Carles Puyol apologises for “clumsy joke” after replying to Iker Casillas “I’m gay” tweet – Mirror Online

February 14, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Carles Puyol has moved to apologise for his reply to Iker Casillas, after the Real Madrid legend tweeted that he was gay.

The Spanish goalkeeper later deleted the tweet and claimed he had been hacked, but not before Carles Puyol engaged with him on social media and joked about their relationship. The Barcelona legend replied: “The time has come to tell our story, Iker” with pictures of them celebrating together.

It saw Puyol and Casillas come in for huge criticism and the former has since apologised for any hurt he caused. The former defender said: “I have made a mistake. Sorry for a clumsy joke with no bad intentions and totally out of place. I understand that it may have hurt sensitivities. All my respect and support for the LGTBIQA+ community.”

Casillas too has had to clarify his comments, having originally said: “I hope you respect me: I’m gay,” on social media. He later deleted his tweet and said: “Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.”

Josh Cavallo, an Australian player who came out as gay last October, is among those to hit out at the pair who made light of the situation on social media. He said: “Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol joking and making fun out of coming out in football is disappointing. It’s a difficult journey that any LGBTQ+ ppl have to go through. To see my role models and legends of the game make fun out of coming out and my community is beyond disrespectful.”

Cavallo’s post was shared by Jake Daniels, the Blackpool star who became the first current player in the UK to come out as gay since Justin Fashanu in 1990 when he made his announcement back in May.

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique also slammed his fellow Spaniard, saying on social media: “Instead of apologize and recognize the mistake rather lie to everyone.” Reports in Spain claimed that Casillas was frustrated by recent speculation surrounding his dating life. AS reported that Casillas’ post was a response to rumours regarding a new relationship with Alejandra Onieva – 18 months after separating fromSara Carbonero, the mother of his two children.

Casillas called time on his playing career in 2020 after a hugely successful career that lasted more than two decades. The goalkeeper came through the ranks at Los Blancos and established himself as their No.1 at a young age. His career in Madrid saw him play 725 times. During that period he won three Champions League titles, starting in their La Decima triumph of 2014. He also won 167 caps over a 16-year period with his country.

New Brunswick’s Crazy Canucks bring home best sled award from U.S. toboganning meet | CBC News

February 14, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Four members of the Fredericton Toboggan Club returned home as winners after competing in the U.S. National Toboggan Championship in Camden, Maine.

The Crazy Canucks team brought home the bronze in the four-person category at an international competition with more than 1,000 participants from as far away as Ireland.

“It blows my mind,” said Derick Weeks. “I think everybody on the team feels the same way.”

Weeks, along with teammates Justin Agnew, Mat Fitzgerald, and Adam Valentate came in at 10.55 seconds in the 32nd annual competition on Sunday. According to the event’s website, the toboggan chute is “400 feet long and rises 70 feet in elevation, allowing many toboggans to reach speeds up to 40 miles per hour.”

Adam Valentate won 'Best Crafted Toboggan' for the sled he built in garage over the past year. He credits his unique mesh woven pad for setting his design apart.

The win came as a shock as they’d only competed once before. Previously they built a much different toboggan, opting to aim for lightweight and streamlined. This year they changed strategies. At the weigh-in their toboggan came in at 49.8 pounds, just shy of the 50-pound limit.

“There’s guys that have been trying for one of these little wooden trophies for 15 years,” said Adam Valentate, who built the toboggan in his garage over the last year. “It’s amazing how much people covet these little things. And we really did something special to come in our second year and already come home with some hardware.”

Best sled

Valentate also took home the award for Best Crafted Toboggan at the competition for the sled he crafted from walnut, using maple for its runner. He says what set their sled apart is the unique woven mesh he spent hours on to make the mandatory seat cushion. He credits that mesh design for the win, saying there were a lot of teams eyeing the design for future builds.

“There’s hundreds of toboggans that get built for this thing, and to be recognized as the best one was quite a feeling,” said Valentate.

“And not only was it the prettiest toboggan there, it was the third fastest in the four-man competition, so we not only had a good-looking sled, but we had a real fast sled.”

The team says they first entered last year for fun, not realizing the depth of competition that existed. While there is a shared sense of camaraderie, they say there are some teams who are very secretive about their sleds and strategies. Some don’t want photos snapped of their sleds, and others are very specific about what time of day they go down the hill.

The Fredericton Toboggan Club brought home the awards for 'Best Crafted Toboggan' and third place in the '4-Person Division' race with a time of 10.55 seconds.

After one team didn’t take the top spot, they made a slick video about “sacrificing” their toboggan to a wood-chipper vowing to return to the drawing board and take the championship the following year. But others are all too happy to share their stories about what they call their functional art that goes flying down icy hills.

The team says it’s all in good fun, pointing to the Oldest Team award. This year’s winner was the Frogs on a Log team with an average age of 83.

The Fredericton team is vowing to try to take the top spot next year and recruiting a women’s team to join them at the competition.

“It’s just a fun, fantastic event with a whole bunch of nice, welcoming people that want to talk about what they’ve built,” said Valentate.

Chris Jones gets robbed of strip sack by crazy officials

February 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – JANUARY 16: Chris Jones #95 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrates defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 42-21 in the NFC Wild Card Playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 16, 2022 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by David Eulitt/Getty Images)

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones was robbed of a strip sack of Derek Carr by the most ridiculous call by the officials in Week 5.

We wouldn’t blame you if you threw a few things around your house or at least woke up some of your neighbors by yelling on Monday night. That’s because the officials made several ridiculous calls against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 including one that robbed defensive lineman Chris Jones of a strip sack against Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders are visiting the Chiefs in Week 5 and are currently up by multiple possessions on the road in primetime. They deserve plenty of credit for that, despite some weird officiating against the home team, because they clearly came to play. Until the second quarter, the Chiefs looked completely uninspired and the Raiders were physical and owning the trenches on both sides of the ball.

However, just before halftime, things got insane when Jones was able to finally collapse on Carr with a stellar move and display of strength and athleticism. The result was a strip sack and a key turnover that would have given the Chiefs the ball before halftime at a key point. it also would have kept the Raiders from adding to their lead with a field goal before heading to the locker rooms.

Instead, the refs conspired together and ended up calling Jones for a roughing the passer penalty for coming down on Carr with all of this weight instead of giving him credit for the sack and coming up with the ball at the same time.

Check out the play here:

i mean this roughing the passer call might mean the whole game… fumble versus first down

What in the heck is Chris Jones supposed to do? He makes an incredible play, even takes the football away, and then gravity does its thing and that’s a penalty?pic.twitter.com/VDRoUxdGvQ

— Billy Heyen (@BillyHeyen) October 11, 2022

What is Jones supposed to do there? What sort of move can be possibly made to still get the sack, the fumble recovery, and somehow avert any contact with Carr while falling? Andy Reid was wondering himself.

Andy Reid didn’t go into the tunnel, instead took off his mic stuff and called Carl Cheffers to him along the sideline. Reid let Cheffers have it.

— Herbie Teope (@HerbieTeope) October 11, 2022

The officials are just asinine here with their expectations and it was maddening for Chiefs Kingdom watching the game.

What should’ve Chris Jones done? Stopped gravity? pic.twitter.com/1Ll7myCC4S

— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) October 11, 2022

The NFL should hold a summit where refs have to sack a NFL QB.

— The Cookie Expert (@JeffAllen71) October 11, 2022

Whether Chris had the ball or not, that still shouldn’t have been roughing. So the “but he even had the ball!” arguments are just the cherry on top, it was egregious even before they realized that.

— Mitchell Schwartz (@MitchSchwartz71) October 11, 2022

This roughing the passer call is trash!!! Do you want Chris Jones to lay a pillow down and tuck him in? #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/GS3rwYI2aA

— Emmanuel Acho (@EmmanuelAcho) October 11, 2022

Take notes Chris Jones. This is how you have to tackle the QB in 2022 pic.twitter.com/V7rHUNY5S1

Derek Carr getting the Tom Brady treatment while Chris Jones is just trying to recover the fumble he forced. Brutal call

Seriously what is he supposed to do? Until a team literally walks off the field this will continue to happen. Refs need to be held accountable.

— Sterling Holmes (@HomestretchKC) October 11, 2022

That is literally the worst call I’ve ever seen.

65 Times Cats Did Such Hilarious And Weird Things, Their Owners Just Had To Share The Pics Online (New Pics)

February 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Rejoice, dear Pandas! Our most gracious and benevolent Feline Overlords have decreed that we praise and admire them yet again. Our team here at Bored Panda has traveled to the farthest reaches of the internet to bring you some of the funniest cat pics known to meow-kind. And we hope that this might inspire you to rescue a floof or two from your local animal shelter. Because there’s nothing quite like living with a pet.

Scroll down to check out some of the most hilarious, goofiest, and derpiest things that these pets have ever done. Their owners were blessed to capture these moments, and couldn’t help but share them on the net.

After you’ve upvoted the pics that you loved the most (let’s be honest, it’s all of them, right?) and finished this list, take a peek at Bored Panda’s earlier features about funny cat pics and memes right over here, here, and here.

Bored Panda got in touch with the PDSA, the UK’s leading vet charity, with a couple of questions about cats. We were interested to find out how owners can tell if their cats are feeling happy or lonely, as well as how they might reward their pets in a healthy, engaging way. PDSA Vet Claire Roberts told us that one of the best ways to reward our cats is to spend time with them, and shared some of the biggest signs that your cat is glad to see you! You’ll find our full interview below.

“With humans, you can clearly see if someone is happy or sad through a simple smile—although it might not be quite as obvious with our feline friends, there are some tell-tale signs of happiness they will show you,” PDSA Vet Claire told Bored Panda what to can an eye out for.

“One of the more obvious physical signs is to look out for their tail. The position of a cat’s tail will usually give away a lot about their mood. If they approach you with their tail up in the air and a slight curve at the tip, this shows that they are happy to see you. Similarly, if a cat lies on their back to show you their tummy it means they trust you, as their stomach is a very vulnerable area. Don’t be tempted to give them a tickle or a rub there though—most cats will not appreciate it and may scratch or bite!” she warned.

Meanwhile, when a cat rubs its head or cheek on you, it leaves its scent on your skin. That way, it can recognize that you’re friendly. “This is another sign they are happy to see you! Finally, if your cat blinks slowly at you then they trust you—you can even try a slow blink back to return the message—just avoid staring directly into their eyes as this can be intimidating for them.”

Though we like to think of cats as solitary creatures, they can also enjoy human company, too. Claire, from the PDSA, told Bored Panda about some of the things to look out for when trying to spot signs of loneliness or stress in your cat: “Over-grooming themselves, crying or meowing more than usual, increased clinginess, peeing outside of their litterbox or being generally destructive around the house are all things that could be a sign your cat is lonely, or otherwise stressed.”

“There are many things that owners can do to help if their cat is stressed, so always keep an eye on your cat’s behavior and seek expert advice from your vet if you’re worried. Be aware that getting another cat might not be a good solution though as not all cats will get along.”

We were also interested in how pet owners might reward their cats for good behavior. Aside from spending quality time with your floofs, you can also get them some toys that help them stalk and pounce. Fishing rod-style toys, for instance, are a great idea.

“Cats enjoy variety, so put toys away and bring out different ones each day for playtime,” PDSA Vet Claire said. “Or why not make some yourself? Cats generally will only want to play in short bursts, around 10 minutes at a time—but they’ll also appreciate time relaxing curled up on the sofa with you.”

According to the vet, cats enjoy the occasional treat (just like we do!). “If you’re training your cat, you will need to use food or treats to reward the behaviors you want, as unlike dogs, cats may not find toys enough of an incentive. However, as long as you’re feeding a complete diet that is appropriate to their life stage, your cat doesn’t actually need treats to meet their nutritional needs—treats are classed as a ‘complementary’ food, which means they are fed in addition to your cat’s normal diet. Any treats you give will take up part of their calorie allowance without providing your cat with the correct balance of nutrition,” she explained to Bored Panda.

The PDSA representative stressed the fact that cats process their food and calories differently than we do! “They are also much smaller, so something that seems like a small treat for us is often a lot of calories for our cats! For training, you can either use some of their normal ration of food for the day, or use a few treats and reduce their normal food accordingly—no more than 10% of their daily calorie ration should be made up of treats.”

We love looking at cat pics a lot because they’re funny, cute, and relatable. They’re an easy way to make someone smile (and we could all use some extra positivity in these times), but they also make you realize that not every cat has a place to call home.

Even though life is great with a pet (or two, or three) around the house, taking care of animals isn’t all fun and games. Sure, you’ve got a companion for life, someone who snuggles up to you, loves to play, and amuses you with their antics. But they’re a huge responsibility as well: you’re taking care of another living, breathing, thinking being.

So before you rush off to adopt all the cats you can find in your local area, sit down and think about what you can realistically provide. Be realistic. Do you have enough space for the animal? Will you be able to spend enough time with your pet? Do you know how to provide them with a healthy diet and ensure that they get enough movement? What kind of pet will best suit your lifestyle and character? There are a bunch of questions that you need to find the answers to!

“It should be expected that you’ll experience lifestyle changes over the course of the pet’s life, such as moving, having children, or getting a new job, so it’s important to consider how you will care for your pet during those changes before you add that pet to your family; many shelters offer various forms of support to answer questions you might have before you adopt, or afterward,” a representative of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals explained to Bored Panda during an earlier interview.

“While each shelter is different, pets are generally assessed and then introduced to potential adopters based on the likelihood of compatibility. Every animal is an individual—even those within a specific species or breed—and shelter staff are experts at making matches that work. If you ultimately determine that now is not the best time to adopt, fostering can allow you to change an animal’s life for the better and is a rewarding experience for those who choose to become caregivers,” the ASPCA said.

“We always encourage adopters to keep an open mind and heart when visiting a shelter or rescue; as you may walk out with a pet you’d never considered before, like a senior animal or an animal who looks nothing like what you originally had in mind. Adopting an animal from a shelter or local rescue organization saves more than one life by freeing up space and resources for another animal in need.”

Meanwhile, the Arizona Humane Society previously explained to Bored Panda that each and every animal is an individual. That’s something that you should keep in mind when considering adoption or becoming a foster parent to a pet.

“Although we may be ready to welcome our pets with open arms and lots of cuddles, our pets may not be on that level yet so it is important to give them time and space to acclimate to their new surroundings, becoming comfortable in the home and have time to decompress and de-stress if needed,” a representative from AHS said.

#21 I Can Be Your Angel Or Your Devil

“Make sure your pet has a comfortable, safe, and quiet space they know they can go if they need time away or time to themselves. If there are young children in the house, it also is important to ensure that they understand the do’s and don’ts of interacting with pets (i.e. letting pets come up to you for pets/cuddles, don’t get too close to their face, don’t interfere with feeding times, etc.),” they explained to us.

Some of the things that you can do to make your new pet comfortable at home is to have fresh food, water, and proper shelter available to them. These are things that you can prepare in advance. Also, consider getting them some toys and treats, as well as giving them a safe space for them to acclimate to their forever home.

“When looking to adopt a pet, it is extremely important to do your research about not only the type of pet you’d like but also the care and needs of that particular pet. Many shelters and rescues are very open and transparent about a pet’s medical and behavioral background, so it is important to fully understand what a pet will need to ensure it has the best quality of life with your family. If you have questions about a pet’s history or the care it will need moving forward, do not be shy to ask the adoption counselors or employees helping you with the adoption process,” the AHS told Bored Panda some time ago.

“At the end of the day, it is OK if you decide you are not ready to commit to adopting. There are many different ways you can still support your local rescues and shelters and help save the lives of pets that don’t directly involve adopting including volunteering, fostering, becoming a donor, and advocating for strong animal protection laws.”

February 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Although it was initially rejected by test audiences, The Mummy became a huge box office hit soon after its original release. This made the iconic duo of Rick and Evelyn, played by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, return to the big screen soon after for a sequel, which was also a commercial success.
