Ticketmaster, Live Nation Are A Joke. Break Up Their Monopoly.

December 11, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Taylor Swift blasted into the headlines last week, but not for the reason you’d think.

The singer ripped Ticketmaster for a debacle over the sale of concert tickets for her new tour, which completely crashed at one point and led to scalpers posting tickets for upwards of $50,000.

The whole thing was a fustercluck. First, fans had to sign up for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program just for a chance to score tickets. But even those fans hit error messages and long waits. Then, when they were finally able to buy tickets, the system wouldn’t accept their presale code or credit card information.

Eventually, Ticketmaster was forced to cancel the sale, claiming it had experienced “historically unprecedented demand.”

“It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them,” Swift said in a social media post.

Buying tickets nowadays to concerts or sporting event borders on the criminal. Ticketmaster and Live Nation own many of the venues and have the exclusive right for ticket sales. Me, I think they also cash in via the secondhand market for tickets, like StubHub and SeatGeek, where tickets with a face value of $35 often sell for hundreds, even thousands of dollars (but there’s no evidence of that).

I feel sad for the young people of today. Going to catch a National Football League game for a family of four costs at least a thousand dollars (and that’s just for decent seats, not front row on the 50-yard line). And catching your favorite band often costs a couple hundred dollars — assuming you don’t get the tickets the minute they go on sale (a rare accomplishment these days).

Back in my day, tickets costs next to nothing. I saw The Rolling Stones back in 1975, shortly after they released their now classic album, “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll.” The ticket cost $9.50. Sure, that’s $51.01 in today’s dollars, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, but it ain’t hundreds of thousands.

When I caught the Stones in Philly last year (they didn’t play D.C. and I’ve seen them in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s so I needed a 20s show), I paid more than $600 for after-market tickets (and again, just for decent seats). And don’t get me started on the endless fees (a service fee, facility charge, order processing fee, and that absurdly named “convenience” fee), which sometimes cost as much as the ticket.

Let’s take the upcoming Rod Wave concert at the Capital One Center in D.C. Tickets in a nosebleed section about as far away as you can be from the stage run $158.75, so that’s $317.50 for a pair. But then this:

  • Service Fee: $24.10 x 2 = $48.20
  • Facility Charge: $4.00 x 2 = $8.00
  • Order Processing Fee = $6.00

Total, $379.70. Want to actually see him? A pair of seats down on the floor (not front row, mind you) will cost you nearly $840.

Finally, someone’s going do something about this mess (watch this video for more insight).

“The Justice Department has opened an antitrust investigation into the owner of Ticketmaster, whose sale of Taylor Swift concert tickets descended into chaos this week, said two people with knowledge of the matter,” The New York Times reported over the weekend. “The investigation is focused on whether Live Nation Entertainment has abused its power over the multibillion-dollar live music industry.”

“That power has been in the spotlight after Ticketmaster’s systems crashed while Ms. Swift fans were trying to buy tickets in a presale for her tour, but the investigation predates the botched sale, the people said,” the Times said.

Live Nation defended itself in a statement.

“The concert promotion business is highly competitive, with artist management in control of selecting their promoting team. The demand for live entertainment continues to grow, and there are more promoters than ever working with artists to help them connect with fans through live shows. The Department of Justice itself recognized the competitive nature of the concert promotion business at the time of the Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger. That dynamic has not changed,” Live Nation said.

Back in my day, if you wanted tickets, you had to go to the ticket seller and buy them. That seemed to work. And some bands have figured out ways to sell tickets to their fans at a reasonable price (in their heyday, Fall Out Boy played the small 930 Club venue in D.C. and concertgoers had to present ID and the credit card they used to get the tickets, but then had to go straight in, thus no resale of tickets at all).

Let’s hope the DOJ actually follows through on its probe, but most likely, nothing will happen. And that’s just sad.

No joke, it’s seriously not funny | The Star

December 11, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

KUALA LUMPUR: The woman who courted controversy during her stand-up performance at a comedy club has been roundly criticised for putting on a religion-laced act that was not funny.

Malaysia’s two best known comedians, Harith Iskander and Douglas Lim, made it clear that the woman’s act did not reflect stand-up comedy.

Harith said the actions of a woman who took off her headscarf and baju kurung on stage at a comedy club was “painful to watch”.

“More importantly, there was nothing funny about what she said or did.”

In the 54-second-long video, the woman unexpectedly starts taking off her headscarf and baju kurung, revealing a mini skirt and spaghetti-strap blouse underneath, before yelling out a greeting with an expletive to the audience.

The Tiktok video ended without showing the rest of her act.

Harith said not all stand-up comedy was funny to everyone, as each person has different tastes, leading some to feel offended by certain jokes.

He said, however, that he judged it by the intention of the comedian, and the aim of stand-up comedy was to make people laugh.

“Her intention was to shock and offend. And she has shocked and offended.

“Therefore, she was not doing stand-up comedy,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lim described the woman’s actions as irresponsible.

“The ‘performer’ (if I can call her that) intended to shock, insult, and enrage, and I consider it an act of sabotage by an irresponsible person,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page yesterday.

Lim also came out in support of the Crackhouse Comedy Club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, saying the controversial performance seen in the viral video was an exception rather than the rule.

“The Crackhouse is not a breeding ground for such rude performances as it is a place where budding comedians and professionals try their best to tell jokes to make people laugh.

“They have been operating there for eight years and I have performed there many times, but I have never seen anything like this before,” he said.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the comedy club said the individual in question and her partner were banned from the venue immediately following the performance.

“The Crackhouse Comedy Club strongly condemns the contents of a now-viral TikTok video showing an individual allegedly insulting Islam during an open mic show on our premises,” it said in the post yesterday.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the woman had been remanded for three days and was currently being held at the Brickfields police headquarters.

The case is being investigated by the Bukit Aman Special Investigation Unit under the Penal Code for causing disunity and spurring hatred among the people, as well as under the Communications and Multimedia Act for misusing network facilities.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) conducted their own preliminary investigation into the viral video of the woman’s routine, which allegedly insulted Islam.

Jawi director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail said the preliminary investigation was carried out by its enforcement division.

Under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997, those found guilty of insulting or causing contempt against Islam can be fined up to RM3,000 or imprisoned for up to two years, or both.

Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the government would not tolerate any activities deemed offensive to sensitivities on reli-gion, race and the country’s sovereignty.

“DBKL has conducted further investigations into the licence of the premises concerned and taken immediate action to temporarily suspend its operations,” he said in a statement.

3-Year-Old Creates Hilarious Live Version of Slow-Motion Run to Home Base

December 11, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

This adorable little boy is ready for the big leagues in baseball, but it’s not because he’s miraculously got the skills of a professional baseball player at such a young age. Lennox Salcedo is ready for the MLB because he has already merely perfected his slow motion run to home plate, with no need for video effects in any way.

When Lennox Salcedo was just 3-years-old, he was ready on third base for his next move in his little league baseball game. When his coach suddenly told him to run as hard as he could from his position on third base to home plate, the little kid had his own idea of how truly fast he should get there.

A Slow Motion Mess

Everyone in the Walnut Valley PONY little league baseball game in California erupted in laughter. They all watched little Lennox start running to home plate, but they were laughing because he wasn’t exactly sprinting there. In fact, he was doing the complete opposite. Lennox was doing his own version of a slow-mo run. As if someone put a slow-motion video effect on what should’ve been a sprint to home base.

Although Lennox’s mom was out of town, Lennox’s father is seen trying to persuade and encourage the little boy to pick up the pace halfway to home. Leah Espinoza, the team mom, captured Lennox shooing his father off on video. While he simply chose to finish his little slo-mo video montage. And his father backs off quickly to let Lennox enjoy the glory.

Lennox’s cousin, Tabby Rodriguez, posted the eventual viral video on Twitter, and it was trending with almost 10 million views. She told TODAY, “He was definitely trying to put on a show for everyone,” inferring that maybe Lennox is ready for the big time, as he’s already won the hearts of the crowd.

Run, Kid, Run

If any of you need a laugh, the coach told my cousin to run home as fast as he can and he delivered pic.twitter.com/VpBBzIEtzf

Lennox’s mother, Sabrina Salcedo also told TODAY, “He is definitely a character,” unsurprised at her son’s choices. “The third base coach asked him to run fast to home plate, and Lennox gave him a thumbs up. And this is what he did.”

Well, at least when we see a real life slo-mo run to home base in the MLB in a few years, we will know that little Lennox made it.

Jordan Leavitt finds it funny that homophobic UFC fans keep sending him dick pics | BJPenn.com

December 10, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Jordan Leavitt is definitely one of the more unique fighters on the UFC lightweight roster. He’s built a solid following of fans (and haters) off his tendency to dance and twerk in the cage following his victories. In the macho world of cage fighting, this sticks out. And it’s generated more than it’s fair share of homophobic feedback.

Leavitt – who has been married to his wife Ashlie for three years – revealed that some users on social media have taken to sending him not just gay slurs but penis pictures as well.

“Now when people tell me I’m gay and they send me penis pictures,” Leavitt said on the Wah-Gwaan podcast. “Which I think is ‘pretty gay.’ If you say a guy is gay, how is you sending your penis to me showing me that I’m … I don’t know.”

“If you heart it, they may have proof,” fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis suggested. “If you send a heart back, it’s like ‘Gotcha!’ That’s the trick.”

This by far is one of the funniest episodes ever recorded on Wah-Gwaan with Ode’ Osbourne. #Wahgwaan#Podcast pic.twitter.com/bHTFAVVVRM

“Maybe a little microscope emoji, like what is that?” Leavitt joked. “I just let it roll off my back, I think it’s funny, you know?”

“I’m not masculine. I’m not macho. I don’t fit the whole fighter persona. But I read the message, I’m sad about it for a second, then I go home and lay down with my wife. That’s how I do it.”

Jordan Leavitt is 3-2 in the UFC (10-2 MMA) but hasn’t fought since a second round submission loss to Paddy Pimblett at the UFC’s big London event in July. Given the size and passion of Pimblett’s fanbase, we imagine the negative attention being cast his way has only increased tenfold since that fight.

Pimblett fans certainly didn’t make ‘The Monkey King’ feel at home in the UK on fight week.

“London was a bit lackluster,” Leavitt said shortly after the fight. “I expected hostility and I got more hostility than I bargained for. Yeah, I was very surprised by the negativity, it was so bad that it was funny. Like, I couldn’t help but think it was completely ridiculous because I was like ‘Yo, he’s just 2-0 in the UFC and you guys don’t even know me. Why are you so die hard over this, man?’”

It’s too bad that any fighter that shows off a less than hyper-masculine vibe gets attacked so much. You’d hope MMA fans would be more welcoming of different personalities, and we’d like to think most are. It’s hopefully just a small vocal minority that likes to take the discourse into the gutter, and an even smaller group sending dick pics.

With the size of the sport these days, though, even a fraction of a percent acting badly can generate deafening noise in a fighter’s social media mentions and DMs.

Daniel Craig recalled a “very funny” joke that the Queen once made to him in private.

On Thursday (8 September), the Royal Family announced that the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral, aged 96.

The James Bond star was one of the first celebrities to pay tribute to the late royal. Elton John, Janet Jackson, and Victoria Beckham are among the others to have remembered the Queen following news of her death.

Prior to her death, earlier this year, Craig recalled meeting the Queen when they filmed a funny sketch together for the 2012 London Olympics.

During an appearance on The Late Show, the actor said that the 95-year-old is “very funny, wants to crack a joke, and crack a joke about me”.

Craig added: “We were having our photograph taken, and she just went, ‘Oh no, he’s the one that doesn’t smile.’”

Host Stephen Colbert asked Craig what the Queen’s pet corgis were like.

“I was rolling around on the floor with them most of the time,” said the actor. “I mean, they’re just there. I think they have their own footmen. They’re very friendly.”

In December 2021, Craig was awarded the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in the New Year’s Honours List, an honour typically given to diplomats and spies.

It is the same honour given to his character James Bond, whom he played since 2006 until last year’s No Time to Die.

(BBC)

The honour bestowed on Craig recognises service in a foreign country, or in relation to foreign and Commonwealth affairs, such as the work of diplomats overseas.

The fictional spy has a CMG in Ian Fleming’s books as well as their film adaptations.
