Check Out These Hilarious Entries in the New Duck Stamp Contest | Audubon

June 26, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

The outgoing rule requires a hunting scene, but it doesn’t specify that the people have to be hunting the birds.

Last month the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that it was bringing to an end one of the strangest, and some would say silliest, policies of the Trump era: Starting next year, artists will no longer be required to include hunting images in their submissions to the federal duck stamp contest.

The mandate is still in place, however, for this year’s contest, which will be held this weekend. And artists, as artists are wont to do, are seizing the opportunity to troll the powers that be.

This year’s submissions are currently anonymous so the judges can assess them without bias. But based on a Flickr gallery of contest entries, several artists appear to be saying to the government: You want hunting scenes? We’ve got your hunting scenes right here.

Mixed in with mostly earnest and lovely renderings of waterfowl in their natural habitat, the gallery features some more subversive interpretations of the contest rules, such as a Redhead with a knowing look pointing a shotgun at a duck hunter. Other submissions include a close-up image of a shotgun blazoned across a beautiful painting of a King Eider, and—because why not?—a rendering of Vermeer’s “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” but with what looks to be a Blue-winged Teal in the girl’s place. Another artist painted a Redhead embracing a hunter and, as far as we can tell, a businessman of some sort.

You can’t miss the hunting imagery in this painting of a King Eider.

As Audubon readers well know by now, the duck stamp is not a postage stamp—though stamp collectors do prize them—but rather is a type of permit required to hunt waterfowl. The winning artwork from each year’s contest appears on the following year’s stamp. The tradition is a boon for conservation: Since 1934 duck stamp purchases have raised more than $1.1 billion to acquire some 6 million acres of waterfowl habitat at national wildlife refuges.

Hunters account for the majority of those purchases, but birders and other outdoors enthusiasts also buy duck stamps to support conservation. Past contest paintings occasionally included hunting scenes, since the stamp is, after all, a hunting license. But in 2019 the Trump administration mandated that all entries include a hunting element, and made “Celebrating our Waterfowl Hunting Heritage” the contest’s permanent theme.

Who are these guys?

Many artists were unhappy with the change, both on a practical level—painting ducks is challenging enough, they said, without having to squeeze in a hunting scene—and because the change could alienate non-hunters, needlessly driving a wedge between camps of conservationists that share the goal of preserving wildlife populations.

In last year’s contest, artists resorted to painting shotgun shells and other elements that looked to many observers like litter marring what should by idyllic nature scenes. The dustup drew wider attention to a contest that had previously kept a fairly low profile outside the wildlife-art world.

Now, it seems, a raft of new artists have alighted upon the contest, putting their impressive skills and irreverent humor to work skewering the pro-hunting mandate. This odd chapter in the duck stamp’s long history may be coming to a close, but their art will live on.

TJ Dillashaw: Aljamain Sterling Is ‘Crazy’ To Consider Himself Champ

June 26, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

TJ Dillashaw

TJ Dillashaw doesn’t believe Aljamain Sterling is a legitimate UFC champion.

‘The Funk Master’ has held the 135lb title since picking up a win over Petr Yan via disqualification at UFC 259 in March.

Sterling appeared to be on the verge of a KO/TKO loss before the Russian fighter hit him with an illegal knee. The 32-year-old was unable to continue and ultimately declared the champion by default.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Dillashaw expressed his belief that the referee was right to disqualify Yan but he also stated that Sterling is “crazy” to consider himself a true UFC champion.

“I mean he did… that was an illegal knee, but it’s just so hard to accept the belt that way though, right? It’s so hard to be the champion. And maybe I can accept it if it wasn’t a title fight,” Dillashaw said. “Yeah, you get to win, right? But to say you’re a champion off a disqualification is just crazy. I do say that Yan deserved to lose the fight, cause he did something blatantly illegal. But nah, I wouldn’t say that in my mind Sterling is the champion.”

Dillashaw is worried about how Sterling’s recent neck surgery will impact his performances.

“I think Yan’s gonna build a lot more confidence and I think it’s gonna mess with Sterling’s head to see how bad he really got punked, that his wrestling didn’t work at all,” Dillashaw said. And then the surgery he got done, man, I’m really questioning if he’s ever going to really come back to his full stability. That’s a legit surgery. He went and got his disc replaced in his neck. I mean, I don’t even know if he can ever really be [the same]. I mean, we’ll see. I’m not a doctor, but I think that’s something I would have rolled with a little bit longer and got some defenses under my belt and try to make that cash while he can, cause I don’t know man. I just don’t know how he’s going to come back from that.

Even without the surgery, Dillashaw thinks Yan simply has Sterling’s number and will dethrone him at UFC 267.

“But even just the way the first fight played out. I just think Yan’s got his number,” Dillashaw stated.  “Aljamain just doesn’t have enough striking depth or danger to threaten Yan with strikes to set up his takedowns, right? Like, these guys that Sterling’s been able to beat, he’s been desperately been able to get in on them and they freak out. But Yan was able to really keep his composure and not get overly aggressive and kind of play out Sterling in the first couple of rounds, let him gas out, and then just started punking him. So, I think with that being said, it’s going to be a little bit more of the same. Maybe just a little bit sooner even.”

Do you agree with TJ Dillashaw? Is Aljamain Sterling “crazy” if he considers himself a true champion?

Spartak Moscow ruthlessly mock Bayern Munich’s “joke” offer for Liverpool star Sadio Mane – Mirror Online

June 25, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Spartak Moscow have mocked Bayern Munich are they saw on offer rejected for Sadio Mane, with Liverpool labelling it a “joke”.

The German side are in the market for a forward as they face the threat of losing Robert Lewandowski, who has expressed a desire to leave the Allianz Arena. Mane is another player who could be on the move in the coming months with his contract due to enter its final 12 months.

Bayern have looked to test the Reds’ resolve, with their latest offer of £30m being rejected. That included an up front payment of £23.5m with a further £6.5m in add-ons. Liverpool’s issue was, not only with the price, but the extreme bonus payments included.

It would require Mane to claim the Ballon d’Or on three occasions – he currently has none at the age of 30. It would also need Bayern to scoop a hat trick of Bundesliga titles, along with European trophies. Liverpool have told the Bundesliga champions not to return unless they make an offer north of £40m.

That hasn’t stopped Spartak poking fun at the German side however with a mock transfer offer on Twitter. They’ve drawn up a joke letter, signalling Bayern’s intent to bid for Alexander Sobelov. They’ve stated that an initial €1,000 will be paid upfront.

However their add-ons are as follows. €10m if Bayern win Eurovision, €15m if Manchester United claim a trophy and €20m if Lionel Messi returns to Spain and joins Real Madrid. The latter especially borders on impossible given his association with Barcelona.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Mane stay at Liverpool? Let us know in the comments

The German side are also not going to be winning a singing competitions anytime soon. Germany have won Eurovision just once in the last 35 years. Mane has recently come out and clarified comments he made whilst with Senegal. He initially claimed: “I respect the fans and team but 60 to 70 per cent of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I’ll do what they want.”

He later clarified his comments, stating: “I spoke yesterday while joking with a bit of humour and it was everywhere. I think we’ll stop there. Liverpool is a club I respect a lot. The fans adopted me since day one. Regarding the future, we’ll see.”

Liverpool are in the midst of negotiating a new contract for Mo Salah, who also has less than a year to run on his deal at Anfield. The two clubs continue to be engaged in talks with no solution yet found between them. Benfica’s Darwin Nunez is seen as a potential summer arrival should the club lose a marquee player.

The Nick Cannon Baby-Making Saga Is Not Funny

June 25, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

How much can one man give to multiple children bred in multiple homes?

I often think of that when I hear about men, usually famous ones, who have more than a handful of children. According to Nick Cannon, who has welcomed seven, more are on the way.

During a recent visit to Angela Yee’s podcast Lip Service, he was asked about reportedly expecting three more children. He didn’t deny it, joking that if people thought the number of kids he welcomed in 2021 was too much, which was three, they hadn’t seen anything yet. It has since been confirmed that he already has two coming this year, including one child with a woman named Bre Tiesi, due soon, and another with Abby De La Rosa, whom he welcomed twins with in 2021. De La Rosa just revealed that she’s expecting again.

Cannon doesn’t really know how many will be born this year, because after hoping to close out last year celibate, the tragedy of losing seventh child, son Zen, in December left him going back on his plans and engaging in a lot of seemingly unprotected sex:

My therapist told me I needed to chill out. So I was like, let’s try celibacy. That was October. I didn’t even make it to January. I was supposed to make it to the top of year but obviously I started going through some things. I got depressed with the loss of my son. So in December…everybody saw I was so down, so everybody was like, “Let me just give him a little vagina, that’s going to cure it all!” And I fell victim to it because I was in a weak state. So December especially, right before Christmas, I started f–king like crazy.

Throughout this moment, he smiled and laughed about it, and people applauded his honesty about how his relationships work, but I couldn’t help but ask myself, What is really going on? If he and the women he deals with who are fine with whatever this setup is just want to be adults and have sex with one another all the time, more power to them. But once you bring children into the picture, it’s no longer just harmless fun.

With all due respect to Cannon, there’s just nothing really funny about a man procreating so often that it becomes a topic of conversation; (“So how many kids you got coming this year!?”) that private moments between him and his partners becomes public fodder in interviews; that he believes he “fell victim” to the unprotected sex he continuously, knowingly had because he was hurt, and that he mourned one child by, one could say, inadvertently having more as opposed to just sitting in, confronting and managing his understandable grief.

I don’t fault people who have relationships that fall apart within which they welcome a child (or multiple), and they try to do the best they can for their kid(s). I don’t fault people for unexpectedly having a child with someone they didn’t plan to be with but they try to do the best they can for their kid. But I do take issue with people who choose to continuously have children they know good and well they can’t adequately be there for.

And let’s be clear: being able to financially provide doesn’t make up for the affection, time and presence that children need from their parents. I’m not calling him a bad father, but how can one man properly stretch himself between soon-to-be nine children? He simply can’t. How many school events can he attend for them all when he’s not dealing with work commitments (and Cannon has multiple hosting gigs)? How often can he tuck them into bed? Can you truly give your best dividing yourself between a group of people that size?

It seems for Cannon that he uses sex to help him cope emotionally, which may be why his therapist encouraged him to “chill out.” And it also seems that the end of his marriage to Mariah Carey, whom he shares twins with, also changed him emotionally. In his recent song “Alone,” which was about that breakup, he said, “this song is really about reflection, the process of when somebody, and men we do this a lot, where you realize ‘I really messed up, I had probably the greatest situation.’ I had my dream girl, and I messed it up.’”

That situation has allowed him to now be a person who doesn’t see a benefit in monogamy (or contraception).

“I just don’t feel like monogamy is healthy,” he told Dr. Laura Berman in February. “I feel like that gets into the space of selfishness and ownership.”

But monogamy can’t be more selfish than creating a brood of children who didn’t ask to be in the world with women you like to have sex with but don’t want to commit to — just because you can.

I think Cannon, who has been told to slow down and said himself that he needs to slow down, should heed that advice. Because what is the end game? Who really benefits from the way he’s doing things? Truly, not Cannon himself, and certainly not the kids.

Alex Ferguson ignored Liverpool legend for 20 years after overhearing rude joke – Mirror Online

June 24, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Sir Alex Ferguson’s main enemy throughout his illustrious 26-year tenure as Manchester United boss was undoubtedly Liverpool.

The former United manager infamously vowed to “knock Liverpool off their f****** perch” in 2002 and was rarely in for a warm welcome whenever he made the trip to Anfield.

But his relationship with one former Reds star was particularly frosty for the best part of two decades after he accidently overheard a joke made at his expense.

Gary McAllister won a cup treble while a Liverpool player, and played vital roles in both their League Cup and FA Cup triumphs in 2001. But it was an incident that occurred while he was still at Leeds that sparked a fallout with Ferguson.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Was Ferguson right to snub McAllister? Comment below

Having spent six seasons with Leeds in the nineties, McAllister helped United’s Elland Road rivals win the first division in 1991/92 as they became the final champions of England before the inaugural Premier League season.

After Leeds had registered a 3-2 victory over Sheffield United earlier on in the day, Liverpool had beaten United 2-0 in the penultimate game of the season to help secure the title victory.

Following their win over the Blades, McAllister watched the United vs Liverpool clash at the home of Lee Chapman alongside Eric Cantona, David Batty and a television crew.

Once Liverpool’s win over united had been confirmed, the trio of Leeds players started to celebrate while still McAllister was still wired to the television studio.

A comment made by the former Scotland international during said broadcast would lead to a lengthy breakdown in his relationship with Ferguson for the next 20 years.

“We all went back to Chappy’s house after the game in Sheffield to watch Man U play Liverpool at Anfield,” told fans in association with Sport & Fitness Middle East back in 2017.

“Because I’d done some TV work, I was tuned in to the director at Anfield so I could hear the director and all his comments, talking to the presenter, talking to the cameramen. I could hear everything which was going on in the studio.

“Liverpool win 2-0 and Leeds United win the league, we’re p****d. After the game, we’re watching the pictures coming across and the interviews after the game and I can hear in my ear the director saying, “Get to the tunnel, we’ve got Fergie.”

“Milliseconds later he’s up on the TV and Fergie comes on. His face is bright red.

“His first comments, as you can expect, were, ‘I want to make it clear, Leeds haven’t won the league. Manchester United have lost the league! I’m making it clear!’

“Nose very red, he says, ‘Make no mistake, Leeds have not won the league! Manchester United have lost the league! We’ve thrown the league away.’

“So flippantly in Lee Chapman’s living room, I say, ‘Big red-face as gracious as ever in defeat.’

“Then Dennis Law came back in my ear and said, ‘Gary, Fergie can hear you.’

Birmingham Post and Mail)

“Alex Ferguson has walked past me in Lithuanian airports and Albanian hotels for 20 years and never looked in my direction!”

Thankfully, the pair eventually ended their feud after Ferguson contacted McAllister following the death of his wife Denise in 2006.

“This is the measure of the man. When you’re competing against him, you’re the enemy, but when I went through this tragic experience with cancer, who was the first person to call me? Alex Ferguson,” McAllister added.

“He was the first person to make a phone call. He invited me to the training ground at Carrington. He said, “You can come to training any day. You can come to Old Trafford to any game.”

“The first mass card I got through the post was from his wife. You see this figure, when you’re competing against him, he’ll do anything to beat you.

“But there’s a gentle side to Alex Ferguson and that’s something I learned down the line. For 20 years, I did not exist!”
