Emotional Luis Diaz tears up after “joke” performance in Liverpool’s epic comeback – Mirror Online

May 6, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Luis Diaz was Liverpool’s gamechanger as the Reds survived a first-half onslaught to reach the Champions League final.

And the Colombian was reduced to tears in the post-match celebrations.

Holding a 2-0 lead from the Anfield first leg, the Reds were stunned by a vibrant performance from Unai Emery’s side in the first half in Spain, where the La Liga side shocked their visitors within three minutes when Boulaye Dia fired home amid defensive disarray.

Liverpool simply couldn’t get going in the match, and former Arsenal man Francis Coquelin added a second to completely cancel out the first leg lead shortly before half-time.

Jurgen Klopp’s response was to send on Diaz at half-time to replace Diogo Jota, and the game turned as the former Porto man linked up with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane impressively in attack.

Fabinho drove a shot through home goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to pull one back, before Diaz nodded home a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross to level matters on the night.

Sadio Mane would later add a third to wrap up a 3-2 victory on the night for the Reds.

Liverpool’s players celebrated their victory with a sense of relief after the match, and cameras caught Diaz seemingly tearing up as he reacted to reaching his first Champions League final.

On BT Sport’s coverage, presenter Jake Humphrey labelled Diaz’s display “a joke”, with pundit Peter Crouch adding: “He changed the game, he was fantastic. The moment he came on, he was getting at players. A complete game changer.”

Reds full-back Alexander-Arnold reflected on the win, saying: “We never tend to make these Champions League semis easy for ourselves, no matter if we’re home or away, Barca and now here. It’s difficult, very difficult.

“Obviously we came here, they played very well in that first half, we regrouped at half time and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and done what we needed to do.

“It was difficult for us first half, we expected it but sometimes you can’t control the game how you want to. They started well, scored early doors which we didn’t want, but we got the game done and booked our ticket to Paris.”

On Liverpool’s half-time team talk, he added: “We just needed to play how we wanted to play. We didn’t play football in that first half, never picked up any of the first or second balls at all, then they played how they wanted to and we allowed that.

“It was difficult, second half we played how we needed to, controlled the game a lot better and one bad half over the two legs, we can concede that as long as we got the job done and that’s what we did today.”

Leeds cult hero Eddie Lewis backs ‘crazy’ Marcelo Bielsa to ensure Premier League safety – Mirror Online

May 5, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Leeds United’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday is the start of a pretty daunting run of December fixtures.

After facing the champions of Europe, they will then face Premier League holders Man City as well as Arsenal and Liverpool before the month is out.

Whilst that run may invoke fear into some supporters, these are just the kind of games Leeds ‘ loyal fanbase has been patiently waiting for after years in the wilderness. Last season they had to watch their side’s first taste of the top flight in 16 years through TV screens.

This term they get to drink in the atmosphere of their team against the big dogs of English football.

Eddie Lewis was one of the players who ultimately fell short of restoring the West Yorkshire club’s status in years gone by.

Where will Leeds finish in the table this season? Let us know in the comments section

He was only at Elland Road for two years but those couple of seasons could not have been more contrasting.

His first campaign saw them reach the Championship play-off final only to lose out to Watford at Wembley in the showpiece.

The following season was a disaster, with United handed a ten-point deduction for entering administration. In the end that docking was irrelevant as the club finished rock-bottom and 13 adrift of safety.

For Lewis, it was a sour way to end his spell at a club where he is fondly remembered.

That fondness is reciprocated and watching from afar, Lewis believes that a slight tactical tweak by Marcelo Bielsa will ensure that ‘second season syndrome’ does not affect his former club.

Speaking to the Mirror , Lewis said: “Honestly, it’s nice to see them where they probably belong. That’s what we were trying to do when I was there.

“Obviously we came a game short in one of the years (play-offs).

“But honestly I’m super-excited. I still keep in touch with a few people from back in the Leeds area.

“I was a little nervous for them at the beginning of this season because they had a little bit of a rocky start. But hopefully they’ve settled in now.

“I hope they stay in the Premier League for many years to come. I do think they need to continue to evolve that a little bit to where they can change the tempo.

“And I think we are starting to see that now a bit more with them.”

When quizzed if he would have enjoyed working under Marcelo Bielsa, the American afforded himself a wry smile.

“I think so!” he quipped.

“I really think players enjoy the high-pressing everywhere and it’s a really high energy strategy.

“I think as crazy as Bielsa can be sometimes, you get the sense players really enjoy playing for him.

“That says a lot about him.”

Lewis was speaking to promote his new venture TOCA Social – the world’s first interactive football and dining experience based at the O2 in Greenwich.

It combines immersive football-based challenges with world class food and drink.

Premier League stars such as West Ham’s Michail Antonio and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah are just some of the players to have experienced TOCA.

Lewis added: “This is the chance to hit a volley or take a great first touch surrounded by your friends while you’re having a couple of great cocktails.

“For most people, once you’re done playing and are not able to play five-a-side for instance, this experience allows them to recreate those moments. It’s also a way for someone to experience that joy for the first time.”

Amy Schumer: Oscars Rejected Alec Baldwin Rust Shooting Joke – Variety

May 5, 2022 by humorouz Leave a Comment

Amy Schumer performed a stand-up comedy set at Las Vegas’ Mirage Theater on April 2, where she continued to discuss Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards. Schumer co-hosted the ceremony alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall. The comedian wrote on social media following the Oscars that she was “still triggered and traumatized” by Smith’s slap. Schumer referred to Smith as “Ali” during her April 2 comedy set, a reference to Smith’s performance as boxer Muhammed Ali.

“I was kind of feeling myself…and then all of a sudden Ali was making his way up,” Schumer said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “And it was just a fucking bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity. It was really upsetting, but I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV.”

Schumer then ran down some of the jokes that proved too controversial for the Oscars telecast, including bits about Joe Rogan and James Franco. One joke found Schumer addressing Alec Baldwin and the fatal shooting on the set of “Rust.” Schumer told the crowd ahead of the jokes, “I want to preface these Oscar jokes by saying that my lawyer said not to say these. Don’t tell anybody and don’t get mad at me.”

“’Don’t Look Up’ is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun,” Schumer said. “I wasn’t allowed to say any of that [at the Oscars], but you can just come up and [slap] someone.”

Schumer did manage to get “Don’t Look Up” into her Oscars monologue when she joked, “‘Don’t Look Up’ is nominated. I guess the Academy members don’t look up reviews!” Writing in a March 30 social post about Smith’s slap, Schumer called the incident “disturbing.”

“So much pain in Will Smith,” Schumer added. “Anyway, I’m still in shock and stunned and sad. I’m proud of myself and my cohosts. But yeah. Waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed.”
