YouTuber Shot After Playing Prank On Stranger At Virginia Mall Who ‘Didn’t Take It Very Well’

April 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

21-year-old Tanner Cook was filming a prank video on Sunday, April 2 in the Dulles Town Center shopping mall in Sterling, Virginia when he was allegedly shot in the abdomen by Alan Colie.

The bullet caused damage to Cook’s stomach and liver and he is currently in intensive care, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Cook posts his videos to his YouTube channel, Classified Goons, which focuses on Jackass-style practical jokes. But unlike Jackass where the cast pranked each other, Cook played his jokes on random people in public without their consent.

The nature of the prank Cook and his friends were trying to film has not been disclosed, but past pranks have included things such as pretending to urinate in public, pretending to be a Target employee in a store he doesn’t work in, pretending to vomit in a rideshare vehicle and asking strangers to play “naked twister.”

Cook and his friends film bystanders’ reactions to these pranks and upload the resulting videos.

It is not uncommon for the people filmed to be obviously and visibly upset by the pranks or the fact they’re being filmed.

Cook said of the incident:

“I was playing a prank, a simple practical joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well and shot me.”

Cook’s father, Jeremy Cook, described what he knew of the incident.

“They were making a video at the mall and trying to have fun with people and this guy wasn’t having fun. There was a phone that was around him and they were interviewing or talking to him, and he didn’t like it and he pulled out his gun and shot my son.

The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office said that Cook and Colie did not know each other prior to the shooting in a statement, and said that they are still investigating exactly what led up to the shooting.

Colie was found after the shooting sitting in the food court with what is most likely the gun used to shoot Cook.

The shooting reportedly caused quite a panic at the mall, which was closed for the remainder of the weekend and reopened Monday morning.

You can view WUSA9’s coverage of the incident and interviews with Cook and his family below:

However after reviewing Cook’s previous videos, people were less than sympathetic.

Colie has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting in commission of a felony, and discharging firearms within an occupied building in relation to the shooting.

He appeared in court on April 3 for arraignment via video call and is due back in court on May 3 for his preliminary hearing. He is being held without bond at the Loudon County Adult Detention Center until that hearing.

Cook told WUSA9 he plans to return to filming prank videos once he is recovered because it is his “passion.”

Social Media Prank Left California Mom Of Twins Hospitalized

April 12, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

A new mom was left hospitalized after teens targeted her in what authorities are calling a “social media trend.”

On Sunday, March 26, Lana Clay-Monaghan, 35, was enjoying a rare moment to herself in the aisle of a Target three miles way from her home in Tustin, California. After giving birth to twin boys eight months ago, she says a quick trip to her favorite store felt like “going on vacation.”

“I was excited because summer is coming and I get to buy everything in twos,” Clay-Monaghan tells TODAY.com. “So I was super focused.”

While scanning baby soap and checking for toxicity levels to assuage her new-mom anxiety, Clay-Monaghan says she “felt this thing come over me.”

“Instantly it was dark,” she says. “I started screaming, but it was really close to my face so I couldn’t really catch my breath. I couldn’t get it off.”

Clay-Monaghan says she was so “abruptly frightened” and “caught off guard,” she started waving her arms in an attempt to free herself from what authorities later identified as a “bucket.”

“I got it off and I looked over my shoulder. It was a couple of guys. They had their phones out and they were taping me and they were laughing,” the new mom says. “I tried to say something but nothing came out.”

Clay-Monaghan says she again tried to say, “Help me, I have epilepsy” but couldn’t. Instead, she says she “went down and smashed my head into the ground.”

In a press release posted to Facebook, the Tustin Police Department said “four male juveniles entered Target” at approximately 2:45 p.m., walking around before “one of them picked up a bucket and placed it over the head of an adult female shopper.”

“As a result of the incident, the female shopper likely fainted and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and a police report was taken,” the statement said. “It is likely the juveniles were attempting to replicate the current social media trend where they place a bucket on a stranger’s head and film their reaction. There is no current threat to the community.”

Clay-Monaghan says she lost consciousness and only regained it “slightly in the ambulance where they were asking me questions.”

“I was really disoriented and so I didn’t really get it together until I was in this trauma hospital,” Clay-Monaghan says. “I thought to myself: ‘It’s my turn.’ I thought I was in a shooting, because the last thing I remembered was being in a public place.

“When I woke up, they told me I’m an assault victim,” she adds. “My clothes were cut off.”

The new mom shares that she’s a child cancer survivor — at 3, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a blood and bone marrow cancer that affects the white blood cells. Though she’s been in full remission for over 20 years, Clay-Monaghan has long-term comorbidities linked to her cancer, including epilepsy.

“One of the ironies in all of this is that when I was transferred to a hospital after the incident … it was the same hospital where I was treated for cancer,” Clay-Monaghan adds.

Bloodwork indicated that Clay-Monaghan had an “acute heart issue” she says, which she was told likely caused her to faint after the alleged assault.

“The physician distinctively said, ‘Once you hit your head on the ground, you probably did seize,” she says “But what took you down? You probably fainted.”

The Tustin Police Department is continuing to investigate the matter and asking those with information to contact the authorities. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault.

In a written statement provided to TODAY.com, a Target spokesperson says “the safety of our guests and team members is Target’s top priority.”

“Our hearts go out to the victim of this incident, and we appreciate the efforts of our team members who provided immediate assistance,” the spokesperson said. “We take any form of harassment seriously and are working closely with the Tustin Police Department as they investigate.”

Clay-Monaghan says she spent a total of five hours in the hospital before going back home to her family — an emotional reunion for her and her husband.

“It was so sad to see his face,” Clay-Monaghan says. “Hitting your head on the ground, people don’t necessarily wake up from that. He was consumed with fear.”

The new mom shares that she and her husband struggled with infertility for five years, eventually conceiving their twin boys via medical intervention. Now, she shutters to think at what would have happened if her sons were with her.

“That sense of not being able to have security has just really been difficult,” she adds. “It was very overwhelming to see my kids again.”

The new mom says she’s “not moving on until someone comes forth and is held accountable,” adding that she wants “repercussions” for the people responsible.

She also hopes her story will inspire parents to speak to their kids about so-called social media “challenges” that aim to make fun of or harm others.

“The amount of families — literally people out of the country — who’ve messaged me and said: ‘I’m so sorry about what happened to you, but I want to let you know I sat down at the dinner table tonight to talk to my kids,” Clay-Monaghan says. “I could never contact everyone back to say thank you.”

YouTuber Shot After Trying To Prank Man In A Mall

April 11, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

YouTuber Tanner Cook shot, arrest made

According to news station WUSA9, Cook was shot in the stomach and liver while recording a Classified Goons video inside the Dulles Town Center mall in Sterling, Virginia. The suspected shooter, 31-year-old Alan W. Colie, was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within a building. An investigation is still underway, while Cook had surgery for the incident. He told WUSA9 that Colie didn’t say anything. He just pulled out a gun and shot Cook.

G/O Media may get a commission

“I’m fine,” Cook told WUSA9 in an exclusive interview. “I was just playing a prank, a simple practical joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well and shot me.”

Kotaku reached out to Cook and the Classified Goons for comment.

Cops responded in three minutes

In a press release, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said that once a call was placed at around 11:57 a.m. local time reporting the incident, deputies were on the scene within three minutes. Colie, the suspect, was swiftly arrested.

“One adult male victim was found outside the mall with a gunshot wound to the abdomen,” LCSO said. “The victim was treated for injuries by deputies and members of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS) and transported to a local hospital for treatment. At this time, it does not appear that the suspect and the victim were known to each other.”

LCSO said deputies on the scene also “checked the entire mall” to see if any other suspects or victims were present, but nothing was reported in that regard.

When reached for comment, a LCSO detective told Kotaku that the department can’t divulge much information because the incident is still under investigation.

“We do have the shooter in custody,” the LCSO detective said. “We can’t release the victim’s name or the fact that the victim has a social media presence, which you might already know. We’re limited on what we can say, but the victim is still in the hospital. Other than that, we don’t know their status.”

Despite such a traumatizing predicament that would rattle most folks, Cook told WUSA9 that the shooting isn’t going to stop him. Posting is his “passion,” he told the news station, so he’s intent to return to YouTube. Cook’s expected to make a full recovery.
