Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock joke about attacks at ‘secret’ show

May 12, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Chappelle — who was tackled by a knife-wielding assailant during a set at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday — and Rock, who made headlines for being slapped by Will Smith at this year’s Oscars, both performed a “secret” comedy show Thursday night in Los Angeles, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The tight-lipped show took place inside a small venue in the Comedy Store club and featured a star-studded audience consisting of Kim Kardashian, rappers Sean “Diddy” Combs and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), in addition to comedian Jeff Ross.

Fans paid $160 to see a cigarette-smoking Chappelle, who was billed as a last-minute, unnamed comedian. After raucous ovation, he was joined onstage by Rock about 10 minutes into his set as the duo made light of their viscous circumstances.

In response, Rock — who previously poked fun at Chappelle’s open-field tackle — took the opportunity to clap back at Smith for the now months-long drama he caused.

“At least you got smacked by someone of repute!” Chappelle said to Rock in front of the 70-seat crowd. “I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair.”

Rock chuckled and quipped back: “I got smacked by the softest n—a that ever rapped,” reported the Hollywood Reporter.

Eventually the two moved on to make punchlines about other currents, such as Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s defamation court case and the looming uncertainty of Roe v. Wade.

Then Chappelle decided to take some shots at Combs.

“I am in the [place] where you sat in the car with Biggie Smalls as he died,” Chappelle said near his set’s end, eyeing Combs. “I hate this city.”

After Chappelle was leveled by since-arrested 23-year-old Isaiah Lee — who had his arm broken by the comic’s security team — celebrities and comedians across the nation rushed to the headliner’s defense.

“Somebody getting their ass whooped sends a message to other people, you know?” comedian Kevin Hart said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday. “I think that’s the world that we’re in right now . . .There’s a lot of lines that have gotten blurred. And sometimes you got to take a couple steps backwards to take some steps forwards.”

He continued, praising the fact that “Dave went back after that and finished doing the show.”

“Didn’t let that thing be a big thing. Quickly moved on from it and got back to doing comedy. And that’s what a professional does. Ultimately, you know, these moments of unprofessionalism should not break professionals.”

Amy Schumer Talks ‘Death Threats’ Over Oscars Joke, Said ‘The Misogyny Is Unbelievable’

May 12, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Amy Schumer already discussed how much backlash she got from fans over joking that A-lister Kirsten Dunst was a “seat filler” at the 2022 Academy Awards. Now she’s claiming she got “death threats” that required the LAPD and Secret Service to get involved.

“I got death threats,” she told Howard Stern while appearing on his radio show Thursday. “The Secret Service reached out to me.”

“They were so bad the Secret Service reached out, yeah, about that bit,” Schumer claimed. “I’m like, ‘I think you have the wrong number. This is Amy, not Will [Smith]. You must have the wrong number.’”

“Not that I want Will to get death threats, but the misogyny is unbelievable,” she continued.

“They were that serious and that many,” she said when Stern seemed skeptical. Schumer also said the LAPD contacted her on the matter.

“They were like, ‘How can you disrespect Kirsten Dunst like that,’” the “Life & Beth” alum said.

During the conversation, Schumer reiterated how all her jokes were vetted with the Hollywood stars prior to her telling them. In other words, Dunst was aware of the gag and happy to participate.

“Hey I appreciate the love for Kirsten Dunst. I love her too! That was a choreographed bit she was in on,” Schumer wrote on her Instagram story while trying to explain herself to followers. “Wouldn’t disrespect that queen like that.”

The joke in question involved Schumer questioning the “Spider-Man” actress’ presence at the event.

“Here’s a seat filler,” Schumer said, explaining how some people are invited to big events just to fill empty seats for celebrities when they need to step out. “Honey, do you want to go to the bathroom?”

“Jesse, I loved you in ‘Power of the Dog,’” Schumer said, sitting down next to Dunst’s partner Jesse Plemons.

Plemons replied, “You know, that was my wife, Amy.”

“You’re married to that seat filler?” Schumer asked.

The backlash online was merciless. That wasn’t the only time the “Trainwreck” star got chided for the jokes she made. Online followers accused Schumer of stealing a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio from Twitter.

The Daily Wire originally reported:

Eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed that one of Schumer’s jokes went viral on Twitter in December, leading them to question if the 40-year-old comedian had stolen it.

“Leonardo DiCaprio is so passionate about climate change because he wants to leave a better word for his girlfriends,” user Pjörk shared, making fun of how the actor dates much younger women.

The Oscars host told an incredibly similar joke at the Academy Awards when she said, “[DiCaprio] has done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends.”

Schumer addressed the controversy during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” this week.

“OK. Well, I would like to say, I haven’t personally been on Twitter,” the actress replied after being asked about stealing the joke. “I’ve had my assistant do it, just so I can remain alive and not kill myself. And also, that joke was written by Suli McCullough. But I thank you guys, always, for making sure that I don’t start thievery.”

She went on to say she had taken a lie detector test from Vanity Fair, which included a question about stealing jokes. “… [T]hey asked me, thank God, ‘Have you ever stolen a joke?’ and I said no, and it was ‘that’s true.’ So, everybody just chill. It’s crazy. I’m funny enough, I don’t need to steal s***.”

‘Is This A Prank?’: Nancy Pelosi Reads Poem By Bono To Comfort Afflicted Ukrainians, Leaving Everybody Bewildered

May 11, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) teased on Thursday morning that she would be reading a poem written by Bono for the Ukrainian people at Congress’ annual Friends of St. Patrick luncheon that afternoon. It was seemingly out of the blue and the instant reaction on Twitter was simple: “Why?”

At the luncheon, she read poetry by the lead singer of U2, Bono — who is an Irishman himself. It compared St. Patrick to Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky.

Based on tweets, it seems that “Why?” transformed into more of a “What in the world?” The spectacle was truly bizarre.

As flagged by Greg Price, Pelosi told the media Thursday morning, “I will be reading a poem written by Bono about Ukraine which you might find interesting.”

Many people did, but not for the reasons the speaker may have hoped.

Miranda Devine of the New York Post quipped, “Third in line. 81 years old. Unhinged.”

One Twitter user opined, “Good god this is getting worse every single day. The kabuki theater and virtue signaling from hell. Only war escalation and zero efforts toward peace. This country is lost.”

The phrase ‘Kabuki theater’ is a reference to a form of Japanese dramas, featuring heavy acting and elaborate costumes. The bad news for Americans everywhere is that is isn’t fiction. It was real life. There were dozens, if not hundreds, more mocking Pelosi.

Just prior to introducing River Dance at the luncheon, Pelosi read the poem by Bono. To put it in layman’s terms, it was even more cringe-worthy than one would expect.

“I got this message this morning from Bono,” Pelosi said before reading the rhyme. “Most of us — whether we’re in Ireland or here — Bono has been a very Irish part of our lives,” she added.

The full poem can be found here:

Oh Saint Patrick he drove out the snakes; With his prayers but that’s not all it takes; For the snake symbolizes; An evil that rises; And hides in your heart; As it breaks; And the evil has risen my friends; From the darkness that lives in some men; But in sorrow and fear; That’s when saints can appear; To drive out those old snakes once again; And they struggle for us to be free; From the psycho in this human family; Ireland’s sorrow and pain; Is now the Ukraine; And Saint Patrick’s name now Zelenskyy.

In response, The Federalist’s Ben Domenech tweeted something many readers might be wondering at this point, “Is this a prank? Did someone pretend to be Bono and sent her this?”

— Ben Domenech (@bdomenech) March 17, 2022

But it was not a prank at all. Pelosi was serious.

And it’s not the first time Pelosi has offered an off-key attempt to commemorate something.

On January 6, Pelosi invited the cast of the broadway musical “Hamilton” to preform one of its songs and discuss equity.

That was pretty bizarre, but the poem by Bono may have topped it.

Consider this: on Wednesday, Zelensky asked for a no-fly zone and America to come to Ukraine’s assistance. That would have been the start of World War III, so America sent nearly a billion more dollars in aid to Ukraine instead.

But, Pelosi tacking on a poem by Bono likely did not strike strike any fear into the heart of Russian President Vladimir Putin or inspire the Ukrainian people.

It may have done just the opposite.

Aaron Rodgers Calls Out Government Hypocrisy Over COVID: ‘It’s Becoming a Joke’

May 11, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

There is an argument to be made that part of our pandemic problem isn’t so much about people not following guidelines as about the people enforcing the guidelines on us not following those same guidelines themselves. Many Americans — as they wear a mask and stay six feet away from you as the CDC says — probably agree. Only the most partisan Palo Alto fact-checkers won’t. At least, in my opinion. The argument over lockdowns and corona guidelines can tend to fall on partisan lines. Lately, it feels like a broader group of Americans are speaking up and speaking out or, at the very least, asking questions. Whitney Cummings and Michael Rappaport aren’t exactly what I would call “MAGA.”

Neither is Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. At least, I don’t think. I’ve honestly never thought about his politics as much as how many fantasy points he was going to get me. But what he says on the Pat McAfee Show, I believe many of you reading this might agree.

NFL Star Aaron Rodgers Calls Out Gavin Newsom’s COVID Hypocrisy

Don’t eat out at a restaurant unless you’re wearing a mask and separate; oh, here’s a picture of the governor of California violating those rules. Oh, public schools are closed, but I can send my kids to a private school in person.

For us to count on the government to help us out is becoming a joke at this point.

Americans have been asked to put their lives on hold. Shut down their business, homeschool their children, and not see friends and family. In the beginning, many people went along with the guidelines without asking too many questions. But as the months went on, following guidelines not always being followed by the same people who set those guidelines can strain public trust. I think you’ll see more people speaking out.

Cheers, Aaron Rodgers. I’m going to hate to see the Buffalo Bills shut you down in the Super Bowl this year. FACT CHECK: I’m not going to hate it that much.
