The injured GASGAS Tech3 star has posted a positive update on his condition as he looks forward to returning as soon as possible
It’s a message that will be music to the ears of millions of MotoGP™ fans around the world. Pol Espargaro (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) has taken to social media to give everyone an update on where he is in his recovery after his huge Portuguese Grand Prix crash.
Espargaro has been sidelined since the Friday afternoon crash in Portimao. A broken jaw has meant the #44 rider has been unable to speak or eat properly for over a month, while several other fractures are now also thankfully on the mend.
“Hi everyone! Finally I’m back on social media. It’s been a month and week after the crash and I can talk a little bit, I’m saying that because I broke my jaw in two places, I’ve been with my jaw completely closed for four weeks after the crash, I couldn’t eat, I lost a lot of weight, but finally I can smile and I can talk quite good so that’s why I making this message,” began the Spaniard.
“Also I had an injury in my ear that had surgery after the crash, I had eight fractures in my body, two in my ribs, one in my neck, three in my back which I think are taking a little bit longer because the fractures in my back are the ones the doctors are still checking a little bit deeply. One is better but I’ve lost half of the size.
“So you know what happens when you play with these kind of injuries, in the vertebrae you need to be really careful because it’s super easy to injure your spinal cord, so we are working with the doctors hand by hand to come back as soon as possible, but first of all I need to come back healthy, but I’m the first one that wants to jump on the bike. Especially after the results in Jerez, the factory is working huge and the bike is a rocket right now so I’m looking forward to it.
“I just wanted to say thank you for all the messages you have sent me through that time, it has been so important to keep me motivated, and to keep me happy to come back as soon as possible and jump on my bike. Thanks to my team and all the people who are with me when I am racing because they have sent me messages almost every day and this is amazing from the GASGAS and the KTM guys.
“I don’t know when I’ll jump back on the bike honestly, I’m just going to keep you a little bit more updated than the last month and a half so yeah, thanks for all the messages, I love you so much.”
It’s fantastic to see Espargaro smiling and to hear how excited he is to return to action. We can’t wait to see him back racing!

Ryan Reynolds has been in the headlines for antics surrounding his football club rather than his acting career over the past week, with Wrexham winning a thrilling and crucial top-of-the-table battle on Monday thanks to a late Ben Foster penalty save.
The Canadian and his American co-owner Rob McElhenney took in the crazy scenes and expressed surprise at the “insane” rules which only see one side promoted from the National League into the football league system – though that now looks set to be the Red Dragons, with that victory over Notts County leaving them three points clear with a game in hand and only four matches remaining.
Come the end of the week, though, Reynolds had other off-pitch matters on his mind: McElhenney’s birthday on 14 April and a special video tribute…sort of.
While they may share a football club, it doesn’t stop the pair playing jokes on each other at every opportunity and Reynolds took his friend’s celebrations as an opportunity to educate listeners on exactly how to pronounce “McElhenney”.
Not content with being in the birthday video himself, Reynolds also enlisted a number of actors, Wrexham fans, locals and even club staff to also appear in the video – including a particularly gruff sign-off from one.
Settings such as the club stadium – the Racecourse Ground – and noted local bar The Turf appear in the video, the latter being the site of a recent singalong for supporters which the owners turned up to after the win over Notts County.
The cheeky lyrics see Reynolds noting that “all those Ns and Es and Hs can perplex ‘em” for people trying to pronounce Rob McElhenney’s surname, so his thoughtful friend created a handy guide to doing so “from all your mates in Wrexham”.
Finishing up with a “2-1” score update in the joking stakes between the pair and posting the clip to Twitter, Reynolds also encouraged Wrexham fans to take up the chant on matchdays just to get in on the act against McElhenney. If they go on to earn promotion and return to League Two, supporters will doubtless be singing plenty more than just a birthday song in praise of their owners.

Last month an internet troll attempted to body-shame Lizzo via Twitter, as a nude picture the singer shared to Instagram in 2021 resurfaced.
The Juice hitmaker shared the post, which is an unedited picture without any clothing, as part of a self-esteem social media campaign.
But as it did the rounds across Twitter again, one fan tweeted a picture of herself beside Lizzo’s, attempting to shame her by asking ‘me or Lizzo?’

Appearing to backfire, many fans rallied to support the singer as they simply responded with her name instead of the troll’s.
And it seemed that Lizzo herself was keen to cast her vote, simply tweeting her own name at the same time that the drama was unfolding.
The picture began to circulate on Twitter again after two years as one user share a snap of an article which said Lizzo was ‘changing the beauty standard’, writing above: ‘Thanks, , but my beauty standards remain unchanged’.
This response spurred on many other trolls to also take a dig at the singer, who has proudly spoken about being plus size.

In a backfire, many took to the reply section to show their support for Lizzo, with one replying: ‘Lizzo any day,’ as another added on: ‘Any and EVERY day’.
‘Lizzo. Gal has talents,’ added a third.
And in a tweet appearing too well-timed to be a coincidence, the hitmaker herself tweeted ‘Lizzo’.
Hilariously, this prompted a slew of brands to tweet their own names out – including the official page for Kikkoman USA, who wrote: ‘Soy Sauce’.
