Newcastle furious after Liverpool net injury time winner and call the end of the match a joke | Daily Mail Online
Newcastle are left FURIOUS as Liverpool net a 98th-minute winner despite only FIVE minutes of added time being added at Anfield, with Magpies co-owner Mehrdad Ghodussi taking to Twitter to brand their last-gasp defeat a ‘joke’
Newcastle were left furious after they were denied a point at Anfield in the most dramatic fashion with co-owner Mehrdad Ghodussi branding the finale “a joke”.
Fabio Carvalho’s winning goal for Liverpool came in the 98th minute – three minutes after the game should have concluded – and it led to a furious scene on the touchline with coaches from both benches needing to be separated.
Television footage on BT Sport showed an object being thrown from the direction of the Newcastle bench towards Liverpool’s staff but neither Eddie Howe nor Jurgen Klopp saw anything that they could comment on.
Emotions spilled over at the end of the game following Liverpool’s late win over Newcastle
Howe insisted Newcastle had not deliberately turned to gamesmanship to break the flow of the contest and said all stoppages were legitimate as his players were running on empty and he diplomatically tried to tread a careful line.
But Ghodussi took to Twitter and said: ‘So proud of that team, they left everything on the pitch and deserved a point. Absolute joke to end that way.’
Howe added: ‘I would need someone else to guide me (why there was so much added time). As I am sat here I had no idea. It seemed the final whistle would never come but we needed to defend the final situation better than we did. It is a cruel game.
‘Compared to the game at Anfield last year, we were in it more. We didn’t intend to drop deep, we didn’t until the latter minutes. We defended well. You have to take into account that we had a day’s less preparation. Our players emptied their tank.’
Jurgen Klopp celebrates Liverpool’s 98th minute winner in their 2-1 win over Newcastle

Klopp, on the other hand, was exultant and he gave six fist pumps to The Kop amid the hullabaloo, recognising that the manner this victory was achieved was more important than the nine goals they rattled past Bournemouth last Saturday.
‘The game was just interrupted constantly for some reason and there was no chance to gain any momentum,’ said Klopp. ‘In the end I was very happy when we got that last corner and what Mo and Fabio made of it was absolutely outstanding. A Perfect moment.’
It was not all positive, however, for Klopp. Captain Jordan Henderson was substituted with a hamstring injury that could mean a lengthy lay-off. He will undergo a scan today and Klopp said he will remain on the lookout to sign a midfielder up until the deadline.

Family Forgot Old Dog On Christmas Card And Got Hilarious Replies
It was almost a very pugly Christmas for one Massachusetts family.
Tina Haupert designed the family’s 2022 Christmas card and sent them out to friends and family the first week of December.
The Haupert holiday card featured Tina, her husband Mal, their son, Quinn, and the family’s new lizard, Scales.
“This year, my son got a lizard so that was kind of the new family member,” Haupert tells TODAY.com.
But when friends and family received the Haupert’s holiday greeting card, they immediately noticed a very important family member was absent: Murphy, the family’s 13-year-old pug dog.
“He’s 13, so he has been on the Christmas card every year,” Haupert says, adding that friends and family are used to seeing his face. ” I don’t even know how it happened, I was just focused on the lizard because he was the new family.”
Concerned family and friends started messaging Haupert.
“No Murphy?” one asked.
Another texted, “I can’t believe SCALES made the holiday card and NOT Murphy.”
One friend couldn’t believe what they were seeing and demanded to know who was responsible for the card.
Others worried the poor elderly pug had died.
“Pug okay?” one asked.
Another inquired, “What happened to Murphy?”
Haupert and her husband knew they had to make it right.
“We love Murphy, and our family and friends know how much we love him,” she says, adding that Murphy is an honorary guest at nearly every event and many friends have babysat him on various occasions.
She tells TODAY.com the family printed new cards and mailed them out the next day.
“I’M STILL HERE” the card reads, with a zoomed-in photo of Murphy’s face. “Happy Holidays! Love, Murphy”
On the back of the card, a personal message from Murphy reiterates that his humans forget him on the annual card and “I assure you I am alive and well.”
“The text messages after people got Murphy’s card were so funny,” Haupert says. “People were rolling.”
A TikTok video Haupert created of the debacle has racked up over 700,000 views and more than 800 comments. The same video has reached nearly 15,000 views on Instagram.
“Honestly it was just us being our goofy selves,” Haupert says. “We just love the dog.”
