Michael B. Jordan Portrays an Unhinged Jake From State Farm in Funny and Subversive ‘SNL’ Sketch – Variety

February 3, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Michael B. Jordan donned a State Farm polo for a hilarious “Saturday Night Live” video short as not-so-good neighbor Jake, who first shows up to demonstrate the insurance company’s app for a family and then refuses to leave.

Jordan’s Jake first shows up to help the family file a claim to fix their toilet after their daughter clogs it with stuffed animals, and then he slowly becomes a part of the family unit.

As the father, played by Mikey Day, comes home to discover State Farm is “here for you 24/7” and Jake is still there playing with the kids, Day is stuck making a sandwich while his family gets pizza with the studly insurance spokesman. Jake then continues to assimilate into the family unit, bringing Gardner and the kids to church on Sunday morning, causing a fight between the two spouses.

Slowly but surely, Day is phased out of his family, as Jake plays with his kids, throwing the football with his son, now wearing the State Farm polo, hits on his wife, and moves all of his State Farm wardrobe into the closet.

Day tries to scheme a way to rid the family of the visitor by googling Geico, but Jake shows up in the shadows, whispering that it won’t be so easy, because State Farm matches rates. Jake then taunts Day with a sinister voice, saying, “Save more when you bundle home and auto.”

In a drunken stupor, Day mourns he loss of his family to Jake, drunkenly singing “Like A Good Neighbor, State Farm is There.”

“He took everything,” he exclaims, before attempting to jump over a bridge.

Then, out of nowhere, he is saved by insurance mascots LiMu Emu and Doug, from Liberty Mutual.

‘You found it offensive, we all found it funny’: Firm forced to take down billboard poke fun at ‘the offended’ in new advert – Manchester Evening News

February 2, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

An artificial grass company forced to take down an ‘inappropriate’ billboard by the advertising watchdog has returned with a new poster poking fun at the ‘offended’.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) – the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media – forced Oldham-based Great Grass MCR Ltd to take down a billboard in November last year after ruling it ‘objectified and stereotyped women as sexual objects’.

The poster, situated on a busy junction in Hollinwood, where Oldham Road meets the M60 motorway, featured a headline stating the company were ‘Artificial Grarse Experts’. Underneath the text was an image of a woman wearing only a thong with text which states: “Perfect 365 days a year…Get laid by the best.”

The ASA’s investigation, which was sparked by complaints, found the poster to be ‘irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence’. At the time, the local company said in response that the advertisement was a ‘bit of light-hearted fun and not intended to offend anyone’.

Having taken the poster down, the Oldham company has now replaced it with a new billboard ‘apologising’ to those who found the previous message offensive. In reference to the ASA complaints, the new headline states ‘Apologies to the offended 4’.

“You found it offensive, we all found it funny,” the poster adds. The billboard then features an angry face emoji followed by the number four alongside a laughing face emoji next to 40,000,000.

“Just because you’re offended, doesn’t mean you’re right,” the ad continued. The advertisement ended with a promotional offer for people to quote ‘not offended’ to receive 10% off their next order.

Speaking to the M.E.N, Great Grass MCR Ltd said the original billboard had been up for months before a complaint was first made, but said the overall reaction had been great for business.

What do you think? Have your say in our comments below.

“It had been up for three months before it received three complaints,” owner Mike Allen said. “We’ve had that billboard spot for five years and no one has ever seen it but now that people have complained, everyone’s seen it.

“It was never meant to be offensive and we’ve had thousands of comments telling us they found it funny. It’s been shared around the world and featured in loads of newspapers.”

Mike said he had originally considered featuring a topless man in the new advert, but ultimately decided to poke fun at the complaints instead.

The latest Great Grass billboard has jokingly responded to complaints made about the firm's previous poster

He explains: “I was just going to go back to doing a normal poster but then I thought, I’ll just say what everyone has said to us that they found it funny. It’s like Ricky Gervais said, just because someone finds something offensive doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right.”

Mike said the new poster has received a great response and he intends to keep the tongue-in-cheek messages coming.

“In the end, it’s had a positive effect on us and it’s worked out in our favour,” he added. “We’ve turned it on its head and it’s been the best thing to happen to us.

“In this day and age, with what’s going on in Ukraine and this country, there’s a million and one other things that we should all be worrying about instead.”

Eddie Murphy Accepts His Golden Globe Honor and Tells a Will Smith Slap Joke

Hollywood icon Eddie Murphy received the esteemed Cecil B. DeMille Award at this year’s Golden Globes ceremony. The actor, comedian, and previous Golden Globe winner accepted the honor Tuesday night, presented by Tracy Morgan and Jamie Lee Curtis, thanking the HFPA, as well as his partner, Paige Butcher, and his 10 kids – Eric, 33, Bria, 33, Christian, 32, Myles, 30, Shayne, 28, Zola, 23, Bella, 20, Angel, 15, Izzy, 6, and Max, 4 – for their “love, support, and inspiration.”

“I’ve been in show business for 46 years, and I’ve been in the movie business for 41 years. So this has been a long time in the making,” he said. Murphy kept his acceptance speech brief, jokingly saying, “I could literally stand up here and keep saying ‘thank you’ till they play the piano.” However, he did leave a word of advice for other stars – and concluded with a hell of a punchline.

“To all the new up-and-coming dreamers and artists that are in the room tonight, I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind,” he said. “I followed it my whole career. It’s very simple, it’s three things, just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f*cking mouth!”

“Abbott Elementary” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Win Big at the Golden Globes

According to Variety, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has been presented to honorees since 1952, acknowledging talented individuals for their “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” However, the award wasn’t handed out last year as the Globes were boycotted by talent, media, and creatives over a lack of diversity at the HFPA (at the time, it didn’t have any Black members) and other issues.

Murphy now joins past awardees who include Jane Fonda (2021), Tom Hanks (2020), Jeff Bridges (2019), Oprah Winfrey (2018), Meryl Streep (2017), and Denzel Washington (2016). And his honor couldn’t have come at a better time as the 61-year-old star is stepping back into his acting bag for Netflix’s “You People” rom-com, directed by Kenya Barris, which stars Jonah Hill, Nia Long, Lauren London, and other familiar faces. Murphy’s next film project was also recently announced: a forthcoming Prime Video holiday flick titled “Candy Cane Lane,” which he’ll star in alongside Tracee Ellis Ross.

To many, Murphy is beloved for his iconic filmography that includes everything from the Beverly Hills Cop, Nutty Professor, and Shrek franchises to classics like “Coming to America” (which got a sequel in 2021), “Boomerang,” “Harlem Nights,” and “Dreamgirls,” which earned him a best supporting actor Oscar nomination and Golden Globe. Most recently, the icon starred in 2019’s “Dolemite Is My Name” as Rudy Ray Moore, another feature that earned him a Golden Globe nod.

Between his legendary comedy and acting talents, Murphy is, indeed, an icon deserving of his latest honor. Watch his Golden Globes speech ahead.
