Thai Smile to be Re-Absorbed into Thai Airways International – Airways

DALLAS – Thai Airways International (TG) has announced that it will merge its low-cost unit Thai Smile (WE) back into the mainline company. The news comes as TG revealed its Q1 2023 profits, posting a total revenue of 41,507 million baht (US$1.2bn).

It forms part of the parent company’s restructuring process, and the merger is expected to be completed this year. TG’s creditors have approved the news and must now await approval from the country’s Civil Aviation Authority and transport minister.

The Bangkok-based carrier has been under a restructuring program after the COVID-19 pandemic, and strict restrictions across Asia saw its profits tumble. This has included restructuring its fleet, already disposing of 19 airframes with discussions moving ahead for the removal of a further 18.

Thai Smile History

Thai Smile commenced operations in July 2012 and is 99.99% owned by TG. The airline, which has its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC), boasts a fleet of 20 Airbus A320ceos. Despite Thai giving over its entire domestic network to WE, the subsidiary has struggled to return a profit for its parent after facing intense competition from low-cost rivals in the area that have much lower cost bases.

All 20 A320s will be transferred over to TG along with the airline’s staff. Its route network will also be absorbed back into the mainline carrier, allowing for greater coordination of short- and long-haul flights at its Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) hub and streamlining its operations.

Thai becomes the latest Asian carrier to retire its low-cost units. Cathay Pacific (CX) closed down its Cathay Dragon (KA) unit in October 2020. Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines (SQ) folded its low-cost arm, Silk Air (MI), into the company in May 2021.

An Orlando couple adopted Lupin, the kitten, when he was two months old. Lupin is a gorgeous house panther, a Bombay kitten with a shiny black nose, whiskers, and bright copper eyes. While Bombay cats originated in Kentucky, they resemble tiny domestic black panthers.

Very quickly, the kitten’s mom, Chrissy, discovered that he has “orange cat energy,” with constant amewsing antics. We know all about that!

A Kitten Thief of Hearts

Lupin’s name came from the Lupin TV series starring French actor Omar Sy, who plays a professional gentleman thief. Taking after his name, the kitten grew into a sometimes-sock thief. But he also quickly stole his mama’s heart and became her “Bombay bestie.” His daily shenanigans have also stolen thousands of hearts online.

At five months, the kitten became his mom’s constant companion and best friend. 

“I absolutely love this silly little guy! Although he’s only 5 months old, he has the biggest personality for a cat, ever. He’s my little pain in the behind best friend. 🖤”

An all-around animal lover, Chrissy found that “cats are the best type of pet ever.” At five months, Lupin was mostly sweet, but still a rambunctious kitten.

Daily Black Cat Shenanigans

At seven months old, he was constantly being hilarious, wanting to play anytime he saw Mom. He’s a wild child who loves to strike funny poses and give a “bombastic side eye.” Rather than a mini-panther, Chrissy says he’s more of a “crab-walking tiger,” arching his back comically.

Do cats do this to make their humans laugh? We think they do!

Other times, he’s like a parrot perched on her shoulder.

But Lupin’s superpower is crab-walking, a skill that has made thousands laugh online.

“Oh crap, there’s a door there!? 🫣🤭🤣 Lupin is just the goofiest cat ever. Not a day goes by where he’s not doing something hilarious. 🤣😂,” Chrissy shared.

Chrissy and her family are so happy with their kitty and know for sure that black cats are good luck. He brings daily joy and grew into such a handsome house panther.

The Purrfect Companion

As he grew, Lupin also evolved into quite the Parkour expert. Running through the home at top speed, he bounces off the walls. You never know what this comical cat will do next. And, unlike other pets, he doesn’t ever need to go outside, a purrk that Chrissy and many cat lovers appreciate!

Britney Spears On Matching Denim with Justin Timberlake: ‘I Thought It Was a Joke’

Britney Spears is reflecting on her all-denim look with Justin Timberlake.

In her new memoir The Woman in Me,per People, the singer admitted that she thinks the outfits she and then-boyfriend Timberlake wore to the 2001 American Music Awards were “tacky.”

Spears opened up about the outfits, where she said they were partially inspired by her Southern roots, where “moms love to round up the kids and say, ‘Listen, we’re going to church today, so we’re all going to color-coordinate.'”

“We should match! Let’s do denim-on-denim!” said Spears when she learned that Justin was going to be wearing a denim look to the AMAs, but noted that she wasn’t necessarily serious about her comment.

“At first, honestly, I thought it was a joke,” she said. “I didn’t think my stylist was going to do it, and I never thought Justin was going to do it with me. But they both went all in.”

“When he put it on, I thought, ‘Whoa! I guess we’re really doing this!'” recalled Spears of Timberlake’s Canadian tuxedo, assembled by his stylist Steven Gerstein.

This isn’t the first time the couple had coordinated their outfits, “but with the matching denim, we blew it up,” said Spears, who also shared that the outfit was less than comfortable.

“My corset had me sucked in so tight under my denim gown, I was about to fall over.”

Overall, Britney is fond of the look, despite some criticism it may have faced.

“I get that it was tacky — but it was also pretty great in its own way, and I’m also happy to see it parodied as a Halloween costume,” she shared.

“I’ve heard Justin get flak for the look,” she said. “On one podcast where they were teasing him about it, he said, ‘You do a lot of things when you’re young and in love.'”

“And that’s exactly right. We were giddy, and those outfits reflected that,” she concluded.

Jack Whitehall had Jimmy Bullard heading for the exit after a brutal joke during the final edition of Soccer AM.

The iconic Sky Sports programme – which has been running for almost 30 years – has been cancelled by the broadcaster with Saturday’s episode the last to be aired. Staff were informed back in March that the comedy talk show would be axed amid falling ratings and redundancies throughout the company.

Bullard and his fellow Soccer AM stars were said to be fuming by the cancellation, with the ex-Premier League star and John ‘Fenners’ Fendley forming a natural partnership. Whitehall was part of a star-studded group of guests for the last show, with Stormzy and Stephen Graham joining the stand-up comedian.

But hopes of a controversy-free morning were quickly ended by Whitehall, who had the studio in stitches with some close-to-the-knuckle jokes. One gag even had Bullard walking off screen, after Whitehall suggested he would be happy to take disgraced former entertainer Rolf Harris’ royal honours.

“I’m offski!” Bullard shouted as he walked out of shot. “Oh, come on Jimmy! It’s the last show!” Whitehall quickly replied.

He then attempted to tell a joke about Sky’s head honcho Rupert Murdoch, before his microphone was conveniently muted. Fenners also had to warn the guests to “watch the expletives” during a chaotic opening.

The Arsenal fan only appeared for the first segment of the show, where he also discussed the Gunners’ unsuccessful title bid.

There were plenty of callbacks during the final 90 minutes, including clips from the show’s heyday when it was hosted by Tim Lovejoy and Helen Chamberlain. Fendley honestly admitted that the show lost its way a touch after Chamberlain’s exit in 2017, but felt he and Bullard had found a new groove.

He told the Athletic in 2020: “I get frustrated with people who say it’s not what it used to be, because we’re getting to a stage where I really feel we’ve hit upon something that would make it different,” he said. “It gave us a new dimension.

“I think we’ve won a lot of the public over, from the noises that I hear, and I think we’ve won a lot of people within football back as well. I always felt that if we could get the right formula for the show, people would feel like that. I do feel that we’re getting close to it being a very, very good TV show again.”

Soccer AM is due to be replaced in the running order by Saturday Social with a Sky spokesperson saying: “Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.

“We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people. We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway.”

The conclusion of the long-running weekly show starts a weekend of major change at the broadcaster, with Jeff Stelling also stepping down from Soccer Saturday. Stelling has anchored the show, which used to run on from Soccer AM for almost 30 years but is leaving at the end of the Premier League season.
