WATCH: Biden responds to bribery scandal allegations with joke: ‘Where’s the money?’ | Fox News

September 13, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

President Biden responded to questions Thursday about his alleged involvement in an international bribery scandal with a joke.

President Biden responded to questions Thursday about his alleged involvement in an international bribery scandal with a simple joke.

“Where’s the money?” he quipped when asked by a reporter for his response to Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., a member of the House Oversight Committee investigating the president, who said earlier in the day the allegations are “worse than has been reported so far.”

“I’m joking. It’s a bunch of malarkey,” Biden added.

Mace, who reviewed the FD-1023 document an FBI whistleblower said proved Biden’s participation in the bribery scandal, told Fox News Digital on Thursday there is “damning evidence the sitting President of the United States sold out his country in an ongoing bribery scheme.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, were first approached by the whistleblower who said the FBI was in possession of the document, dated June 30, 2020, that explicitly detailed information provided by a confidential human source who alleged that Biden, while serving as vice president, was involved in a $5 million criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national in exchange for influence over policy decisions.

After being subpoenaed for the document, FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday allowed Comer and House Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., to view the document in a secure sensitive compartment information facility.

The FBI agreed on Wednesday to allow the full Oversight Committee to view the document after Republicans on the committee threatened to hold Wray in contempt of Congress.

The information in the document, according to the whistleblower, reveals “a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed as well as its purpose” and details an arrangement that involved an exchange of money for policy decisions.

Arise, ‘Mary Queen of Stops’ Earps: Petition calling for Nike to overturn decision not to sell England goalie’s shirt hits 70,000 as Lioness is hailed stand out heroine of the match – but PR experts say she will have the last laugh | Daily Mail Online

September 12, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Furious football fans are heaping fresh pressure on Nike to overturn its ‘outrageous’ snub of England’s heroic goalkeeper Mary Earps after it refused to sell replicas of her shirt – with 70,000 people now backing a petition demanding a u-turn.

The 30-year-old Lioness was hailed as a standout heroine of England‘s World Cup final match against Spain on Sunday, which later saw her being awarded the coveted Golden Glove, recognising her as the best keeper of the tournament.

The match ended in heartache for England, who lost 1-0. But Earps – adoringly nicknamed ‘Mary Queen of Stops’ by fans – produced a string of stunning saves to keep her team in it, which included a penalty stoppage of Jennifer Hermoso’s strike.

But her performance has been marred by Nike’s controversial decision not to sell the shirt of the Lioness heroine, who has since been hailed as a ‘national hero’ that ‘deserves the world’ following her performance at this year’s tournament.

However, PR gurus say Earps could have the last laugh insisting she could rake in a million pounds through lucrative brand deals, with experts saying Nike’s snub was a ‘golden opportunity’ for other firms to ‘scoop her up’ – which could even see the likes of Kim Kardashian eyeing up the star to represent her Skims clothing range.

Lioness keeper Mary Earps was hailed as the best goalie in the World Cup, being awarded the Golden Glove trophy. But Nike has come under fire for not selling copies of her team shirt

The England star was the standout hero of the World Cup final after saving Jennifer Hermoso’s penalty in the second half, keeping the Lionesses in the match

Former England goalkeeper David Seaman said Nike would be ‘regretting’ its decision not to sell replicas of Earps’ shirt following her efforts in the Women’s World Cup

Nick Ede, brand and culture expert, said Earps was ‘well on her way to making over a million pounds’ through brand endorsements, TV deals and public engagements.

‘Mary Earps has shone at the World Cup and although Nike have refused to print her team shirt this is now a golden opportunity for other disruptor brands to come in and scoop her up as a brand ambassador and make a lot of money for her and the brand,’ he told MailOnline.

‘I can see her being offered lucrative book deals and also big brand endorsements too. As a positive role model she has a really big chance of making a lot of money in many categories from cosmetics brands, lifestyle and healthcare brands too.

‘The big players who have lots of money to spend like insurance companies and banks will love her for brand recognition and positive impact. I can also see someone like Kim Kardashian utilising them to further her Skims brand in the UK and cement its inclusive message.’

The news comes as pressure continues to mount on Nike to overturn its decision not to sell Earps’ kits to her growing army of fans.

In a sly dig at the fashion giant following Sunday’s final in Sydney, Australia, former England men’s keeper David Seaman tweeted: ‘Bet @Nike are regretting not selling the #MaryEarps shirt now.’

While fans on social media celebrated her efforts and insisted she was now a national icon, with one woman tweeting: ‘@nikefootball Why won’t you sell Mary Earps’ kit. Are you crazy? She’s a national hero!’

Another added: ‘Despite losing can we just appreciate Mary Earps for a second? That woman is a national hero and deserves the world #Lionesses.’

Mary Earps cemented her place as a legendary Lioness figure following her performance during the World Cup (she is pictured celebrating England’s semi-final win, with Rachel Daly on her back)

Fans of the English keeper have been demanding Nike releases replicas of her team shirts

But so far the fashion giant has refused to do so – with PR gurus now claiming the move could now be a ‘golden opportunity’ for other brands to ‘scoop up’ the England star

Nike, which manufactures the England kit, has been blasted for choosing not to sell a replica shirt with Earps’ name and number, unlike other players.

Earps discovered she had been left out of promotional pictures when the Lionesses World Cup kit was launched in April and that her shirt would not be available.

The Manchester United keeper raised the issue with Nike and even offered to fund the production herself but was told this would not be possible.

The England goalie, whose roaring ‘f*** off’ after she saved Jennifer Hermoso’s penalty became a standout moment from the women’s World Cup Final, slammed Nike’s ‘hugely hurtful’ decision not to stock replicas of her shirt for fans to buy.

A petition set up by 16-year-old Emmy Somauroo demanding the sport giant make the shirt reached more than 70,000 signatures on Monday.

Calling on people to ‘unite’, the Change.org petition said: ‘We need to show togetherness and support Mary and ask Nike to rethink their decision. Let’s make them see just how important our female goalkeepers are. How respected they are and how many young girls aspire to join them in the future.

‘Any type of exclusion is unacceptable in this day and age and we need to show we will not stand for it. Mary and all female goalkeepers, we love and respect you. You are inspirational and we are behind you.’

Supporters of the campaign have since rallied round Earps, with one writing: ‘She was named the best female goalkeeper in the world. She is an inspiration for all girls (and) women.’

Another branded the move by Nike as ‘disgraceful’ adding: ‘Mary Earps is so inspirational and an incredible role model for the future of women’s football. She should be recognised as such with her shirt available to buy for all fans.’

Lioness fans have since taken matters into their own hands, making their own replica jerseys using felt tip pens and printing machines.

Singer Kate Nash was among the fans posting on Twitter to reveal their very own, homemade Mary Earps shirts, following Nike’s decision not to stock replicas of the Lioness goalie’s jersey

Another Lioness fan had had her own Earps shirt printed, seeing as Nike would not stock replicas of the jersey

One fan, who appeared to have written Earps’s name onto a piece of fabric and sewed it onto a different Premier League shirt, asked others to share their own creations

As the petition for Nike to sell Mary Earps’s shirt reaches 70,000 signatures, people have taken matters into their own hands to create their own

A mother took to Twitter to explain her daughter ‘adores’ Mary Earps but was not able to buy a proper jersey to support the goalkeeper, so instead she wrote ‘Earps’ and a number 1 on a pink t shirt that was turned inside out

One male fan, who was watching the World Cup Final in a fan zone, had used what appeared to be duct tape to customise his jacket to feature Earps’s surname and shirt number

Nike last night broke its silence on the furore around the scandal, issuing a brief statement, saying: ‘Nike is committed to women’s football and we’re excited by the passion around this year’s tournament and the incredible win by the Lionesses to make it into the final.

‘We are proudly offering the best of Nike innovation and services to our federation partners and hundreds of athletes.

‘We hear and understand the desire for a retail version of a goalkeeper jersey and we are working towards solutions for future tournaments, in partnership with Fifa and the federations.

‘The fact that there’s a conversation on this topic is testament to the continued passion and energy around the women’s game and we believe that’s encouraging.’

But speaking at Brisbane hotel last month about how the fashion giant was not selling her jersey, Earps said: ‘I can’t really sugarcoat this any way so I’m not going to try, it’s hugely disappointing and very hurtful.

‘It’s something that I’ve been fighting behind closed doors. I’ve been desperately trying to find a solution with the FA and with Nike.’

‘Unfortunately it’s become very evident that is not possible and there’s not going to be an acceptable solution for the young kids out there. On a personal level it’s obviously hugely hurtful, considering the last 12 months especially.’

Lionesses can ‘command up to £500,000’ with brand, TV and book deals during ‘golden window of opportunity’ after reaching World Cup final – with fan favourite and ‘positive role model’ Mary Earps well on her way to more than a £1million, expert says

by TOM COTTERILL

England’s heroic squad of Lionesses can now ‘command up to £500,000’ through lucrative branding deals after reaching the World Cup final, PR gurus have said – with fan favourite Mary Earps ‘well on her way’ to earning ‘more than a million’.

Sarina Wiegman’s squad’s stunning success is likely to see players reaping in huge endorsement deals with major companies eager to capitalise on the Lionesses’ ‘positive role model’ status during a ‘golden window of opportunity’.

Branding experts predicted stars could expect to bag TV and book deals worth hundreds of thousands – with some potentially netting themselves huge endorsements from fashion giants and celebrities keen to get a Lioness on board.

Nick Ede, brand and culture expert, said England’s own golden goalkeeper Mary Earps could soon lead the pack after being hailed the best goalie at the World Cup.

‘The Lionesses can command up to half a million during this golden window of opportunity for them,’ he told MailOnline. ‘Like with any group of people there will always be ones that brands pick out and want more than others and I can see that Mary could be well on her way to making over a million with brand endorsements, public speaking engagements and TV deals too.’

Sarina Wiegman’s squad’s stunning success is likely to see players reaping in huge endorsement deals with major companies eager to capitalise on the Lionesses’ ‘positive role model’ status (the team is pictured after their semi-final win)

The Lionesses celebrated reaching their maiden World Cup final, and England’s first in nearly 60 years, by dancing to Sweet Caroline today -with PR gurus claiming the squad were now admired as role models for young girls and women

And England’s heroic goalkeeper Mary Earps could be ‘well on her way’ to making ‘more than a million pounds’ following her performance in the World Cup, which saw her being awarded the coveted Golden Gloves award as she was named the best keeper in the tournament

He claimed fashion and cosmetic brands will be looking to sign up the Lionesses, with social media plugs by England players potentially netting them between £5,000 and £10,000 a post – with a six-month deal earning upwards of £100,000.

He added Earps ‘shone’ during the World Cup and that although Nike refused to print her team shirt, it was now a ‘golden opportunity for other disruptor brands to come in and scoop her up as a brand ambassador’.

‘As a positive role model she has a really big chance of making a lot of money in many categories from cosmetics brands, lifestyle and healthcare brands too,’ Mr Ede said.

‘The big players who have lots of money to spend like insurance companies and banks will love her for brand recognition and positive impact. I can also see someone like Kim Kardashian utilising them to further her Skims brand in the UK and cement its inclusive message.’

The brand expert said the reason the Lionesses were so ‘attractive’ to business and advertisers was because they had a ‘clean and positive inclusive attitude’ which was ‘very appealing’.

‘I can see one or two of them walking down the catwalk at London Fashion Week for a big fashion house, perhaps Victoria Beckham,’ he added.

‘As role models they are the perfect players for car brands looking to encourage female purchasers and I can see household names like Persil wanting to jump on the brand bandwagon and sign them up too.’

Some Lionesses are expected to rake in hundreds of thousands of pounds through lucrative brand deals and endorsements, PR experts have claimed.

The team’s official Twitter account posted three images from behind the scenes in Sydney, following an historic 3-1 win over old rivals, Australia

PR expert Sean O’Meara told MailOnline there had ‘never been a better time’ to be a Lioness – and predicted top players in the squad could make huge amounts of cash.

‘I expect some of the squad will be signing deals worth millions. I also think shows like Strictly Come Dancing will be sniffing around,’ he told MailOnline.

‘Even though they lost the final, record-breaking viewing figures and positive audience sentiment toward the England team brand mean that commercially there’s never been a better time to be a Lioness. They’ll need to strike while their irons are hot though.’

He said Earps could enjoy the sort of branding success of USA goalkeeper Hope Solo, who bagged major deals with Nike, Simple, Seiko and Bank of America during her 16 years with the American national side.

Mr O’Meara added that Nike’s decision not to sell replicas of Earps’ shirt was a huge miscalculation by the fashion giant – as he predicted the 30-year-old Manchester United star would benefit from it.

‘There’s an opportunity brewing,’ he added. ‘Nike have sort of, but not quite, apologised already and have vaguely committed to “solutions”, but when a hero like Mary is snubbed like that, there will be a savvy brand – not necessarily a sportswear brand – ready to sweep in and throw their weight behind her.

‘I think in the long run she’ll benefit from what’s happened, with more opportunities than she would have enjoyed had Nike just released her shirt.

‘It is still a huge shame that Nike dropped the ball, but if Mary is well-advised she could stand to make millions from commercial partnerships.’

New Trump-Biden 2024 polls driving you crazy? You’re not alone.

September 12, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

In The Wall Street Journal’s latest poll of the 2024 election, President Biden and former president Donald Trump are locked at 46% each. Other recent polls have shown essentially the same thing. While there will be many twists and turns before next November, at this point the race is a toss-up.

If that makes you feel like your country has gone mad, you’re not alone.

This is not a feeling we talk about much. While political reporters obsess over the anger and resentments felt by blue-collar white men in Rust Belt diners, liberals’ emotions are seldom considered worthy of the same kind of exploration.

How is it that half of our fellow citizens can contemplate for an instant giving Trump all that power again?

Even those who feel this way know it’s an irrational way to approach politics. I could offer you a lengthy and sober explanation of why a Trump-Biden election will be so close. I can give you chapter and verse to detail why it is that a former president who faces four separate criminal indictments, who attempted to overturn a lawful election, who oozes corruption and dishonesty, and who has made clear his intention to practically dismantle the American system of democracy as soon as he gets the chance, is nearly an even bet to take back the White House.

I can describe the power of partisanship in a polarized age. I can explain the incentive structure that keeps Republican politicians in line behind Trump. I can tell you why Biden gets no credit for bringing the economy back from the depths of recession. I can explain why, despite the fact that he has literally the best one-term job creation record of any president in history; inflation has fallen to 3%; and he has signed legislation providing some of the most important investments in decades, most Americans think Biden has done a poor job on the economy.

I can tell you all that, calmly and reasonably. I’ve done so so many times, when asked by friends, relatives and interviewers. I’ve written so many articles about the nature of Trump’s appeal that I lost count long ago.

Yet part of me looks at those polls and wants to respond not with calm and reason, but with a blood-curdling scream of rage. Or at least with the kind of frustration bordering on despair that usually prompts those questions in the first place.

Most Republican voters don’t think Trump charges should disqualify him, poll shows

How can it possibly be, I keep getting asked, that after everything we’ve been through since 2015, even 5% of Americans, let alone 45%, would consider letting him within a mile of the White House? How is it that half of our fellow citizens can contemplate for an instant giving Trump all that power again?

Conservatives disagree vehemently with Biden’s policy choices, you say? Fine — there are a dozen other Republicans running for president, most of whom are quite right-wing, yet not lunatics. Why not pick one of them?

Some details of the primary race may have been unexpected (Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ swift fall, for instance), but Trump’s glide to the nomination is no surprise at all. Anyone who pays close attention to politics by now has a Ph.D. in Trumpology gained over years of watching and considering the man himself, the carnival roadshow of his devoted cultists, and the more casual supporters who keep him atop his party. We all saw this coming. But when you step back for a moment, the whole picture can seem even worse than it was, like a horror movie when the protagonist wakes from her nightmare only to realize she’s still in her nightmare.

Now sanity itself seems a temporary anomaly.

My informal canvas of liberal friends reveals that this feeling — something like incredulous despair verging on panic — is not unusual. We tamp it down and joke about it, but it never disappears. Tens of millions of Americans are fine with Trump’s brand of revanchist authoritarianism, and even yearn for it. Tens of millions more see him as just one choice among many; maybe they’ll vote for him again if the price of gas goes up.

Like many on the left, I will never again be seduced by the inspiring feeling of hope and belonging we felt when Barack Obama was elected in 2008. But the emotions of 2020 were supposed to be less naïve. When Biden won, it felt like a return to sanity. Yes, this abominable person temporarily took hold of our political world, but in the end the electorate did the right thing and sent him packing.

But now sanity itself seems a temporary anomaly. Trump came back, not in some friendlier packaging like the “New Nixon” of 1968, but even worse than before. He quickly regained whatever support he lost in the wake of Jan. 6, as though it never happened.

Joe: President Biden is always underestimated

To be clear, just as I could explain why Trump is in a relatively strong position, I could also offer many good reasons why Biden has the advantage in the general election, and why the most likely outcome may be a repeat of 2020, which he won rather handily. At this time 12 years ago, Barack Obama trailed slightly in the polls, and he won comfortably the following year. The odds are still ever so slightly in Biden’s favor.

But even if that is the outcome, and even if we spend another year between now and the election carefully analyzing the structure and shape of the madhouse we’re locked in, it’s still a madhouse.

As infuriating as it is to admit the electorate may choose another Trump term, the only answer may be to hold on to that truth. Rejecting reality only replicates Republicans’ errors that led to Trump’s rise. Exercise your reason, stay informed, understand what’s happening in all its detail. But at those times when you want to scream in fear and anger, don’t think you’re being foolish or irrational. It just means you can see what’s in front of you.

30 Hilarious Times People Forgot To Check The Background When Taking A Selfie

September 11, 2023 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Ah, the selfie. It’s inspired sticks that have caused tourists to be hated around the globe, filters that turn our faces into almost unrecognizable avatars and Instagram photos that we flood with comments about how gorgeous our best friends are. Whether you love it or hate it, the selfie is here to stay!

But not all selfies turn out picture perfect. Sometimes, when the timing is just right, these pics are photobombed by hilarious things that take them from mundane images to amazing pieces of art. Below, Bored Panda has gathered some of the funniest selfie fails the world has ever seen, so enjoy scrolling through them and remember to always check the background!

How do you feel about selfies, pandas? Is your Instagram grid full of flattering pics of your own face that you perfectly captured with the right lighting, angles and filters? Or do you prefer to stay behind the camera and capture your friends and family instead? I’ve never been a huge fan of the selfie myself, but I have to admit, it does have its perks. For example, when asking my partner to take a photo of me, it can be impossible to convey exactly what I’m imagining. The angles will be wrong, he’ll be too close or too far away, and somehow they often end up blurry. If I’m in charge, however, I can capture an image exactly how I want it. And it spares us from quarreling about what makes a “good photo”.

Selfies have been common for quite some time, especially among solo travelers and anyone who was given a Polaroid for Christmas back in the day. But they have likely been around even longer than you would expect. Contrary to the widely circulated rumor that Paris Hilton “invented” the selfie, the man who is actually credited with creating the innovation was American photographer Robert Cornelius, who took the first documented selfie in 1839. The photo was captured via daguerreotype in Philadelphia, and it was a huge game changer in the self-portrait game.

Since 1839, there have, understandably, been countless innovations in the selfie realm. We’ve come a long way from simple daguerreotype photos, but another form of selfie that’s still popular today came about in the early 1900s: the mirror selfie. According to Rangefinder, the first documented mirror pic was taken with a Kodak Brownie box camera and features an unknown woman. Although the image is at least a century old, it seems eerily similar to a mirror pic we might see on a friend’s Instagram story today. We just might find her attire and home to be a bit old fashioned…

While you might imagine a selfie to be exclusively a photo that includes the subject holding their arm outstretched and turning the camera towards themself, the first known photo of this nature was taken in 1909 by Joseph Byron Clayton. The adorable selfie features his arms outstretched in both sides of the frame, with his entire outfit shown in the middle. Perhaps he was even starting the outfit of the day trend as well! In 1920, the same innovator took the world’s first known “groupie” as well, featuring five men that worked for his studio standing with him on a rooftop in New York.

Nowadays, selfies are often associated with teenagers using Snapchat and Instagram, but it’s possible that they existed for quite some time before teens got behind the trend. The first known selfie taken by a teen was captured in 1913 by 13-year-old Anastasia Nikolaevna, a member of the Russian royal family. She also used a Kodak Brownie to snap a mirror pic, unknowingly participating in a trend that millions, if not billions, of teens would later follow in her footsteps with. If you’d like to see the iconic photo for yourself, you can find it right here!

Selfies are extremely common today, and we’re all familiar with the idea of them. But snapping pics of ourselves actually did not have a specific name until the term selfie was coined in 2002. Allegedly, we have an Australian man named “Hopey” to thank for the word, as he posted a photo of his injured lip online with the caption, “Um, drunk at a mates 21st, I tripped ofer [sic] and landed lip first (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie.” And in 2014, selfie was officially added to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary. So yes, it is a word!

As time has passed, however, selfies have become increasingly accessible. Back in the day, people had to use actual film cameras to snap their selfies, but as of 2003, smartphones began adding cameras that made selfie-taking much easier. Gone were the days of turning our phones around to see our faces or awkwardly trying to get the perfect mirror selfies. Of course, many of us still take selfies in the mirror when that’s the style we’re going for, but it’s great to have options. Plus, the “selfie camera” that my phone has today is much more impressive than the back- camera that my first smartphone had. We’re so spoiled!

Now, I would be remiss to write about selfies without mentioning the infamous selfie stick. This device, which gained massive popularity in the early 2000s, with some buyers purchasing it ironically and others genuinely loving it, is the bane of many travelers’ and people who live in tourist destinations’ existence. But according to the BBC, this creation was actually invented twice.

Apparently, the creation first came about in the 1980s when Hiroshi Ueda, an employee at the Minolta camera company, realized he had a problem while traveling in Europe. “When I was in the Louvre Museum in Paris, I asked a child to take a photo of us, but when I stepped away, the child ran away with my camera,” he explained. Thus, he came up with the “extender stick”, or an extendable stick with a tripod screw that was compatible with new, small cameras. Ueda even added a mirror to the front of the camera, so he would know exactly what would be in the frame.

“The philosophy behind it was that I didn’t need to rely on anyone else to take a photo – I could take a picture of myself whenever and wherever I liked,” Ueda went on to say about the original selfie stick. He even convinced Minolta to start selling them, but unfortunately, they were not a hit. That didn’t stop Ueda from continuing to use it, though. “Even 30 years ago, when the product stopped selling, I always, always carried a pocket camera and extender stick with me,” he told the BBC. “It’s like an extension of my arm. Whenever I want to extend it, I pull it out, and whenever I’m just walking around, I fold it up.”

The patent that Ueda had on his version of the selfie stick expired over a decade before the real selfie stick boom, but he’s not bitter about being ahead of his time. “My idea came too early, but that’s just one of those things. I patented about 300 ideas, so that was just one of them. We call it a 3am invention – it arrived too early.” And while I personally have never used a selfie stick, I have to admit, it was a genius creation.
