Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky criticized for ‘stupid not funny prank’ on son for his birthday | Fox News

April 14, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Fox News Flash top entertainment and celebrity headlines are here.

“Avengers” star Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky are being eviscerated on social media for their playful celebration of their twin sons’ birthday.

“Happy 9th birthday to my two little men,” Hemsworth wrote along a photo of Pataky and their three children: daughter India and twin sons Tristan and Sasha.

“Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it first. ‘Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla.’ ‘Oh really son, what about now,'” he added.

The photo illustrated the silly nature of the joke, with one child’s head fully submerged in the chocolate treat while the rest of the family looked on.

Although many of Hemsworth’s 56 million Instagram followers relayed respective birthday wishes to his sons, other fans were more disturbed. Some were quick to criticize the couple, branding the prank as “violent.”

One person remarked, “Why people smash their kids face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever.”

Another individual wrote, “It’s so violent,” while another added, “Does anyone here want cake all over their face? didn’t think so. Why would your kid? And it’s so wasteful. So you’re going to throw a perfectly good cake away after the stupid not funny prank?”

Several fans defended the actor and his model wife, writing, “To each their own, you might see it as ridiculous but they are obviously enjoying it, stop judging ppl [sic] based on yourself, you need to understand not everyone is like you.”

Others questioned if it was a cultural tradition, as Pataky hails from Spain.

“Is it how they do it in Spain,” one person inquired.

“It’s part of Hispanic/Latino culture,” another person wrote back.

Mexican American actress Salma Hayek, actually expanded on this belief in an interview with Kelly Clarkson in 2021.

She explained that “La mordida” is a staple in Mexican culture, where a person’s face is smashed into a cake for their birthday.

“When the cake comes you make a wish, you blow the candle and then you take a bite of the cake and then somebody behind you whacks you in the head and puts your face inside of the cake. It’s very normal in Mexico,” she clarified.

Hayek revealed that for her birthday one year while filming “Eternals,” Angelina Jolie was responsible for smashing her face into a cake.

No joke: Cape cobra sneaks onto aircraft, pilot makes emergency landing

April 14, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Rudolf Erasmus, the pilot of a Beechcraft Baron, has been hailed a hero by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) for safely executing an emergency landing in Welkom with four passengers after realising a Cape cobra had snuck inside the aircraft.

Hardly ideal in the midst of a country-wide antivenom shortage.

When the alarming discovery was made that a very poisonous snake had snuck onto a flight from Cape Town to Nelspruit, Captain Rudolf Erasmus had to quickly and calmly decide to make an emergency landing in Welkom.

The pilot and his four passengers made a hasty exit from the aircraft after it safely landed.

A snake handler and the Executive Director of Capital Sounds International Broadcast Brian Emmenis, were called to the scene, but they haven’t found the cobra yet. The search has continued this morning.

According to Brian Emmenis, mielie meal was spread to entice the unwanted passenger out of the plane, but with temperatures in Welkom so low, it’s no surprise he hasn’t left yet.

The snake handlers were scheduled to arrive at 9am to assist, and the Cape of Good Hope SPCA has offered to transport the cobra safely back to his home.

Cape cobras are one of Africa’s most venomous snakes, and their venom is highly neurotoxic, attacking the nervous system. If left untreated, the venom can cause paralysis, respiratory failure and even death in humans.

Due to a severe lack of antivenom in South Africa, snake bite victims are only getting half the amount of snake venom they need, if they get any treatment at all.

Had Captain Erasmus not handled the emergency operation with such skill, he and his passengers would have been in grave danger.

Before delving into questions about animals, we wanted to learn more about Sally Chamberlain and the driving force behind her pursuit of a career as a clinical animal behaviorist. The dog and cat behavior expert shared that she has always loved animals and bought her first cat behavior book when she was ten years old. “Back then, I had no idea that there was such a thing as a cat behaviorist, so learning about animal behavior was just a hobby. We had many pets in our family including cats, dogs, budgies, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits. I was also mad about horses and took up riding for a while.”

“As an adult, I had a series of office jobs that brought in some money but I never felt happy doing accounting work, so when I was looking for a part-time job after having my children, I decided to set up my own pet-sitting business. Looking after so many people and their pets inspired me to learn as much as I could about cats and dogs and after taking a few years to study for a degree-level qualification in animal behavior and gaining lots of experience, I was very happy to become an Accredited Animal Behaviourist in 2015 and a Clinical Animal Behaviourist in 2022, which was my ultimate goal!

I still enjoy caring for some long-established pet-sitting clients, but I also help people to resolve the cat and dog behavior problems in their household, remotely and in person, which is very rewarding but can sometimes be difficult, as it can often be stressful and emotional time for everyone involved. I wouldn’t swap it for the world, though, and I continue to learn more about canine and feline behavior every day, amongst other species.” You can learn more about Sally and her services on her website, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram!

It’s not that surprising that these memes mainly feature dogs and cats as these animals are among the most popular pets worldwide. While we usually hear how different they are in their behavior, we got curious about the similarities they share. Sally Chamberlain told us that cats and dogs are similar in many ways: “Both have evolved to live in domestic homes as pets (except certain dog breeds and some individuals) and can form strong bonds with their human caregivers. They are both opportunistic in the ways that they try to gain the most benefit from living with us, such as making sure they get the warmest seat in the house, are given tasty food and treats and do their best to solicit love and attention from us by being cute and affectionate. Most dogs get taken out for walks but some cats can enjoy walks in the same way if they are trained to do so, usually from a young age. Cats also enjoy playing games and some of them like to play ‘fetch’ in the same way that dogs do.”

“It is a long-held belief in human society that dogs are man’s best friend and cats are aloof, but the opposite can be true. I’ve met many cats with dog-like loyal qualities and dogs who can be aloof and would rather chomp on a chew in their beds or sniff around the garden than spend time with people. Cats and dogs are all very individual and although they are very different species, as modern-day pets, they can be similar in the way they have adjusted to life as domestic animals. A lot of households have both cats and dogs as pets and they can become closely bonded, especially if they are brought up together as puppies and kittens. Our own cat, Monty, has many dog-like qualities. He’ll often follow us around and flop on the floor nearby to watch what we are doing. He also enjoys lots of fuss and attention, including belly rubs, and really loves his food!”

Although pets can bring immense happiness to their owners, they also present a range of challenges. Thinking about that, we asked Sally Chamberlain about some of the most common issues she has faced with pets, and what tips she would suggest to help owners improve their pets’ behavior. According to the dog and cat behavior expert, one of the main issues that spans across both cats and dogs is a lack of understanding about how they communicate.

“Many humans assume that cats and dogs communicate in the same way as we do and like to be touched, hugged and looked in the eye and that they should be ‘told off’ when they do something wrong, but much of this can cause them anxiety. Animals such as cats and dogs rely heavily on scent as part of their communication systems so, especially in the case of feline behavior problems, they tend to urinate, defecate and spray urine around the home if they are feeling territorially secure but some humans believe they do this out of spite, when it is actually either due to a medical problem and/or anxiety. Another common behavior problem when it comes to cats is when their human caregivers bring another cat or kitten into the home and expect them to just get along. In most cases, cats do not like living with other cats, especially not unfamiliar ones and they will naturally try to expel them from their territory unless they are slowly and carefully introduced over a period of weeks or months.”

“Some of the most common canine behavior problems stem from them being poorly socialized as a puppy during what is referred to as the ‘sensitive period’ of around three to fourteen weeks of age. If they have not had positive experiences of different animals, people and places, they may struggle to cope with these later in life and behave aggressively or shut down because they are anxious and afraid. Another common issue with dogs, especially since lockdown in 2020, is separation anxiety, which means that a dog cannot cope with being left alone or even if they have human company, they cannot cope without their favorite person or people and may bark, whine, howl, urinate and defecate because they are so distressed. In some cases, dogs with severe separation anxiety have hurt themselves trying to break out of doors, windows or crates in an attempt to find their human families. Many dogs also struggle when out on walks and may pull on the lead, fail to come when called or bark and lunge at other dogs, people or passing vehicles or anything else with wheels. These are just a few of the examples of behavior problems in dogs and cats. There are many more but by learning as much as we can about cat and dog behavior and setting them up for success when they are young, much of them can be prevented.”

When it comes to animal training, dogs are often the first pets that come to mind. However, as many cat owners can attest to, felines are also capable of learning and can benefit from training just like their canine counterparts. According to Sally Chamberlain, any animal can be trained and the principles are the same.

“The main type of training that most people are aware of is positive reinforcement training in which an animal is given a food treat or other reinforcer for carrying out an action that we would like them to. Dog training is well-known but cats can be trained in the same way if they are in the mood (calm and receptive) and a reinforcer of high enough value is used, such as small pieces of chicken, other food treats, play or fuss, depending on what they find rewarding. Training a dog is likely to be more well-known because they go out into public places more frequently than cats and there can be issues with the law and the risk of injury if a dog is not well-behaved in public. When it comes to cats, they too often go outside but are more likely to run away from someone rather than interact or behave aggressively. Training for cats can be enriching for them, reduce anxiety and increase the bond between them and their humans. Training is also good for getting them used to husbandry procedures, such as claw trimming or administering medication and can also form part of behavior therapy to resolve some of the problems mentioned above.”

“Training continually occurs in animals because they are always learning and we can shape their behavior by offering rewards when they do something we want and would like to be repeated, such as them lying down calmly or staying on a stool next to the kitchen worktop when we are cooking. This principle also applies to us too because, as you may have noticed, our cats and dogs have us very well trained! They train us to stroke them when they jump on our lap, give them food when they are hungry and open the door for them when they want to go out. Cats are especially good at training humans to get them to do what they want, hence the phrase ‘dogs have owners, cats have staff’!”

When it comes to training animals and communicating with them in general, Sally Chamberlain has some last words: “It is vital to remember that we should be kind and set them up for success by making the training easy at first and gradually building up to more complex exercises. Training with kindness and without the use of force, fear or intimidation is usually referred to as being ‘force-free’. I would recommend being very cautious about using any techniques shown on television shows, as these are often outdated and designed to show a ‘quick fix’ for entertainment purposes. Some of the best ways to learn about force-free training are the following YouTube channels, websites and books. These a just a few but are an excellent place to start:

To find a qualified behaviorist:

Carol Burnett Admits She Wants To Be Remembered For Making People Laugh As She Approaches 90

April 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Carol Burnett is a much-loved singer, actress and comedian that’s brought a ray of sunshine and laughter onto our screens for nearly 70 years. Incredibly, she’s still going strong, even as she nears her 90th birthday at the end of April 2023.

Burnett was born on April 26, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, but later moved to Los Angeles to live with her grandmother in Hollywood, where she attended Hollywood High School. She went on to study at UCLA, which is where she found her love for performance, and the rest, as they say, is history. Burnett got the acting bug and made her way to New York City after graduation, where she secured her breakout role as the evil queen in the musical fairytale production, “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Around the same time, she became a regular player on television’s “The Garry Moore Show,” which led to her first Emmy Award win. It also led her to realize how much she loved working on variety shows on TV, as it gave her the opportunity to play different characters every week, whereas on Broadway she had to play the same character eight times a week for a year.

Within a few years, Burnett started her own show, “The Carol Burnett Show,” which was a variety show with vaudeville roots and featured dancing, singing and comedy sketches. It aired on CBS from 1967 to 1978 and was incredibly popular.

It wasn’t long before Burnett became an iconic comedy queen in the acting business. The popularity of her variety show gained her notable roles in film and television, such as the orphanage owner Miss Hannigan in 1982’s “Annie.”

Ahead of her 90th birthday on April 26, 2023, Burnett sat down with People to reflect on her legacy, and what it is she most wants to be remembered for.

Be sure to reach the end of this article to see the full video 🙂

“The Carol Burnett Show” was airing at the peak of Burnett’s career when she began her family with TV producer Joe Hamilton. She welcomed three daughters into the world during the early 1960s: Jody, Erin and Carrie Hamilton. All three of her girls went on to become stars in their own right, but she did not expect the turn of events that took place. Although behind the screen Burnett seemed happy, not everything in her life was filled with joy.

Burnett’s first child Jody Hamilton was born in 1967. She followed in her father’s footsteps and became a film producer in Hollywood. She even produced her mom’s show “Carol Burnett: Show Stoppers” — talk about keeping it in the family!

After Jody, Burnett welcomed her second child, Erin, into the family. Erin’s talent was singing, and she pursued a career in the music industry. But sadly, Erin has battled with drug abuse for many years. Burnett even had to step in when things were too much for her daughter and played a big part in the upbringing of her grandson, Dylan.

Burnett’s youngest daughter, Carrie, was born in 1963 and went on to become an actress, but sadly, she too had a long battle with drug addiction. Tragically, just as Carrie was getting sober and her bond with her mother was strengthened, Carrie’s life was cut short when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She died from complications due to pneumonia in 2002.

For someone who spent her entire life making audiences laugh, Burnett was unfortunately not afforded that same grace in her personal life. In any case, the entertainer admitted she found solace in bringing joy to others.

As one of the most famous early female comedians, it's no surprise that Burnett wants to be remembered for making people laugh. When asked what she wants her legacy to be, she told People:

"I made people laugh, made them feel good when they might have been down."

The comedy icon reflected on the positive words she's received over the years.

"In my fan mail, many say it was the only time the family would get together, to watch and laugh," she said, referring to "The Carol Burnett Show," and added: "And that sometimes they were lonesome and were cheered up by our show. That's a good feeling."

Burnett has had a career like no other. With nearly 70 years in show business, Burnett has garnered many accolades, including seven Golden Globe Awards, six Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and a Tony Award, making her just an Oscar short of the coveted EGOT status. She was also awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

When asked about her impressive career and life achievements — and the fact that she's still going strong at nearly 90 — Burnett replied, "I can't wrap my head around it."

"I still feel like I'm about 11, but I'm amazed. It sure went fast," she said.

Ever thankful, the beloved star added, "But I'm glad because I've got all my parts — got my hips, I got my knees and I've got my brain, so I'm happy about that."

Are you a fan of Carol Burnett? Did you know she had such a difficult personal life, despite being known for making others laugh? What is your favorite performance of hers? Let us know, then pass this on to other fans of hers!
