The left is devouring itself yet again.

And on the menu this time is Michael Che, co-host of “Weekend Update” on “Saturday Night Live.” During the show’s segment a few days back, Che noted that President Joe Biden reversed former President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military.

As the crowd dutifully responded with applause and cheers, Che continued: “It’s good news — except Biden is calling the policy, ‘Don’t ask, don’t tuck'” — a riff on the former policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which prohibited the military from discriminating against gays and lesbians who kept their lifestyles to themselves.

The audience responded with decidedly nervous laughter as Che threw up his hands and haltingly said, “Which is not good news.” After the camera shifted to co-host Colin Jost, Che elicited his own laugh and said, “Whatever.”

What happened next?

Outcry from Che’s fellow leftists was loud and clear. LBGTQ Nation called his joke “transphobic.”

Charlotte Clymer, a lesbian Army vet with Catholics For Choice, lambasted Che and “SNL”: “What is Saturday Night Live’s weird obsession with transphobic nonsense?” Clymer tweeted. “I honestly don’t get it. It’s so lazy and sad. Last night, Michael Che joked about the repeal of the trans ban being called ‘don’t ask, don’t tuck’ — who is this ‘joke’ for?”

Clymer added, “For all the scaremongering over trans people, it never ceases to be incredibly creepy the way some cis people are obsessed with our bodies. It’s gross and weird and creepy.”

Others responded similarly:

Neither Che nor “Saturday Night Live” have commented about the joke, Salon reported. But you know who did run a report on it? NBC News — which happens to be on the same TV network as SNL.

In fact, NBC News posted a number of tweets about the controversy, on its own Twitter page as well as twice on NBCOut — prompting one commenter to ask, “How many times are you going to tweet this, NBC News?”

Not the first time for Che

Salon said Che has faced previous criticism for anti-trans humor, noting that in 2019 he called Caitlyn Jenner by the celeb’s former name (i.e., “dead naming”) and misgendered the former Olympic champion.

The outlet also said Che was criticized for using a transphobic slur in his 2016 stand-up special “Michael Che Matters.”

Anything else?

One might find it interesting — or perhaps not — that a number of Twitter users vigorously defended Che and SNL:

But one also wonders how enthusiastic their entreaties would be if a conservative had uttered the same joke.

Nollywood actress, Joke Jigan has once again cried out over the situation of the estate where she lives.

KFN recalls that a few weeks ago, the mother of one lamented bitterly on Instagram over the bad condition of the estate she resides in Lagos after a heavy downpour.

According to Joke in a recent post on her Instagram page, it has been raining all day and she is scared and contemplating on whether to go home or sleep in her shop.

This she said is because of how flooded the estate is and how their cars will suffer in the stagnant water.

Sharing a photo of what the estate looks like when it rains, Joke wrote;

“This day rain no reach today o! I Dey fear to go house like this sef abi make sleep for shop??? Na only God know as my estate be like this!!! I pity our innocent cars!”

Congratulations are in order for Big Brother Naija ex-housemate, Ka3na on the acquisition of her new house.

According to the mother of one, her white husband and the father of her child gave her the house as a gift for her 27th birthday.

This comes after Ka3na showered praises on her husband and also disclosed that he is the best man for her.

Taking to her official Instagram page to brag about her house gift, the reality star bragged about how she does not use juju for her husband, yet he showers her with gifts.

Some fans of Nigerian singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, have expressed surprise at how the mother’s burial to Nigerian billionaire and club owner Obi Cubana has outshined the singer’s birthday.

Unarguably during the birthday of any Nigerian celebrity, social media is always agog with photos of the celebrant accompanied by prayers and birthday wishes.

However, the birthday celebration of Wizkid took a different turn online as the internet space seemed to be agog with videos and moments from Obi Cubana mother’s burial currently ongoing in Oba, Anambra state.

Although some blogs, fans and friends have taken out time to celebrate the singer, social media feeds and timelines have more moments from the burial of Obi Cubana mother’s funeral than photos of Wizkid.

Many Nigerians have expressed mixed feelings about picking the Naira note of veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo which would be sprayed at the funeral of Obi Cubana mother’s funeral.

Many Nigerian celebrities and friends of Obi Cubana had stormed Oba in Anambra state to honour him as he finally lays his mother to rest.

Kanayo O. Kanayo, who is also at the event, took to his Instagram page to share bundles of five hundred Naira notes he would be spraying at the ongoing funeral.

However, many people are sceptical about picking his money because of numerous negative impressions the movie star had created in the minds of some Nigerians.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have begun work on a follow-up to their 2019 LP Colorado. “Crazy Horse is back in the barn now,” Young wrote in the Neil Young Archives. “Shaking off the rust…It’s been a long time since we have been together, and more than a few tears have been shed.”

They’re recording it at a barn in the mountains of Colorado modeled after a barn from the 1850s that collapsed in the same spot. “It’s an exact replica of the original,” Young writes, “built with Ponderosa pines by Ted Moews and his great crew of artisans. It is magic inside.”

“Mark Humphries is doing our monitors, continuing a near fifty year tradition,” Young writes. “Mark notes that this is our ‘new barn’ to replace Plywood Analog on Broken Arrow Ranch, where we did Ragged Glory, Freedom, and other albums…These are new times, with new songs and feelings after what our world has been through and continues to face.”

Colorado was the first Neil Young and Crazy Horse record since the retirement of longtime guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro. He was replaced by Nils Lofgren, whose professional relationship with Neil Young dates back to the After the Gold Rush sessions in 1970. He also played in Crazy Horse for a brief period in 1971 when they released an album on their own. Bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina have been in Crazy Horse since the group formed in 1968.

The new lineup played a handful of shows in 2018 and 2019, and were planning on touring American arenas in 2020 until the pandemic hit. Young has not played in public since Farm Aid in September 2019, but the annual charity show is returning with an in-person concert on September 25th and Young is on the bill. It’s unclear if he’ll play other gigs around that time.

“The music we are making [is] for our souls,” Young wrote when announcing the new Crazy Horse album. “It’s like fresh water on a desert. Life is going on.”
