Ryan Gravenberch explains why Liverpool team-mate has been biggest surprise – “It’s crazy” – Mirror Online
Ryan Gravenberch has lauded his new Liverpool team-mate Dominik Szoboszlai – describing his ball-striking ability as “crazy”.
Gravenberch, 21, joined the Reds from Bayern Munich on deadline day. He’s featured four times in the Premier League since his transfer and is part of Jurgen Klopp’s new-look midfield, which also contains fellow summer signings Alexis Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.
Yet it’s the latter star who’s really impressed Gravenberch. Szoboszlai, 22, has featured in all of Liverpool’s games this season, scoring twice. The Hungary international’s screamer from around 25 against Leicester in the Carabao Cup was a particular highlight.
Gravenberch has praised Szoboszlai’s ability to leave Liverpool fans excited about the future. Klopp hopes the pair will form a good partnership in the heart of his midfield and win several trophies over the next few years after a difficult 2022/23 campaign.
Liverpool missed out on Champions League qualification and failed to win a major trophy last season. They already look like a much better team this time around, as they sit just three points behind Premier League leaders Tottenham in the title race.
Liverpool are also going well in Europe – winning both of their Europa League games so far – and they’ve reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The Reds are among the favourites to win the latter competition with Manchester City already knocked out.
Szoboszlai has played a big role in Liverpool’s revival, as Gravenberch protests. “I think it was Dom Szoboszlai,” Gravenberch told Sky Sports when asked which player surprised him in training. “Because this guy’s shot is… it’s crazy!

“Also sometimes in training, sometimes we shoot after training and it’s like ‘one, two, three’, they go all in. Crazy things. So I think it’s Dom with his shot.”
Gravenberch also revealed the role Klopp and Virgil van Dijk, who was appointed Liverpool’s captain during the summer, played in persuading him to quit Bayern for Liverpool. The youngster is regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in Europe.
Gravenberch, who plays with Van Dijk at international level, said: “I spoke a little bit with Virg and he said, ‘Liverpool are a top club. You’re going to play for sure’. He said things to me and also that gave me a good feeling to come here.”
Liverpool’s newest signing added: “I spoke with the coach and he gave me a good feeling. He said to me, ‘I want you’. And he gave me his plans, he explained everything and he gave me such a good feeling that my decision was a fast one.”

Trump Raises Eyebrows With Joke On Fleeing U.S. To Share ‘Gold Domed Suite With Vladimir’ | HuffPost Latest News
The former president seemed to jest about skipping the country while griping about a $200,000 bond he faces for his criminal case in Georgia.
Vanessa Feltz reveals reaction to Russell Brand’s joke about sleeping with her and her daughters — one aged 15
TELLY host Vanessa Feltz says she was left “deeply offended” after Russell Brand joked about sleeping with her and her daughters — one aged just 15.
On her TalkTV show yesterday, she recalled her appearance on the comic’s chat show 1 Leicester Square in 2006.
She then played a clip in which Brand asks: “Can I have it off with either you or your daughters?”
Vanessa said: “I remain deeply offended at the idea of him saying, ‘I want to have sex with you and both your daughters’. I think one was 15 at the time.”
Last month Feltz admitted she doesn’t know the full truth about her cheating ex Ben Ofoedu.
The Talk TV presenter, 61, is appearing on E4’s Celebs Go Dating after splitting from Ben earlier this year.
As she entered the TV dating agency, Vanessa spoke honestly about her heartbreak.
She revealed she still doesn’t know the full story behind Ofoedu’s infidelity and hasn’t spoken to him since the breakup.
Vanessa said: “I think I was happy to love him because he was happy to be there.
“The all the kind of happiness and delight and enthusiasm to be there seemed to kind of evaporate with each year that went by.
“And also he did sort of trickle down tiny filaments of love.”
She was then asked by Anna Williamson and Paul Carrick Brunson how the relationship ultimately came to an end.
Vanessa admitted: “Well in truth I can’t really tell you because I don’t really know.”
James Maddison teases Trent Alexander-Arnold with hilarious jibe after Tottenham vs Liverpool VAR shambles
James Maddison couldn’t help but tease Trent Alexander-Arnold on Instagram over the recent VAR calamity.
The pair are on England duty together and met up for the first time since Liverpool were controversially denied a goal against Tottenham.
VAR did not overrule the incorrect on-field decision of offside when Luis Diaz scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The audio that was subsequently released showed official Darren England hastily saying ‘check complete’, having thought the on-field decision was actually given as onside.
The game restarted and their error was realised almost straight away, but they did not, and could not, pull the game back.
Liverpool released a statement saying they were ‘exploring their options’, while manager Jurgen Klopp said a replay would be fair.
Spurs star Maddison poked fun at Alexander-Arnold in a hilarious Instagram post, making light of those calls for a replay.
Posting a picture of them both, he captioned the image: “Still asking for a replay.”
Maddison and his Tottenham team went on to win that match 2-1, against a nine-man Liverpool side.
Spurs head into the international break top of the Premier League, just ahead of rivals Arsenal, and remain unbeaten.
Maddison has been a revelation at the north London club since his move from Leicester in the summer.
He already has two goals and five assists in eight Premier League games so far this season.
