Sen. John Fetterman avoided responding to a furious protester this week, saying his past stroke made it impossible to understand what was being yelled.

A pro-Palestinian activist shouted down Fetterman as the Pennsylvania Democrat spoke at a Get Out the Vote rally on Sunday in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

“Four thousand-plus dead children in Palestine. Nine thousand-plus dead civilians. Get off the stage,” the unidentified protester heckled.

The heckler continued, “You have blood on your hands. Get off the stage.”

Fetterman, who did not directly respond to the man’s shouts, said he could not understand what was being said because of his previous stroke.

“The joke is on you. I had a stroke,” Fetterman told the protester. “I can’t fully understand what you’re saying.”

The Pennsylvania lawmaker has been heavily criticized by far-left groups of Democrats for failing to call for a cease-fire in Gaza.

The interaction in McKeesport is one of the few instances in which Fetterman has appealed to his verbal struggles as an impediment – the senator normally dismisses concerns that his linguistic struggles could compromise his ability to exercise his elected office.

Fetterman’s office has repeatedly slammed critics for drawing attention to his apparent speech problems and has maintained that he is more than capable of doing the job.

His office was previously found to have doctored some of his remarks in press releases earlier this year to make them sound more coherent.

Fetterman is no longer as reliant as he was on digital transcription tools to speak with reporters and others as he continues to recover from a stroke he suffered last year, the Washington Post reported last week. He was hospitalized for depression earlier this year as well.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is the only member of the U.S. Senate to call for a cease-fire so far. Approximately 24 members of the House have demanded such a cease-fire as well.

For most people, Helldivers 2 doesn’t immediately come to mind when you think of PlayStation, but Arrowhead CEO and the game’s director, Johan Pilestedt, hopes to change that. Helldivers 2, of course, is a PlayStation console exclusive and will likely stay that way for the foreseeable future, but its developer, Arrowhead Studios, remains independent. Even so, Pilestedt hopes one day for Helldivers to be considered in the same pantheon of PlayStation brand icons as Uncharted, God of War, and Horizon. It all started with a very silly tweet proclaiming “the ONLY two REAL gaming brands” to be PlayStation and Nintendo, posted with a split image showing various PlayStation and Nintendo characters side by side. Pilestedt rather amusingly responded asking why the heck Helldivers 2’s champions of democracy weren’t included in the group of PlayStation heroes, and a fan respectfully and rightfully pointed out: “As much as I love Helldivers, it isn’t yet a game to immediately think, ‘oh helldivers, f**k yeah PlayStation’. Not yet, but dammit it is getting there.” Pilestedt said he agrees with the fan’s assessment, but added, “It’s crazy that it might be in the future…. Like… It’s a childhood dream come true.” I do agree with you. It’s crazy that it might be in the future…. It’s not quite the leviathan of TV satire it once was, but there must still be some thrill in seeing South Park reference something you’ve made. No one needed the rude cartoon boys to confirm that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a huge success, but a joke about cross-dimensional BG3 save files in the latest South Park special does underscore how wildly mainstream the D&D RPG has gone.

But like a good, stern DM who doesn’t let the rules go out the window just because the players are joking around, Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios was quick to log an objection to the gag. Greeting the show with a wonderfully dry “Hello @SouthPark,” the studio pointed out that the joke misrepresents BG3’s cross-save capabilities. 

The special, called South Park: Joining the Panderverse, premiered on Paramount+ today, and based mostly on the trailer, has to do with an alternate South Park universe influenced by the show’s take on ‘diverse casting.’ All you need to know in this context is that it involves a multiverse, which is where Baldur’s Gate 3 comes in.

In a scene posted on X, alternate reality Cartman (played by Janeshia Adams-Ginyard) complains that she’s “already like 50 hours into Baldur’s Gate 3” but has to start a new game. “Do save games not cross between multiple universes?” she asks.

Stan responds: “Save games don’t even cross between PCs and PS5s, why would they cross between multiple universes?”

As Larian pointed out in its response, however, Baldur’s Gate 3 save games can be shared between PCs and PS5s.

“While Baldur’s Gate 3 saves can’t cross multiversal barriers, we can confirm they do actually transfer between PC and PS5,” the studio wrote.

It would’ve been a decent gag otherwise, but so it goes. The larger joke driving the scene (the clip above isn’t the entirely of BG3’s cameo) is better, but I’ll leave it unspoiled.

There’s no word on whether Larian plans to support cross-universe saves in the future, but we’ll ask the next time we’re in touch with their director of multiversal communications.
