Kylie Minogue did it again.

The Australian pop princess is onto another viral sensation with her latest single Tension following the success of her comeback track, Padam Padam, on TikTok.

Fans have flooded social media with memes and hilarious edits of the edgy dance track since its release earlier this month.

A popular trend has been to edit the track over clips from movies and TV shows, including The Simpsons, The Real Housewives franchise, Tomb Raider, and Child’s Play.

TikTok is also filling up with Tension videos as fans rush to do the song’s catchy choreography.

The unexpected success of Padam Padam was largely down to TikTok, where the tune became a popular meme and exposed the 55-year-old singer to a brand new audience of younger fans.

It comes after Tension debuted at No. 19 on the UK singles chart.

This makes the track Kylie’s 53rd top forty hit in the UK, where she is the only female artist to score a No. 1 album in five consecutive decades.

It also entered the Australian charts at No. 46 this week, becoming the first time that Kylie’s had two top fifty singles in Australia in one year since 2008.

Her last single, Padam Padam, peaked at No. 8 in the UK and No. 19 in Australia.

Meanwhile, Padam Padam is still making gains in the US, which has been a notoriously difficult market for the Aussie pop star to crack.

The song just climbed to No. 30 on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart, becoming her highest-peaking radio single in the US since 2004’s Slow.

It comes after Padam Padam songwriter Lostboy, aka Pete Rycroft, branded British radio ‘ageist’ and claims the megahit could have been bigger.

Pete, who wrote the song alongside Norwegian hitmaker Ina Wroldsen, took aim at Radio 1 and Capital for not adding the song to their playlists until fans called them out.

‘We were trying to get it played on the radio,’ he told The Independent.

‘It was everywhere, everyone was talking about it and it was at least top two in the charts – but Radio 1 and Capital were refusing to play it, essentially because she’s [Kylie’s] an older woman.’

Rycroft went on to call out the apparent sexism, adding David Guetta is often added, and the pair are the same age.

‘I could see it as clear as day; it was definitely a wake-up call,’ he said.

‘There are other 55-year-old artists, David Guetta for example, and he’s all over the radio obviously, because he’s a bloke and he’s got some amazing tunes.

‘Padam’ should have been on there from the beginning and it’s just a reflection on Radio 1.’
