Ryan Thomas has said he is ‘awe’ of his brother Adam following his exit from Strictly Come Dancing. The former Coronation Street star was seen in the ballroom a couple of times cheering his younger sibling on before his time in the BBC One dance contest came to an end.
On Saturday night (November 4), Adam and Luba returned to the ballroom after facing the dance-off the previous week with an elegant rumba to Dancing On My Own by Calum Scott. Lit only by a spotlight, the actor and his dance partner twirled their way to a score of 27.
But the scores meant Adam placed bottom of the leaderboard alongside Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon and her dance partner Carlos Gu following their energetic samba to Ain’t It Funny by Jennifer Lopez. And following the public vote on Sunday night, Adam and Luba were back in the dance-off for a second week in a row.
Adam reprised his dance while Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrongton, who also recieved the fewest public votes, performed their waltz to Fascination by Nat King Cole again. But in the end the judges unanimously decided to save Angela and Kai, meaning Adam and Luba left at the halfway mark of the competition.
But after the results show aired, a usually active Adam stayed off social media with only Russian dancer Luba addressing their exit online. However, the pair have since appeared on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two and he said of his exit: “I knew going up against Angela we’d be in trouble.”
He added: “She’s amazing, but if anyone was going to send us home I’m happy it was Angela, she’s amazing. She is so elegant and I am really happy for her.”
Now, Adam’s brother Ryan has also had his say. The actor, known for playing Jason Grimshaw in ITV’s Corrie, said in a video posted to his Instagram Story: “Guys, can we just talk about how amazing my brother is? I mean, who needs friends when you have brothers like me. I’m in awe of the guy.
“He’s an inspiration to me because he’s completely stepped out of his comfort zone – mentally, physically, emotionally – and I know I speak to him most days, if not every day, and I know what he’s been through. The pain that he covers up with a smile on his face because of his arthritis. People have no idea what that guy’s been through.
“He doesn’t complain, he just gets his head down and gets on with it and to watch him progress in that show and get so much out of it… Everything happens for a reason, I really believe in that, and I know he’ll take this experience as a positive and I’m just proud of him. I’m really, really proud of him.”
The 39-year-old, who is set to star in Dancing On Ice next year, added: “And do you know what I love about him, everytime I spoke to him throughout the show, all he ever talks about i how amazing everybody is. The guy just champions everyone.”
