Actor Turned Racer Frankie Muniz Is No Joke in ARCA Racing Series

August 17, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

As the. child star of the early 2000s TV hit Malcolm in the Middle, Frankie Muniz got plenty of laughs as the title character.

This year, no one’s laughing at Muniz’s foray into the

ARCA Menards Series, where he sits second in the points after 11 of 24 races heading into the Reese’s 200 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 11.

Muniz is coming off his first top-five finish of the season for Rette Jones Racing with a fifth-place placing at Michigan International Speedway last weekend. And while he’s yet to lead a lap or win a race, Muniz has been a model of consistency, finishing eight times in the top 10 in his 11 starts.

“I have been craving a top-five finish over the last couple of months. I am glad we were finally able to get the goal accomplished last weekend at Michigan,” said Muniz. “I want more though. I’m excited to go to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park this weekend and contend for back-to-back top-five runs.”

Frankie Muniz (30) has been a consistent top-10 finisher all season in the ARCA Menards Series.

Jesse Love, an 18-year-old phenom who is already in his fourth season racing in the ARCA series, has dominated this year’s field with six wins and holds a commanding 82-point lead over the 37-year-old Muniz in the points chase.

Muniz is also turning heads, despite seeing nearly every racetrack on the schedule for the first time when he rolls into town for the next race.

“Nearly every race has been a challenge for one reason or another, but I believe we have approached the races well and executed them to the best of our ability,” said Muniz. “From superspeedways to intermediate tracks, short tracks and road courses—I’ve embraced it all with an open mind.

“But, if we want to have any shot at this championship, we have to step it up a little. Jesse (Love) though is so good right now and he’ll need to have a little bit of bad luck for us or anyone for that matter to have an impact. That can happen. We’ve seen that happen for both him and us.

“We’ll go to the track this weekend with the same mentality we’ve had for the first 11 races and see what happens when the checkered flag waves on Friday night.”

Mike Pryson covered auto racing for the Jackson (Mich.) Citizen Patriot and MLive Media Group from 1991 until joining Autoweek in 2011. He won several Michigan Associated Press and national Associated Press Sports Editors awards for auto racing coverage and was named the 2000 Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club’s Michigan Motorsports Writer of the Year. A Michigan native, Mike spent three years after college working in southwest Florida before realizing that the land of Disney and endless summer was no match for the challenge of freezing rain, potholes and long, cold winters in the Motor City.

Hilarious video shows 93-year-old grandmother screaming out as animals lean in through car window to feed from her hand at Indiana safari park

A grandmother’s hilariously frightened reaction to animals in a drive-through safari has gone viral and sparked joy across the internet.

Rhoda Cravens, 93, was caught screaming in fright as her daughter, 31-year-old Michelle Cunningham, took her to feed animals at the Wilstem Ranch Safari in Indiana.

The grandmother is seen screaming in a mix of terror and joy as, one after the other, animals poke their heads through and start to eat from the bowl of feed she has in her hands.

Video footage reveals that Rhoda’s hands are shaking as the huge animals, including an enormous horned mammal, come within inches of her, all as Michelle films on in glee.

Meanwhile, Michelle’s young son is spotted fearlessly feeding the various animals.

Her hilarious reaction was captured by her daughter. 31-year-old Michelle Cunningham

In a flap: The 93-year-old looked utterly petrified as various animals arrived to feed from her hand

At one point, the 93-year-old cowered in the car as a pair of docile emus peck at the food bowl held by Michelle’s son.

She also managed to spill huge amount of food all over herself after an emu gave her a nasty shock.

Despite her terror, she is also seen with a huge grin on her face after seeing the exotic animals.

Speaking about her grandma’s reactions, Michelle said: ‘I know she doesn’t care for animals that much but thought it would be a fun experience for her.’

‘I had no idea she would act the way she did but I’m so glad I was able to record her reaction.’

Michelle revealed her grandmother is loving her sudden TikTok fame: ‘She keeps asking what the view count is and can’t believe that almost eight million people have viewed it.’

‘She loves that there are so many positive comments and will have me or my mother sit and read them to her.’

In reaction to the video, one TikTok user joked: ‘You thought you were sending Granny on a day trip, but you almost sent her to the afterlife!’

While another commented: ‘Grandmas heart must be in excellent condition.’

Rhoda has been loving her newfound fame on the internet, and apparently keeps asking what the view count on the video

The internet was overjoyed to see Rhoda’s reaction to the animals at the safari park

Man behind OneAmerica’s downtown ‘dad joke’ signboard says CUL8TR

August 16, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Elissa Maudlin

Indianapolis Star

“What does a pun writer use to write his puns?”

The answer, of course, is obvious: “A pun-cil.” At least it probably is to Jonathan Neal of Carmel.

But Neal and the OneAmerica public relations team don’t use a “pun-cil” to write the often-corny “dad jokes” that entertain people passing through downtown Indianapolis.

They use a signboard (actually two) located outside the OneAmerica tower.

Neal, the man who organizes the jokes adorning the signs, announced his departure last Friday as he transitions to a new job at a different company. He had overseen the witty postings since 2019.

In a farewell tweet, Neal posted a photograph of himself in front of the signboard he used “to bring Indy a smile.” The signboard read, “Racing capital of the world? Just add water.”

Some of the previous jokes on the billboard included:

“When the fog lifts, UCLA.”

“Heard a new song about fishing. It had a great hook.”

“The trees with the best bark are dogwoods.”

“Sweet potatoes wear yammies to bed.”

“Confident oceans are 100% shore.”

“What’s the cutest season of the year? Awww-tumn.”

How the pun began

Neal, 38, came to OneAmerica in October 2017. He graduated from Ball State University and The O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University and IUPUI.

The first time Neal saw the OneAmerica signboard was while driving in downtown Indianapolis. He was surprised, since he wasn’t from the city, and thought it was neat. He also encountered it during his onboarding at OneAmerica but had no idea that, eventually, he’d be the one compiling its punny messages.

OneAmerica started using their signboard in 1958 at the Fall Creek headquarters, when the company was known as American United Life. According to the company website, the first messages included an apology for construction inconveniences, company statistics and holiday wishes.

“Before long, OneAmerica’s president at the time, Clarence Jackson, began using the signboard to convey his keen sense of humor,” the website says.

When the company moved downtown in the 1980s, the signboard tradition continued with a new message every week.

‘Self care’ in cookie form: Gourmet bakeries for indulgent discs

Company employees, the public relations team and everyday people are allowed to submit jokes for the signboard, and there is a submission form on OneAmerica’s website. More curator than comedian, Neal’s job was to send the chosen calembour to Cushman & Wakefield with specifics on letters/characters and details helpful for the person changing the sign — a building engineer.

“It has been, and will continue to be, a deep part of the culture at OneAmerica,” Ahmed Ismail, director of media and public relations for OneAmerica, said via email. “The signboard is a unique cultural function with input from both associates and the general public, engaged in promoting community goodwill.”

Neal said it was really about wordplay and headline writing since there are three lines max and 20 characters to work with including spaces and punctuation. As a writer himself, he would take what people submitted and alter it if it was too long. He’d also consider current events and what was going on in the city.

“I think there are people who are just natural jokesters and I would say I’m kind of quick and witty but … before I worked at OneAmerica, I didn’t constantly tell dad jokes,” Neal said.

“So, when I came up with (a joke), it makes me proud … “

He remembered one joke he made in his car while thinking about the mini marathon OneAmerica hosts. The event was being held virtually at the time because of the pandemic: “If you run solo, aren’t you virtually the mini winner?”

However, Neal stressed, making the funny signboard was a group effort.

Often, his colleague who sits across from him would bring him a dad joke and Neal would make it work for the signboard. Other times someone would say something in a meeting and Neal would think, “Oh that’s a good one! That could be turned into a signboard.”

“You know, sometimes they’re corny, sometimes they’re groan worthy, but most of the time, you know, they make you smile and just bring levity, bring some levity to your day,” Neal said.

His favorite moments

His favorite sign board jokes were related to basketball since he was a University of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball fan. One of the jokes from the NCAA tournament, was: “How do basketball players keep cool? They stand by fans.”

He also liked a paronomasia that a colleague — “the dad-joke king” with a quick-witted, dry sense of humor who always has a joke — created during a winter day in January or February: “If you’re cold, sit in the corner. It’s 90 degrees.”

There were a few moments that stood out to Neal as he reflected on his journey at OneAmerica. The first involved his wife and their anniversary.

“I got a really good pun that was sent to me about 6:30 being ‘hands down the best time,'” he recalled. It arrived in the spring and he was able to keep it until his one-year anniversary with his wife. They had been married at 6:30.

“I brought her downtown and showed her the sign and it was special,” he said. “I got to kind of share that moment with her.”

Another moment Neal remembered was when he and the public relations team decided to change their joke-loving signboard to an inspirational one during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That was a significant time in the history of the signboard since we kind of met the moment and wanted to be a more kind of positive force in downtown during what was a pretty dark time,” Neal said.

The impact of a sign with dad jokes

If Neal could have put anything on the signboard during his last day of work, he said it probably would have been something like, “Working with people like you make it all worthwhile,” or something up about his son Blake.

Twitter users thanked Neal for his work on the sign in response to his announcement, some stating the dad-jokes entertained them or gave them joy.

“We are grateful for Jonathan’s coordination of the OneAmerica signboard and his many other impactful contributions to the company,” Ismail said via email. “Jonathan has taken great care to choose jokes that were relevant, lighthearted and fun, creating a bright spot in our city for many. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

As for the future of the signboard, the fun isn’t going anywhere.

“Hoosiers can rest assured that the signboard jokes will continue to make you smile from ear to ear,” Ismail said, “even if it is because they are just a little too corny.”

Liverpool fans mock Chelsea on social media after Reds hijack deal to sign Moises Caicedo for £111m… and claim Brighton star’s move is ‘hilarious on so many levels’ | Daily Mail Online

August 16, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Liverpool fans have brutally mocked Chelsea fans after the Reds hijacked their deal to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea were favourites for the Ecuadorian’s signature before the Reds stunningly hijacked the move in an effort to improve their own midfield reserves. However reports suggest Caicedo is having second thoughts over a possible move to Anfield.

Mail Sport revealed on Friday that Jurgen Klopp’s side had agreed a £111m fee for the midfielder and it’s led to Reds fans poking fun at the expense of their rivals.

‘This is hilarious on so many levels. Us, a team that is scared to get their wallet out, outbidding Chelsea, a team that will spend £100m on a paraplegic as long as he’s under 18… all because they tried to hijack our target. S***housery from FSG and I’m all for it’, one fan wrote on reddit.

Following years of criticism aimed at Liverpool’s owners for not spending big, the reverse seems to be happening during the current off-season, with Dominik Szoboszlai signed from RB Leipzig for £60m, and Alexis Mac Allister acquired from Brighton for £35m.

Liverpool have agreed a £111m fee for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo (pictured)

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea had been frontrunners to sign Caicedo before Liverpool’s move

‘OH MY GOD!!!!! Caicedo IS A RED!!!!! AM I DREAMIN’??? I AM MADE UP, WHAT A PLAYER WE HAVE GOT!!!! BETTER THAN RICE, HE’S BASICALLY KANTE BUT MORE CREATIVE AN CAN SCORE GOALS!!! WHAT A DAY!!! #FSG HAD TO GO ALL OUT FOR US @LFC FANS AN THEY HAVE!!!!! F####N GET IN!!’, one fan wrote on Twitter.

Another used said: ‘Let’s be clear, £110m is 100% overpaying for a lad with only one full season in the Prem. I also 100% don’t give a f***. It’s not my money and it just feels nice to be able to do this’.

‘Good Morning Reds. Wow! £110m Moises Caicedo Incredible. But he’s perfect for what we need,’ one Twitter used wrote.

‘What a f****** signing this is, a midfield 3 of Mac Allister – Caicedo – Szoboszlai is incredible #LFC,’ added another.

And fans aren’t the only ones chiming in with comments on the deal, but so are some of Liverpool’s former stars.

Ex-defender Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are ‘desperate’ after agreeing a £110m deal with Brighton but insists the move is ‘great business’ by his former club.

Fans were quick to poke fun at Chelsea getting hijacked via posts onto social media

The 45-year-old posted on Twitter: ‘110M is a big price for Caicedo but Liverpool had to pay big as clubs knew they were desperate.

‘But signing two top young players for 145M & selling two of your older players for 52M is great business!’

The former Liverpool defender was previously frustrated at his past club’s lack of transfer activity that has so far seen their midfield rebuild lacking in numbers before news of Caicedo began to emerge.

All signs posted towards Caicedo joining Chelsea before Liverpool’s late intervention ensured the 21-year-old talent would be swapping Brighton for the north west in a huge blow to Mauricio Pochettino.

Passengers on board flight go crazy for Matildas as win puts them in FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-final | 7NEWS

August 16, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

The Matildas fever has well and truly caught on, and it’s even taking off into the skies.

Journalist Jacqui Felgate captured the view from her seat aboard an Emirates flight on Saturday night, showing almost every single screen tuned in to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Passengers go crazy for Matildas winning shot while on board flight.

In the footage, passengers are quiet enough to hear a pin drop while waiting for Cortnee Vine to take her shot in the penalty shootout — the 10th shot for the Aussie team.

The cabin then erupts — to the shock of one poor flight attendant — as Vine successfully makes the shot and secures the game for Australia.

The Matildas made Australian sporting history on Saturday night by defeating France in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Vine has been hailed a hero for making the winning shot in the longest shootout in World Cup history.

Excited onlookers watched as Australia and France took 20 shots in total before the game could be decided.

The nation was well and truly on the edge of its seat throughout the game, with play extending from 90 minutes to 120 minutes before the dramatic shootout began.

Matildas Captain Sam Kerr told 7NEWS last night the shootout was strangely not stressful.

“Weirdly it was super calm, because we had such a process,” Kerr said.

“Of course, it’s stressful on the outside. But we all were really calm, and we had so much faith in (goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold).

“We’ve been doing that all week — all month, really. The process we went through just kept us really calm.

“In the most stressful moment it was pretty calm, actually.”

Saturday’s Matildas match has now been officially declared the highest rating TV sport program in a decade and the biggest ever streaming event.

Preliminary data indicates the game reached more than 7.2 million people on Seven and 7plus, with an estimated average audience during the game of 4.17 million.

This does not include out-of-home viewing at clubs, pubs, sporting venues and other similar viewing figures.

It was the No.1 TV program of the year.

Nationally, 3.69 million tuned in to watch on Seven while 472,000 viewers watched on 7plus.

The 472,000 viewers on 7plus makes the Matildas v France game the biggest streaming event ever seen in Australia.

So far, 11.9 million broadcast viewers and 2.3 million users on 7plus have tuned in to watch Seven’s coverage of the World Cup. More than 269 million minutes of content has been watched on 7plus to date.

The team will be back in action on Wednesday night to play against England in the semi-finals.

You can watch the Matildas v England game from 7pm on Wednesday on Seven and 7plus.
