Princess Charlotte steals show as she pulls funny faces at Commonwealth Games – Birmingham Live

August 10, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Princess Charlotte has stolen the show at today’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sat with a grinning Charlotte as they began their day at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre by watching the swimming.

William and Kate arrived on Tuesday shortly after the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children, Lady Louise and James. The duchess was pointing and explaining things to her daughter, while William held one of the official programmes.

The royals were cheering and applauding alongside the crowd for England 1,500m freestyle hopeful Luke Turley. After rolling her eyes following a comment from her father, Charlotte then cracked a smile as Turley’s heat came to a close.

She wore a black and white stripped dress and had her hair in plaited pig tails while her mum looked chic in an all white suit. Royals have been attending different events all week.

But it was Charlotte’s appearance – without her siblings – which captured the public’s attention like no other. The Cambridges attended days after the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, which saw Charles, the Prince of Wales, attend.

Charles said: “On October 7 last year, this specially created Baton left Buckingham Palace to travel across the Commonwealth. Over the past 294 days, it has carried not only my message to you, but also the shared hopes and dreams of each nation and territory through which it has passed, as it made its way to Birmingham.”

Royal fans have been left delighted by Charlotte’s appearance – days after her sweet video message to the Lionesses ahead of the Euro 2022 final at Wembley on Sunday.

George Clooney Calls Trump Girl-Crazy ‘Knucklehead’ – Rolling Stone

August 9, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

George Clooney has said he wouldn’t run for president of the United States because he would rather have a “nice life.”

In an interview with the BBC’s Andrew Marr yesterday (October 10th), the Oscar winner said entering politics does not appeal to him, and instead looks forward to reducing his workload.

Asked if he would ever consider entering politics, he said: “No, because I would actually like to have a nice life.”

“I turned 60 this year and I had a conversation with my wife and we were working a lot, as we both do, and I said we have to think of these as the halcyon years,” he added.

He added that at 60 he can still play basketball and do the things he loves. He recalled telling his wife Amal Clooney that they “have to make sure we enjoy and live these years in the best possible way.”

Clooney is well known for his extensive humanitarian work and support for the Democratic Party, prompting previous speculation that a Presidential run could be on the cards.

He was speaking to Marr about his new coming-of-age film The Tender Bar, which he has directed and stars Ben Affleck.

Clooney also reflected on Donald Trump’s presidency, describing the state of the U.S. as a “battered child”.

Defending Joe Biden’s current low polling numbers, he said: “There’s a lot of things that have to be repaired, there’s a lot of healing that has to happen, and it’s going to take time.”

Speaking about Trump, he said: “It’s so funny, because he was just this knucklehead. I knew him before he was a president. He was just a guy who was chasing girls.”

“Every time you went out he’d be like, ‘What’s the name of that girl?’ That’s all he was.”

George and Amal Clooney attended the U.K. premiere for The Tender Bar at the BFI London Film Festival yesterday.

The film is adapted from journalist J.R. Moehringer’s memoir about growing up without a father, and filling that gap in a Long Island pub with his uncle Charlie (Ben Affleck). Tye Sheridan plays J.R., while the screenplay is penned by The Departed screenwriter William Monahan.

Speaking to PA News at the premiere, Clooney said: “Most of the films I do are pretty dark and this one felt light and it felt like the world was pretty dark so I wanted to work on something that was a little lighter.”

The Tender Bar is slated for release on December 17th, 2021.

‘That Is Hilarious’: Energy Secretary Cackles When Asked About Rising Gasoline Prices | The Daily Caller

August 9, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm laughed out loud when asked during an interview Friday what her plan was to ease gasoline prices nationwide.

“That is hilarious,” Granholm laughed when asked by a Bloomberg anchor. “Would that I had the magic wand on this.”

Granholm then blamed Middle Eastern oil providers, repeating a Biden administration claim that oil prices are largely out of the federal government’s control. Crude oil prices, which are closely linked to both inflation and gasoline prices, surged again Friday after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and Russian producers declined to boost output at President Joe Biden’s request.

Gasoline prices, meanwhile, increased and remained at their highest level since September 2014, according to Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released Monday. The average cost at the pump hit $3.42 per gallon on Friday, up 61.6% compared to one year ago, AAA data showed.

Heating prices for American consumers this winter are also expected to rise as a result of increased energy costs, the federal government said last month. Propane heating costs reached their highest level since 2011 in October and are expected to climb as it gets colder. WATCH:

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has pushed numerous policies and executive actions — including blocking U.S. pipelines, abandoning drilling projects and banning oil and gas leases on federal lands — that have created uncertainty in the fossil fuel industry. The president has pledged to make the U.S. electric grid carbon-free by 2035 and achieve net zero emissions economy-wide by 2050.

Biden’s actions have made the U.S. increasingly dependent on foreign sources of oil, evidenced by his calls for OPEC and Russia to up supply, according to critics. The U.S. has an estimated 47.1 billion barrels of oil reserves nationwide, the EIA said in an annual report in January.

“Millionaire Energy Secretary Granholm laughs as she acknowledges that the Biden regime has put OPEC back in charge of global oil production and soaring prices that are harming non-millionaire Americans. Under President Trump, American frackers were large and in charge of both, and prices were low,” Steve Milloy, a former member of the Trump transition team, said in a statement.

“No US government official has ever thrown up their hands and cackled at Americans being gouged at the pump,” he continued. “Of course, no American President has purposefully gone out of his way to empower OPEC either.”

Kjaer reflects on ‘crazy’ Scudetto: “This is the greatest emotion I’ve ever experienced”

August 9, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Simon Kjaer of AC Milan

By: Oliver Fisher

Simon Kjaer has tried to explain the ‘crazy’ feeling of AC Milan being the champions of Italy and gave an update on his recovery process.

Although he has spent the last few months sidelined after sustaining a knee ligament injury that needed surgery, Kjaer has undoubtedly been a huge contributor to Milan’s rise over the past couple of seasons not only because of his excellent performances but also his leadership and experience in helping a young squad.

The win against Sassuolo on Sunday to seal a 19th Scudetto was the culmination of a two and a half year journey under head coach Stefano Pioli during which there were many turning points and key moments that helped to great a strong and cohesive squad.

Interviewed by the Danish channel TV2 SPORT, Kjaer conveyed his emotions after the Rossoneri lifted the trophy with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“It was crazy! Everyone is so happy. It is very difficult to put into words. It is absolutely amazing to see how much it means to the fans. It’s a fantastic experience,” he said.

On it being his first trophy: “Ehhm… I hope it’s not the last! I’m so proud. I came to Milan two and a half years ago and so many things have happened with the team and how we have improved. Nobody believed we could to become champions this year. We always believed in it. We knew that there was a lot of work to do and that it would be a difficult road. I think it is an incredible feeling what we have inside now.”

On his arrival and that of Ibrahimovic: “Personally, I find it very difficult to praise myself. But one of the things that Milan considered important was to bring a bit of continuity and professionalism to the team, and to understand how much work you will have to put into every single day.

“If you have to do an exercise 20 times and you only do it 18 times you are already behind. This is what we have tried to convey, you have to give 100% every single day. Because if you do it today in the world of football, you will be able to overcome the others. And then also a lot of passion.”

On if the Scudetto is his best moment: “I’ve always had a hard time comparing the national team and the club. They are two completely different things emotionally. But there is no doubt that this is the greatest emotion I’ve ever experienced. I also told the guys in Denmark during the European Championships to have fun while it lasts. There is a bit of chaos, but you can’t be sure you will experience this again.”

On his return to the pitch: “In the last four weeks, my schedule has been organised according to how the weekend game went. What does this mean? It means that I was prepared to play today [against Sassuolo]. I don’t think that the doctors thought the same way. Fortunately for them no one had been injured or quarantined. I would have said that of course I was ready to play. I feel fine!”

‘Crazy journey’: how Wales went from worse than Haiti to World Cup heroes | Wales | The Guardian

August 8, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Eleven years ago Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Wayne Hennessey walked off the pitch at Cardiff City Stadium after a 2-1 friendly defeat by Australia in front of a crowd of 6,373, some of whom resorted to sarcastic cheers. On the face of it, it was hardly the worst result but it was a seventh defeat in eight and, more pertinently, it plunged the team to a record low of 117th in the Fifa rankings, sandwiched between Haiti and Grenada. If it was an unedifying sight for supporters to see Wales slip below Guatemala, the Faroe Islands and Mozambique, it should make qualifying for a first World Cup for 64 years all the more satisfying, if not surreal.

Bale captained Wales to what he called the country’s greatest result against Ukraine, Ramsey went the distance in midfield and the 35-year-old Hennessey, who made two Premier League starts for relegated Burnley in the 2021-22 season, made nine saves – with arguably the best saved for last to deny Artem Dovbyk – in trying conditions. It was fitting that Bale and Hennessey, who have been inseparable since playing together for Wales’ under-21s and will continue their journey on the biggest stage in November, shared the moment, which Robert Page dedicated to the late Gary Speed, who was nine months in the job in August 2011.

Those senior Wales players, as well as Joe Allen and Chris Gunter, the first Welshman to win a century of caps, have, to use Bale’s words, found the final piece of the jigsaw. Page said Wales were reaping the rewards of the professionalism and identity instilled by Speed, who had targeted reaching the 2014 World Cup after taking over from John Toshack. “Gary’s words and his plan was all based around getting to a World Cup,” says the former Wales midfielder Owain Tudur Jones, an unused substitute that day against Australia.

“He had so many goals he wanted to achieve, short term and long term. It has taken a little bit longer than planned but it is almost as if that waiting has made it feel so much better. It is a beautiful thing that there are still players involved in the squad that would have been in those meetings with Tosh originally and certainly with Gary. Those players have been carrying him in their hearts since he passed away.”

It was no surprise that Hennessey and Bale, golf partners for four-balls, roommates and chief pranksters, pitched up together long after the final whistle to put into words the scale of their achievement, with Bale particularly effusive in his praise for Hennessey, describing his display as the “best I’ve ever seen by a goalkeeper”.

“It’s been a crazy journey from where we were to qualify for two European Championships and a World Cup,” Bale says. “It’s literally what dreams are made of, especially for all of us who have been there from the start. We’ve paved the way for the youngsters as well, we’ve welcomed them in and it’s hard to describe what it means to us. We always fight for each other.”

Wayne Hennessey makes one of several fine saves against Ukraine.

Page believes football has overtaken rugby as the national sport. “When I was growing up in Tylorstown, playing rugby was the thing to do, not football, but I think the tides have turned now and I think football has become our No 1 sport,” says Page, who, like Jimmy Murphy, who led Wales to the quarter-finals of the 1958 World Cup, grew up in the Rhondda Valley.

“We’ll always be known for rugby, of course, but this is massive, this is monumental what we have done in qualifying for a World Cup. People like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, those senior players, will go down in history.”

Wales put their compassion for Ukraine to one side for almost 98 minutes to reach a second successive major tournament. They are 19 games unbeaten in Cardiff and since their last home defeat, by Denmark in November 2018, when Paul Dummett was at left-back and Tom Lawrence on the left wing, they have conceded seven goals and kept 12 clean sheets on home turf. Their spirit seems unbreakable.

“This togetherness Wales have now was what we were always envious of,” says Tudur Jones. “We would go to places like Montenegro, a new nation and a good team but you would look at them and think: ‘How are these better than us? On paper, we’ve got better players.’ I think that was the goal back in the day, to get that mentality we now see. It doesn’t matter what level they’re playing or if they’re playing regularly; collectively we are better than people expect us to be. It has taken a little while but this is what Tosh wanted, it’s what Gary saw and thought was possible and now we’re seeing they were spot on.”

Gareth Bale in action for Wales against Australia in the 2011 defeat.

Neville Southall, Hennessey’s goalkeeping hero growing up in Anglesey, has predicted a baby boom as a result of qualification. The giant hoardings on the exterior of the Cardiff City Stadium advertise the “timeless charm” of Vietnam and the sandy beaches of Malaysia, the country of the Championship club’s owner, Vincent Tan, but there is only one destination on the lips of those with Welsh blood. Most of the Wales squad partied into the early hours of Monday at the Elevens bar in the city centre, which is owned by Bale, who is teetotal. They sang along to Shakira’s Waka Waka, the official World Cup song in 2010, reworking the chorus to: “We’re going to Qatar.”
