Well played! Greta Thunberg’s April Fools’ prank is epic trolling

October 26, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

A controversial life-sized bronze sculpture of environmental activist Greta Thunberg has been unveiled by a university after being branded a “vanity project”.

The statue of the “inspirational” Swedish climate change protester has been created by the University of Winchester to reflect its values on “sustainability and social justice”.

But the Winchester University and College Union (UCU) posted a motion of censure on social media calling the sculpture a “vanity project” and stating the £24,000 cost should have been spent on preventing redundancies and cuts following a period of sustainability at the Hampshire university.

It added: “To be clear: our concerns are about the expenditure and transparency of decision making by the university, which have long been opaque, not the subject of the statue.”

April Fools

Ignoring that argument Greta Thunberg pulled off another perfect piece of trolling on Thursday, with a classic April Fools’ joke.

The teenage activist Tweeted that she had created a video on YouTube where she would detail some of the small things we could all do to stop the climate crisis.

“We are in this together, and everyone is needed. YOU get to decide what future you’ll live in. So please watch, share and start doing your part today,” alongside a generic stock image of climate.

I made a video where I talk about some small things we ALL can and should do to stop the climate crisis.

Predicting a stream of abuse from adults claiming to know better than her, she fooled a lot of people as the link actually sent you to Rick Astley’s 80’s classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ music video.

Basically Thunberg ‘Rickrolled’ the entire internet.

Reactions

A lot of people didn’t bother to click on the link and just spouted off without checking what she had to say.

1.

I’d prefer to live in the future with a stable electric grid, low energy prices, warm house at winter and a lot of cheap meat.

2.

the problem my little girl, is this … small things will not help a lot when we keep growing with 83 million per year. pic.twitter.com/BG2svDyNE2

3.

I just ripped a huge fart, which increased my carbon footprint tremendously! I’m so sorry about that, Greta!

4.

So by watching sharing and tweeting! We all would do our part? Is that going to reduce global warming and climate change?

— shiva (@shivavytla) April 1, 2021

5.

Gerta, If the earth is heating up, why did I have to scrape snow off my car this morning?

But those who took the time to click the link found it highly amusing.

1.

Greta Rick Rolled I Just Can’t 😂😂😂😂

2.

Greta, you Rick Rolled me and you’ve made my kids day. I was just watching him play with the Foo fighters the other day. So when I clicked I genuinely thought it kept going to one of my old searches 😂👌🏼@GretaThunberg you’re a legend. Never knew about Rick Rolling 🤭

Crazy: Icelandair’s Amsterdam Flights Now Carry Their Own Baggage Handlers

October 26, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

The ongoing short-staffing crisis at various airports in Europe has been well reported by Simple Flying over recent months. However, airlines are now desperate to find a way to avoid the chaos. To that end, one such attempt comes from Icelandair, which has been sending baggage handlers as additional crew members on all flights to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS), one of the worst affected by staffing problems.

Adding baggage handlers to the crew

The Icelandic carrier has devised a clever solution for a problem that looks like it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. According to Iceland’s national news agency Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), the airline has been sending two baggage handlers as part of the flight crew on all Amsterdam-bound services since last weekend.

SIMPLEFLYING VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ásdís Ýr Pétursdóttir, Icelandair’s information officer told RÚV,

“We have also been sending people ourselves out to smooth over the bag problems that have come up. Since last Friday, we have added two bag handlers to our crew to Amsterdam to speed things up and keep planes on time.”

Indeed, Icelandair has been ferrying baggage handlers on all its flights to AMS on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The carrier has also decided to continue doing so on all flights to AMS throughout this week.

Icelandair has two daily services to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport from its hub at Keflavík International Airport (KEF) near the capital city of Reykjavík. Flights FI 500 and FI 506 take off from KEF at 0740 and 1105 hours, respectively. The former is operated using the Boeing 767, while flight 506 uses the much more modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Another option

While Iceland decided to fly its own baggage handlers, other airlines took a different approach. As Simple Flying reported a couple of weeks ago, some airlines have decided to ditch Schiphol Airport altogether and move their operations to smaller Dutch airports nearby. As the disruptions got increasingly severe with each passing day, more airlines followed suit and took their business elsewhere. This action came after the airport’s management capped the maximum number of passengers during the summer period.

Unlike these airlines, Icelandair’s solution stands out as it allows the carrier to continue its operations smoothly. But how long can the carrier keep this up?

The airline said it will reassess the situation at the end of this week to decide if it needs to fly its own baggage handlers on other routes as well. Photo: Vincenzo Pace | Simple Flying

Ásdís says,

“We will have to see how it develops and whether we carry this on, and even maybe to other destinations. As I say, we are trying to find ways to reduce the effects of these delays and minimise disruption to the journeys of our passengers.”

For now, Icelandair will continue flying its own baggage handlers to Amsterdam for at least this week. The airline said it would reassess the situation at the end of the week and take an appropriate decision for the future. In the meantime, Icelandair is encouraging passengers to arrive at airports early and be prepared for delays in all baggage-related activities.

Simple Flying will be at the Farnborough Airshow next week. For all the latest news from the show click here!

Nick Saban tells hilarious dating story about wife Miss Terry

October 26, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

It may appear as if everything comes easily to Alabama head coach Nick Saban and that at the end of the day he always finds a way to win. But not every Saban performance was as consistent as his football teams, in fact, there was one area of his life in which he suffered multiple consecutive losses.

Or in this case… rejections.

A video of Saban highlighting a story behind his dating life with now-wife Miss Terry has gone viral online once again.

The seven-time national champion shared the story during a speech he gave at an event run by the American Football Coaches Association.

The story he shared included multiple failings of getting Miss Terry to notice him or date him and a more than decade-long rivalry with a man named Mickey Schaffer.

Check out the full story below.

Ways To Make Your Baby Laugh And Why It’s Important

Ways To Make Your Baby Laugh And Why It’s Important

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on the planet, especially when you have an infant who needs you to look after all their needs. There’s the endless sleepless nights, feeding sessions, diaper changes and doctors appointments. It’s enough to make your head spin. But the only reason you’d go to such lengths and revamp your entire lifestyle is because you want the best for your baby. Every precious moment with them, no matter how exhausting, is also fulfilling. And there are fewer joys in life than listening to your baby’s laugh for the first time. Your baby’s happiness is your own, so obviously you want to keep them giggling and laughing throughout the day. Not to mention that those little chuckles are just so stinking cute! But did you know that it is also a milestone? Although you wouldn’t consider it at first, laughing is an important milestone for babies as this is their first step to communicating with you. So if you want to know when your baby might start laughing and how to ensure that they never stop, put on your reading glasses and read on!

When Will Your Baby Start Smiling And Laughing?

When Will Your Baby Start Smiling And Laughing

Image: Shutterstock

Unfortunately this differs from baby to baby as they all have their own development timeline. But if you start to see your baby smile regularly, their first laugh is right around the corner! Your baby will start to smile earlier on, sometimes even when they are just a couple of weeks old. Maybe it’s because they recognize you or when they’ve dozed off after a good feeding. It’s very normal. They could also simply be experimenting with their mouth muscles and learning how to move them and what your reaction might be. But once they start to smile deliberately and make noises like cooing, their first laugh won’t be far off. You are most likely to hear your baby chuckle or giggle around the 3 to 5 month mark, which then evolves into a full on belly laugh at 6 months (1).

How To Make Your Baby Laugh

Just like human beings, babies are more susceptible to laughing at some moments than others. So, here’s what you can do to get the giggles going:

1. Touches

Touches

The most obvious tactic to make anyone laugh is to simply tickle them. And although it will make your baby squeal and giggle when they are older, it’s not the best technique for now. Try out a few other touches instead. You can give them gentle nose kisses or play the trumpet on their tummy. This will definitely get a few angelic chuckles out of them.

2. Employ The Use Of Silly Sounds

By the time your baby is brought into the world, they are already familiar with your voice. But using different pitches and tones can get them excited and can elicit a giggle from them. Why do you think baby talk works so well? Make silly noises after you give your baby a bath or when they change for bedtime. Your baby will most likely think you’re the funniest person on earth. Funny singing and engaging in nursery rhymes also helps. Make distinct noises that fit in with them. Like the falling down sound in “Humpty Dumpty” or the washing sound in “Itsy-Bitsy Spider” when you wash the spider out. Your baby will pay attention and giggle when you are animated.

3. Play Games

Play Games

No we don’t mean strategic games or board games like monopoly! As far as we know, these games have never made anyone laugh. But there are some games that can guarantee to get a laugh out of your baby and you won’t even have to clean up afterwards! Playing games like peek-a-boo or pat-a-cake will do the job. Emphasizing different words every time you play will keep your baby laughing throughout the game. However it is important to keep in mind that babies are just people. Very little people but still people. Which means that if they are tired or feeling fussy and agitated, your efforts may not be a success. Sometimes your baby just doesn’t want to laugh and you’ve got to respect that.

Why Is Laughing Important And Why Is It A Milestone?

Laughing is one of your baby’s developmental milestones. However some babies are naturally more giggly than others. As long as your baby is hitting other developmental milestones, you have nothing to worry about. But if they don’t react to any cooing noises, don’t take an interest in their environment and don’t keep eye contact, consult your pediatrician. But don’t worry, this is rare. Your baby should be laughing in no time.

Now that you know exactly how to keep your baby smiling and laughing, you’ll get to hear that magical sound whenever you want. Do you have any favorite memories of your baby’s first laugh? Let us know in the comments!
