migrants living in that dormitory. That’s when all the mayhem began,” Germanotta told the Post. “Hookers are coming and going. In the mornings, you see prostitutes coming out of the building.”

Germanotta bemoaned the late-night noise from loud music and motorbikes, noting that it begins at around 10 p.m. and continues through 4 a.m. He added that the streets are filled with trash, children are catcalled, and residents are verbally abused.

He referred to the migrants as “guests in our neighborhood” who have “basically taken over.”

“I think, for the most part, the 500 that are in there are good people,” Germanotta stated. “And I think they’re locked into very small rooms and when they get out, they go out at night, and they party.”

The pop star’s father said he does not mind having the migrants in his neighborhood.

“They’re gonna be there for three years. That was the contract, I understand. But at least manage it. Put the proper security in place, have a police presence and a code of conduct,” he said.

Germanotta and the West 70th Street Association are urging city officials to create a written plan outlining how the neighborhood will be restored.

“Most of the people in (my) building are owners. They feel that this situation has affected their property values,” Germanotta continued. “Give us something back. Give us a tax rebate. They’re spending all this money, OK, give me some.”

Germanotta added that he would have moved if the area had been in such disarray when he was raising his children.

Democratic Mayor Eric Adams’ response to the crisis has been “a joke,” he said.

Germanotta believes that officials should have suspended the “sanctuary city” status until the situation was under control.

“It’s a joke. Why doesn’t he get one of the cruise ships? The cruise ships hold more people, and it’s a more controlled environment,” he continued. “The city is spending a tremendous amount of money that could be spent towards building affordable housing.”

“The really sad part is that in the neighborhood, we still have our share of veterans and homeless — but we’re not taking care of our own. They don’t get food every day. It’s really sad. I feel for them,” Germanotta said.

The City Hall and AMDA did not respond to a request for comment, the Post reported.
