Liverpool fans mock Chelsea on social media after Reds hijack deal to sign Moises Caicedo for £111m… and claim Brighton star’s move is ‘hilarious on so many levels’ | Daily Mail Online

Liverpool fans have brutally mocked Chelsea fans after the Reds hijacked their deal to sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea were favourites for the Ecuadorian’s signature before the Reds stunningly hijacked the move in an effort to improve their own midfield reserves. However reports suggest Caicedo is having second thoughts over a possible move to Anfield.

Mail Sport revealed on Friday that Jurgen Klopp’s side had agreed a £111m fee for the midfielder and it’s led to Reds fans poking fun at the expense of their rivals.

‘This is hilarious on so many levels. Us, a team that is scared to get their wallet out, outbidding Chelsea, a team that will spend £100m on a paraplegic as long as he’s under 18… all because they tried to hijack our target. S***housery from FSG and I’m all for it’, one fan wrote on reddit.

Following years of criticism aimed at Liverpool’s owners for not spending big, the reverse seems to be happening during the current off-season, with Dominik Szoboszlai signed from RB Leipzig for £60m, and Alexis Mac Allister acquired from Brighton for £35m.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea had been frontrunners to sign Caicedo before Liverpool’s move

‘OH MY GOD!!!!! Caicedo IS A RED!!!!! AM I DREAMIN’??? I AM MADE UP, WHAT A PLAYER WE HAVE GOT!!!! BETTER THAN RICE, HE’S BASICALLY KANTE BUT MORE CREATIVE AN CAN SCORE GOALS!!! WHAT A DAY!!! #FSG HAD TO GO ALL OUT FOR US @LFC FANS AN THEY HAVE!!!!! F####N GET IN!!’, one fan wrote on Twitter.

Another used said: ‘Let’s be clear, £110m is 100% overpaying for a lad with only one full season in the Prem. I also 100% don’t give a f***. It’s not my money and it just feels nice to be able to do this’.

‘Good Morning Reds. Wow! £110m Moises Caicedo Incredible. But he’s perfect for what we need,’ one Twitter used wrote.

‘What a f****** signing this is, a midfield 3 of Mac Allister – Caicedo – Szoboszlai is incredible #LFC,’ added another.

And fans aren’t the only ones chiming in with comments on the deal, but so are some of Liverpool’s former stars.

Ex-defender Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are ‘desperate’ after agreeing a £110m deal with Brighton but insists the move is ‘great business’ by his former club.

Fans were quick to poke fun at Chelsea getting hijacked via posts onto social media

The 45-year-old posted on Twitter: ‘110M is a big price for Caicedo but Liverpool had to pay big as clubs knew they were desperate.

‘But signing two top young players for 145M & selling two of your older players for 52M is great business!’

The former Liverpool defender was previously frustrated at his past club’s lack of transfer activity that has so far seen their midfield rebuild lacking in numbers before news of Caicedo began to emerge.

All signs posted towards Caicedo joining Chelsea before Liverpool’s late intervention ensured the 21-year-old talent would be swapping Brighton for the north west in a huge blow to Mauricio Pochettino.
