Fans laugh at Anthony Gordon as £45million ace air-balls ’embarrassing’ attempted shot against Man City in first Newcastle start
Anthony Gordon arrived at Newcastle in January as one of the Premier League’s most exciting youngsters, but had a full debut to forget.
The opening moments of his first start for the Magpies would see him make a hilarious error, and rival fans couldn’t help but laugh.

Gordon signed from Everton at the beginning of the year in a £45million deal and was handed his first ever start for the Magpies in their huge clash at Man City.
He was through on goal inside the opening ten minutes and had a chance to get a shot away, but got the timing of his strike all wrong and completely missed the ball.
Former striker Dean Ashton believes it was a big chance for Gordon to make his mark as he still searches for his first Newcastle goal.
He told talkSPORT live from the Etihad Stadium: “This is a half-chance for Gordon but just as he’s about to strike it’s that really embarrassing one as he plants his foot and takes a wild swipe.
“It’s embarrassing and also an opportunity missed. That’s a half-chance.”
Gordon went up against Kyle Walker for most of the first-half, and Ashton hinted that the youngster could be low on confidence – especially after that early air-ball.

Heading into the break, he said: “Gordon doesn’t even attempt to take on Walker, not even a thought of trying to have a go at him.
“He receives the ball, takes a touch and plays it backwards. He obviously doesn’t back himself.”
The hour-mark came and went and still Gordon had made no progress against Walker on the left wing.
“They may as well bring Gordon off,” said Ashton. “He’s not adding anything to the game.”
Lo and behold, the winger was benched on 62 minutes by boss Eddie Howe and replaced by fan-favourite Allan Saint-Maximin.

Before the clash, Gordon could be seen speaking to former Newcastle and Everton boss Rafa Benitez on the touchline at the Etihad.
It’s clear the winger is still trying to adapt to life at his new club, with Benitez being a favourite amongst the Toon fanbase.
But it appears any advice or words of encouragement he was given by the Spaniard didn’t really work, as he endured a tame afternoon on his first start for the Toon.
Fans will be hoping to see more from their £45m man in future games, but rival supporters couldn’t pass up the chance to have a laugh at his expense.

Question Time audience erupts in laughter as Douglas Ross defends Liz Truss | The National
People across the Musselburgh audience laughed as the Moray MP tried to explain his position.
“Look, I want the Conservatives to win every election.”
Panel host Fiona Bruce pointed out that Ross had made the claim “with quite a smile” on his face. Some polls currently have Labour more than 20 points ahead of the Tories, with Truss’s personal approval ratings at a dismal level just weeks into her premiership.
“I can just imagine what you’d say, Fiona, if I said no,” Ross went on.
The MSP and part-time linesman repeated that he “wants” Truss to win the next General Election, before being told the question was “will” she win it.
“Sorry, I thought you said do you want to,” he told the audience member. “Look, we’re a long way out from the next Election, the opinion polls right now are very difficult for the party.”
Again asked if Truss will win an election, he repeated: “Yes. I did say yes, right at the top.”
Douglas Ross appeared on Question Time from Musselburgh
Ross went on: “I think we can get the economy back up and running again, we can help people, clearly Anas thinks Keir Starmer can win the next election, clearly John Swinney thinks if the Supreme Court doesn’t go his way then the SNP can win a de-facto referendum.”
The political panel show saw Ross joined by Deputy First Minister John Swinney, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, musician Stuart Murdoch and political journalist Isabel Hardman.
The Scottish Tory leader said Truss has not had the start to her leadership she “was looking for”, but he thinks it is “right that the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have reflected on that”.
He said: “One of the big issues (was) that there clearly wasn’t any support in the markets, and we saw the impact that had was on the 45p tax rate, and I think it was right last week that that was reversed.
“But I think it’s also right that we look at the positive impacts of the growth plan, which was to help people with heating bills. Before that was announced, people were facing bills of £5000 to £6000 a year. It’s now capped at £2500. I know that’s still very high – too much for a lot of people.
“But it’s the help that the Government have put in there that is important to families, to businesses, to communities right across Scotland and the whole UK, and I think that’s vital.”
Crowd erupts in laughter at Russia’s top diplomat after he claimed the Ukraine war ‘was launched against us’

- A crowd laughed at Russia’s top diplomat when he said the Ukraine war “was launched against us.”
- An audience member at India’s G20 summit shouted, “Come on!” at Sergey Lavrov during the event.
- He was answering a question about Russia’s energy strategy moving forward.
Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s top diplomat and a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Thursday at a conference in India that the war in Ukraine “was launched against us,” prompting the crowd to erupt into laughter.
Lavrov was a speaker at India’s G20 Summit in New Delhi, leading a session that was part of a “Raisina Dialogue 2023” series. He was in discussion with Sunjoy Joshi, the chair of the Observer Research Foundation in India, and took questions from the audience.
One audience member asked Lavrov: “How the war has affected Russia’s strategy on energy, and will it mark a privilege toward Asia? And if it does, how is India going to feature in it?”
“You know, the war, which we are trying to stop, which was launched against us, using the…” Lavrov began, before being cut off by loud laughter from the crowd.
“…The Ukrainian people, uh, of course, influenced…” Lavrov tried again, before being cut off by more laughter and a shout of, “Come on!” from the crowd.
He went on to say that the war has influenced the energy policy in Russia and that they “would not rely on any partners” going forward.

Contrary to Lavrov’s claim, Russia launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and sparked the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
The Kremlin has offered an array of justifications for the invasion, including the assertion that Ukraine is led by neo-Nazis. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is Jewish and lost family during the Holocaust.
Russia has also blamed NATO, suggesting that the alliance’s expansion provoked the conflict. But Ukraine is not a NATO member and was not on track to join the alliance when Russia invaded.
Experts widely agree that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine out of a desire to restore Russia as an imperial power. Putin, who once described the collapse of the Soviet Union as the “greatest geopolitical catastrophe” of the 20th century, has likened himself to Peter the Great while defending Russia’s assault on Ukraine.
The Russian leader has falsely claimed that Ukraine is not a real country, offering a distorted view of history to vindicate Russia’s brutal campaign to subjugate its next-door neighbor.
The Russian Empire controlled much of Ukraine before later making it part of the Soviet Union. But Ukrainians in 1991 overwhelmingly voted for independence from the USSR, making it clear that they did not want to be subservient to Moscow.
Russia has been condemned around the world for invading Ukraine, and faces widespread allegations of war crimes.
